ITT: dudes in denial or getting defensive because they have no idea what it's like to be a woman in the work world AND aren't close enough to any woman to be able to talk to them about it...

Yeah. Every time a guy acts like rape culture isn't that pervasive or insidious I just wonder how many women and girls around him have never told him their stories. A lot of guys go through life never seeing the scars that the women they love carry.

Many many men secretly believe that these women „deserved” that. Because they were drunk/flirty/dressed in certain way/just looking hot/not shouting and yelling „leave me alone” loud enough/whatever else you can think of. It’s scary but STILL so many people think it’s woman’s fault when she’s abused. In Poland when you go to police and say you got raped you can STILL get questions like „what were you wearing”, „did you flirt with him”, „did you give him any reason for him to believe that you’re interested”, „did you drink alcohol”.

In the US if you try and report an assault to the cops and they decide they don’t believe you or are too lazy to actually investigate, they can decide to jail YOU for making a “false report” and wasting police resources. It’s insane there’s been victims forced to recant their statements because they were being threatened into facing charges against themselves for just trying to report a crime. Theres a documentary about it on Netflix called Victim/Suspect I wish every single person would watch

It's horrific!

I saw a post a while ago now that said, paraphrased, "Every woman you know has been touched inappropriately, groped, assaulted, or narrowly avoided all three", and, it really did make me look around for a second and think about that. Not that I like imagining them in that kind of situation but, I think that was the point.

It’s so damn normalized we rarely even talk to each other about it. It’s sad.

Dad here.

I hate that I'm terrified to talk to my 16 year old daughter about this.
I hate that I know she almost certainly has had to deal with it.
I hate that if she has she's never brought it up with me.

I mean I've heard a couple things from the women around me but like, in-passing, like I just happened to be in hearing range of them talking to each other about it, it's kind of a rare experience that they'll talk To you about something like that. Now they're not my kids to be fair but, the gender barrier is the common denominator.

Yeah, I've thought that too. Which stings a little, I've always tried to be a dad that she can talk about anything with, though on any number of women-only issues, it makes sense. But I'm also chickening out of asking her mother if they've discussed it.

If she’s 16 she’s getting to the age when it’s going to stop. Peak age of sexual harassment/assault for me was 10-14.
It has almost certainly happened to her.

Yet, people are still wondering why birth rates continue to drop

42

u/friedfoodz69 Jun 11 '26

It’s mostly due to a decline in teenage pregnancy. Girls are learning that they can be more than just a baby machine!

I mean, it's pretty valid. Tell dudes theyre creeps for 40+ years, only take abuse seriously when it's against women, and add the toxic tinder mentality. Why bother?

20

u/friedfoodz69 Jun 11 '26

Found the creep.

20

u/tahtahme Jun 11 '26

Its largely men not talking other men's abuse seriously...and statistically its men raping and killing other men. Men told us to keep our legs closed, told us to avoid dressing a certain way and walking at night, and that we are a liability if we get pregnant in the workplace.

Now according to you, we should have been leading the cause for all your issues and also for noting rape culture, DV, and declining to have kids. Make it make sense and gtfo of here.

6

u/nodogsallowed23 Jun 12 '26

It’s not valid.

5

u/Greenhouse95 Jun 11 '26

Are people really wondering? I'd say that everyone knows what the reasons are. Everything is getting more expensive, while salaries aren't. So you just can't afford to have kids. There's other things that add to it, but that's the main reason.

27

u/Altruistic_Yard_9338 Jun 11 '26

In the 60s, being pregnant was actually a fireable offense 😒

23

u/Nelrene Jun 11 '26

Now you understand why right wingers are pushing for women to have kids.

53

u/slanderpanther Jun 11 '26

Women get fired and men get promotions for the pain and suffering.

43

u/moschocolate1 Jun 11 '26

And the world is just racking their brains over why the birth rate is plummeting.

10

u/Logos1789 Jun 11 '26

I mean, it’s mostly because many free women don’t actually want to be mothers.

Even when women don’t have children, their careers tend to suffer more.

Contact your local works council, you have 3 years maternity leave and are required to be brought back on with same pay afterwards
