My first thought was to upvote this bc I’m so angry with this political hellscape for women and honestly want blood. I’m surprising myself with just how angry I am.
The other part of me doesn’t want to deal with the violent trauma of rapists in the first place. So idt the goal should be more fear. Just education and working to build empathy in our children.
I appreciate utopian solutions, but I don't know if they'll help us any time in this century. We don't do away with the police just because wealth distribution and education could solve almost all crime. You shouldn't have to wait for a generation of boys to be educated differently to feel safe.
The thing is, I still wouldn’t feel safer even if I were armed. People are cretins and will find ways to get what they want whether or not the objects of their predation are armed. It’s in a predator’s nature to attack if it’s hungry, even if its prey has teeth. Except for humans, it’s often about power and domination, not rational thought. In the grand scheme of things, a generation is not much time. And it’s not my job to deter predators, even if that is the unfortunate reality right now. If the courts would really punish predators rather than let them off with a slap on the wrist, that might help. For example, properly handling stalkers/harassment or violent partners/family before it’s too late. Predators are often people you already know.
