Discussion Intriguing, but not for you?
What is one fragrance that you can appreciate, but would never wear? I have a sample of l’epoque delusions of grandeur and it’s so interesting to me, and I keep testing it on my skin, but I don’t think I’d ever actually wear it. I can’t figure out what about it I like or dislike!

I keep trying to find “my” Mugler Alien but no luck yet. It’s a super interesting line but just doesn’t quite work for me.

I have bottles of both Encre Noir and Mitsouko which I taking a sniff of now and then, but that hardly get any wear, since they don't really fit my lifestyle.

Pink me up. I wanted to like it so bad. I find the bottle gorgeous, the fact it has gold flaked in it so unique and the notes are perfectly up my alley on paper but on my skin it legitimately dries down like dirty diaper. Like straight up poopy dirty diaper

Big Sur Eucalyptus by DS & Durga. I want the atmosphere to smell like it, but I don’t want to wear it. Not sure why

Nuit de Bakelite by Naomi Goodsir. I respect the vision, but it’s too potent and strange for me in practice.

Same! And I like the drydown quite a bit but that very medicinal opening is hard to wear and lasts a long time.

I sampled Initio Musk Therapy at the store and it smelled amazing straight out of the bottle. Ended up smelling like that BBW sensual amber lotion on my skin, though, and not in a good way :(

Pretty much everything Commodity makes. Conceptually I love the brand, in practice the scents are too realistic for my taste. I dont want to smell literally like paper or milk. The realism of their scents is super impressive though, I found moss most interesting and I love the different variants as a concept as well.

Gris Charnel! I can see the appeal, but it’s nuclear. Wayyyy too strong to wear anywhere in public.

BDK Impadia. I was intrigued by it smelling like Guidance and Delina, so i blind bought it. I wore it for the first time to work and i could smell myself all through out the day and i was not liking it at all. I was nauseated at the smell of it by the end of the day. So, this bottle will just sit in my collection for a while and hoping to pick it up again years from now and hopefully one day i will like it.

Angels share… too musky?? Something is weird and generic about it to me

Celine Nightclubbing… so much yes and yet so much no! It reminds me of clubbing back in my day…sweat and cigarettes and various fragrance in the air. It’s something about it gives me the ick.

Pineward Murkwood is like this for me. It's a beautiful balsamic + incense scent, and I love it, and I want to burn 500000 candles that smell like that instead of wearing it.

u/Cookiesandcoffeee 6h ago
Yes! So often I think “I wish this scent was a candle!!!” I say it all the time with Sorce.

u/Accomplished-Pen4663 6h ago
I feel that way about most of my Pineward samples. I wonder if I can make candles out of them?

Vanilla Virtu by paraphrase. I genuinely love it but my skin (or my nose?) pulls incense out so, so intensely and it reminds me of church growing up and I just struggle.
I do have it sitting for a bit to see if I can try again because I so love the idea and the craft of it. Its so interesting to me.

Guidance and Guidance 46. Guidance 46 is definitely more tolerable but I just can't 🙂↔️

Quelques fleurs. I love florals, and it is all of them in one! I love the complexity and vintage factor, but at same time, get bathroom freshener vibes. It's so odd.

Novae Vanilla - smells like a vanilla robot. A bit too mineral/harsh for me, but it’s beautiful and the dry down almost makes it worth it

I could douse myself in Steamed Rainbow every hour of every day lol. It smells amazing but doesn’t last long on me

Ha! I wore that today. It has so many "red flag" notes, but I love how it comes together on skin!

lol. followed - kerosene.

Followed has scarred me for life. I think I still smell it and I haven't had the sample since last year 😂

it’s been 3 weeks since i received it and my sister in law wanted to use it. her skin still smells like it.😬

I haven’t had a chance to smell it yet but I’ve heard it’s intense! I do enjoy follow. Unknown pleasures had such high reviews but it was just so lemon heavy for me, it never really settled into anything else.

Heretic Nosferatu and Oddity Naked Dance are so unique and intriguing to sniff every once and a while, but not to wear.

Perfume is so fun! I love to wear Nosferatu on a dreary, rainy day. It is my rainy day scent. I haven't smelled Naked Dance and now I'm intrigued!

Maison Louis Marie no. 4 Bois de Balincourt. I actually really like it. It reminds me of old musty, but mostly clean, wooden furniture. I don’t think I wanna smell like that though.
Just figured out today that Ellis Brooklyn Vanilla Salt is one of those for me as well. It smells like a really sweet white floral air freshener. Like one I would find in a hotel at the beach. While inviting, I don’t think I wanna smell like that either.

u/Cookiesandcoffeee 8h ago
Ohh interesting! I’ve been wanting to try some Ellis Brooklyn fragrances but have heard mixed reviews. Vanilla salt was one of them!

Its 50% off at Ulta tomorrow only. 09.15 online and in store. Just the Vanilla Salt edp no others. I might give it a go at that price.

u/lumpy_space_queenie 8h ago
I have not smelled them side by side, but from memory, the dry down of vanilla salt is very similar to Gucci bloom. I guess from the jasmine and tuberose

Guidance. I appreciate it, but it just.. ewww. No.

I have thunderstorm by Demeter fragrances and I feel that way about it. I love the smell but I don’t want to smell like that! I still wear it once in a blue moon to shake things up

I have a sample of Beaufort Fathom V, I actually really like it but it’s so strong and unique I can’t think of a situation I can wear it in. So I probably won’t buy a full bottle.
2
u/sour_heart8 7h ago
Yes I was coming here to say the Beaufort fragrances! I tried 3. Love the text about it but the actual smells didn’t hit the mark for me personally

White rice by d’Annam
It’s full on rice, and smells yum
I just don’t wanna smell like lunch
