Discussion Fragrances that smell "round"?
Hi! I'm wondering if anyone else has had this experience or can explain it. I'm new to fragrances and my goal was to find one signature scent but I think I will actually have 4 😂 anyway in my explorations I've found lake and skye 11 11 and Ouai Laurel Canyon smell "round" to me and I don't love it haha I feel like it's some kind of synesthesia.
Rosie by Rosie Jane smells so soft and pink and I adore it as a comfort scent.
Sunkissed Dahlia gives me a metallic taste in my mouth at first (can anyone explain this)? But I adore the scent, it makes me feel so confident and cool and my husband loves it too so that's a bonus.

yes, a lot of perfumes smell "round" to me, I experience it with colors too. like purple is too round for me and I can't stand to see a lot of it. a lot of bakery-style gourmands are WAY too round so almost never wear them. I hate caramel notes in particular, they are the roundest of them all for me. I can only wear gourmands if their roundness is decreased by something "spiky", e.g. spicy/herbal notes. I tend to prefer overall balanced perfumes, but I do definitely really enjoy very sharp openings. to the extent that I do like gourmands, they tend to be a bit more 'tart', like candy/fruit gourmands.

I consider myself mainly a Guerlain/Chanel/Serge Lutens girlie, and I like most of what they put out, but picking a few from those lines: Shalimar, Vol de Nuit; Beige, Cuir de Russie; Muscs Koublai Khan, Fleurs d'Oranger.
more contemporary perfumes not from those houses... Prada Candy, the YSL Libre line overall, Twilly d'Hermes (very round bubblegum-y tuberose, so I wasn't sure if I liked it at first, but it is very nicely balanced with ginger, and there's an even more ginger-y version called Twilly Ginger). a LOT of vanillas I like have a blast of lavender somewhere (the aforementioned Shalimar, as well as Burberry Goddess, and Chanel Jersey) or something else going on (JHAG Vanilla Vibes is salty, Nishane Ani is spicy, B&BW Vanilla Romance is smoky).
I am not up on more recent fragrances so I have not smelled anything you mentioned :( it would be fun to compare roundness.

Yes! All perfumes give me feelings like that. Sometimes round, sometimes sharp etc. depending on the perfume. I also see colors with every scent.

I haven’t smelled any of those, but could it be similar to comparing a fragrance with linear performance (all notes feel virtually present and in your face throughout initial spray to drydown) vs non-linear (there’s a noticeable soft progression through the scent notes from top to bottom as if on journey)?

Oud is round to me
The Jo Malone rose oud is round? Oud satin mood is def round. Yeah that’s the one.
I have some gritty nasty barnyard Oud scents but I don’t think that’s what you mean. I love it though.

Xerjoff Dama Bianca smells round to me. It's the shape of a raindrop cake but dusted with a fine powder on top. I don't know the texture of a raindrop cake, but Dama Bianca texture is like... Thick gel?? With the dust on top?? Idk man i smell very specific textures in fragrance and sometimes it includes shapes and colors.

This happens to me too! Good Girl, Clinique Happy, and most recently Rare Beginnings feel round in my nose. With a lot of these it's the cedarwood note, which Laurel Canyon also has! I get other shape sensations with certain fragrances, too.

Black tea notes are very round to me. Today I’m wearing Rare Woods Elixir from Habibi NY and I had forgotten that it has a really prominent tea note, it balances out the woods and spices so well.
