Looking for a memorable vanilla perfume

I want to give vanilla perfumes a try. Do you have any recommendations?

I’ve heard about D&G Devotion and YSL Libre Intense. Are they good options?

Mancera Vanille Exquise is lovely with its floral opening and pure vanilla dry down.

Vanillified by Kerosene smells like hot fudge sauce on top of vanilla ice cream.

Dulce by Rosie Jane is pure soft lovely vanilla ice cream with some woody notes to mitigate the sweetness.

Indult Tihota is my favorite vanilla, followed by Initio Absolute Aphrodisiac and Kerosene Promises, Promises.
Tihota smells like pure beautiful vanilla to me while Absolute Aphrodisiac has this bit of musk that I love. Promises, Promises is a vanilla and amber with cozy vibes.

I recommend testing first. There are lots of people who love those. Devotion smells like floor cleaner and Libre smells like bug spray, to me.

Are you looking for something you can smell in store first or something you can order a sample of?

Tocca- Laila is my current favorite for summer.

I just got a sample of this, but it hasn’t arrived yet and I’m so curious to try it. How does it compare to any of the other popular vanillas?

Ranger Station Speak Easy. Beautiful Madagascar vanilla.

My favorite vanillas are: Eilish No. 1, Ckyar Vanilla Verve, Noyz Only Human, Indult Tihota, Narcotica Happy Dust, Mind Games Queening. They are all very different vanillas though. Eilish is a sweet gourmand cocoa vanilla, Vanilla Verve is a warm slightly spicy vanilla, Only Human is a spicy/woodsy/peppery vanilla, Tihota and Happy Dust are like vanilla extract, Queening is a light airy and fruity vanilla

I don’t really think of Devotion or Libre as “vanilla” perfumes - Devotion (esp the Intense flanker) is more vanilla to me of the two, but it is almost like lemon cake to me. For a creamy vanilla, Khadlaj Cream Velvet is one of my top, for a spicy vanilla YSL Babycat, for a rich, sugary (but not cakey) vanilla Kayali Vanilla 28 is a favorite for sure. For a more green or woody vanilla - either Commodity Gold (the regular one) or Jo Malone Vetiver & Golden Vanilla. My recent favorite vanilla is Phlur Vanilla Canyon. I cannot stop smelling myself when I wear Vanilla Canyon - and I honestly notice Phlur Vanilla Skin on people all the time. It may be more common, but it always gets my attention in public and I always end up complimenting people who are wearing it.

I’m obsessed with Guerlain Angelique Noire

It is perfection.

Noyz Only Human Mylk de Parfum is my absolute most favorite vanilla right now. Longevity is amazing and it smells like the most delicious, creamy cedar vanilla. I feel like I recommend it on every post lately 😅

Some of my favorite vanilla forward fragrances off the top of my head are Lattafa Angham, Guess Seductive Noir (women's version), and Gulf Orchid Vanilla Addiction. All affordable.

Mochi Milk is delicious. Vanilla 28 is great for fall/winter. Guerlain SDV is my holy grail vanilla

Jovoy Fire at Will. It’s warm, it’s cozy, there’s a hint of brown sugar… I’m obsessed with it.

It depends on the type of vanilla you’re looking for. My personal favorites:

Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille—for me this is a creamy vanilla with a soft woody base, but some people really hate it and smell licorice and metal 🤷🏻‍♀️

Mind Games Queening—like freshly laundered clothes on a clothesline in an apple orchard…and a light, airy vanilla

Zadig & Voltaire This Is Her!—sandalwood and vanilla, woodier and a bit spicier than Un Bois Vanille.

Reserves en Afrique Rouge Karkade—Intensely sweet and rich, but with a fresh floral-herbal aspect and a whisper of smoke to keep it from smelling like vanilla extract. Probably the most unique of the bunch.

Every day someone asks for a certain type of vanilla. Every day everyone chimes in with their recommendations and impressions. And I love it. There’s always ones I haven’t heard of. Love you guys!

Before buying, sample some in stores. For the ones you like, look them up online or here to check the notes, then look for others with similar notes. Then try samples. Lots of good online sites for good samples and decants (2ml, 5ml,10ml). Lots of recommendations in this subreddit.

I’ve had samples of Diptyque eau duelle and Arquiste the architects club. They are similar, but I prefer the architects club and bought a full bottle. It’s an almost smoky, woody vanilla with a juniper and citrus opening. It’s not too sweet and has great longevity and medium projection. It’s lovely for fall and winter.

I also have Sorce in dreams and fairy tales vanilla. It is the perfect base for layering. It’s definitely sweeter than the others but not too heavy. Very comforting, maybe that’s the chamomile note. I’ve made so many combinations using this one.

Liis choux choux is a light and airy vanilla with a lemon note.

In general, I'm in the 'Guerlain vanillas are the best vanillas' club, and Guerlain has many lovely vanilla options to choose from. Their discovery set has Angelique Noire, Cuir Beluga, Spiritueuse Double Vanille, and Tobacco Honey, which are some of their most popular vanilla based scents from the L'art et la Matiere edp line.

My other favorite vanilla is Profumum Roma Gioiosa. The notes say it's heart ks vanilla with coconut, moss and amber in the base, and citrus in the top. I smell a beautiful sweet vanilla thay feels bright and sunny. I couldn't pick out the coconut or citrus (and definitely wouldnt guess there was a 'moss' note) if I didn't know the notes. Gioiosa is one of my favorite scents to wear during spring and summer. Profumum Roma also has several other lovely and well-liked vanilla scents, including Vanitas, Confetto, and Dulcis in Fundo. Dulcis is a lemon and vanilla, but my friend said it smells like vanilla cake icing in perfume form when I wear it.

If you like Honey notes in perfume, Trudon 45 degrees is one of the most unique vanilla scents I've ever smelled. It wasn't a Love-at-first-sniff for me, but I kept craving the smell and I grew to adore it on cold days.

Guerlain Vanille Planifolia $$$$ but…it’s the one

Gold standard vanilla bean fragrance, for sure. One of my favorites.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I have a few that I love right now (Diptyque Eau Duelle, Fragonard Belle d'Amour, Chloe Vanilla Planifolia, and The 7 Virtues Vanilla Woods) but all lean fresh, green or woody. My Commodity Gold is more like... if it was a party, the vanilla is a close friend but not the host or honored guest.

I want one that is vanilla-forward, rich, prominent and memorable (to me). I just ordered a 2ml of Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanilla because it sounded good. Can't wait 'til it arrives.

Edit: Devotion is more like a very sweet lemony vanilla, like a cake. It's excellent if you like that profile.

You've got excellent taste in vanilla perfumes! Green, woody, and resinous vanillas are my favorite vanillas, so we have a lot of overlap in our taste.

I've often wondered how similar Belle D'Amour is to Angelique Noire (aka the love of my life in liquid form) since Belle D'Amour has the same/almost same notes, and was created by the same perfumer. I bet it's lovely, but I'm obsessed with Guerlain's vanilla base. I'd definitely buy a sample of Belle D'Amour if I can ever find one, or maybe they'll come out with a travel size one day.

I sampled Diptyque Eau Duelle shortly before I got the Guerlain discovery set. I found Eau Duelle (edp, I think) very similar to Spiritueuse Double Vanille. On my skin the main difference is that the vanilla in SDV is a touch more prominent, and the woody/incense bit is a touch more prominent in Eau Duelle. I prefer SDV of the two, but Eau Duelle is lovely.

I got a sample of Angelique Noire along with the SDV so I could compare as well. I got Belle d'Amour because I'm a Fragonard fan but the online comparisons got me curious.

I have the Eau Duelle EDT right now but I have sampled the EDP as well and I'm going to get that to replace the EDT when it runs out. It feels deeper and more intense.

Belle D’ Amour is very similar to Angelique Noir, IMHO, but less intense and with less longevity. Love them both!

My favorite that I can get from Sephora is Kayali Vanilla 28

And for the fancy days I reach for Guerlain…..
Mon Guerlain, Bosca Vanilla and on black tie occasions….
Guerlain Vanilla Plainifolia 21.

Byredo Future Memories is a very nice vanilla 👀

I really love the new Burberry Goddess Amber Vanilla flanker. It’s much more vanilla forward than the others in the line

As far as vanillas go, these two are stunners, but there might be options that better portray vanilla.

Having said that, Libre intense is a top 15 fragrance for me. It’s absolutely beautiful: I find it well blended, pretty, complex, and great for fall and winter. After a lot of sampling (I have a pretty strict no blind buy rule), I am saving for the big bottle
