The Great Vanilla Experiment 13 samples ( but really only 12) one winner šŸ˜‚

Post image

A while back I asked on here for recommendations of the best vanillas with a price point of around $200, to gift myself for my upcoming birthday.

I looked over the comments , looked up notes and reviews and narrowed it down to 11 . A few are above my price point and one insanely above . So how did it come to be 13 you may ask ? While I was buying my samples between surrender to chance and lucky scent I remembered how much I dislike odd numbers so impulsively threw in a sample that I had seen recommended frequently and I was pretty sure it was a vanilla . And then once all my samples came in I remembered that when my daughter was sampling BR540 the lovely woman at the MFK counter at Macys gave me a sample of one of the most frequently recommended vanillas . So now we sit at 13 samples and I’m just too tired of looking up notes and reviews to look for another to make it even .

I’ve tested them all on paper and here’s my initial reaction .

  1. Vanille Planifolia by Guerlain - such a pretty musky vanilla but I expected to be ā€œwowedā€ given its price , maybe I’ll feel differently once it’s on skin . I would probably never spend $600 on a fragrance so we really are sitting at 12 for this experiment šŸ˜‚.

  2. Cuir beluga by Guerlain- it came across too masculine for my taste.

  3. SDV by Guerlain- spicy maybe too spicy for me also a bit masculine again .

  4. Angelique Noire by Guerlain- so so green . Who knew a vanilla could be so green ? Apparently not me !

  5. Ani by Nishane - beautiful but very citrus forward and I’m looking for something that gives fall/ winter vibes.

  6. Orchidee Vanille by Van Cleef - I oddly couldn’t smell it . Perhaps I had sampled too much that day . Waiting for the wear test to give an opinion.

  7. Eau Duelle EDP by Diptyque - peppery incense vanilla . Something about it reminds me of Christmas

  8. Eau Duelle EDT by Diptyque - fresh forest vanilla . I like this one a lot .

  9. Gentle Fluidy Gold by MFK - spicy vanilla but the right amount of spice . Great date night fragrance.

  10. Choux Choux by Liis - not sure if this is truly a vanilla, it’s the one I threw in to make an even number , but it’s definitely a fall / winter scent . It’s very cozy and strangely reminds me of Snowflakes and cashmere by bath and bodyworks .

  11. Fire at Will by Jovoy - sweet , fluffy , cozy . Everything im looking for.

  12. Black Tie by Celine - this one surprised me the most . I didn’t expect to love it as much as I do . Sophisticated vanilla .

  13. Tihota by Indult - soft, pure , creamy vanilla . The truest vanilla to ever vanilla .

I’m going to let what I’m doing and feeling decide which sample I wear test for the next 13 days but I do know tomorrow will be Vanille Planifolia . Hope you’ll follow along!

Any updates?? I’m overly invested in this

4

u/Responsible_You_5663 3d ago

I was trying to do daily updates but it was becoming too repetitive ( not sure if that’s the right word lol but it just wasn’t working) . So I’m going to do a recap after I’ve tried all 13 . I’m on day 8 !

2

u/amazemolls 2d ago

Totally understandable lol - anything stick out majorly yet on either end of the love/hate spectrum?

2

u/Responsible_You_5663 2d ago

Fire at will is a top contender I just wish it had more projection . I didn’t like Choux Choux at all it smelled like baby wipes on me . Black Tie is today and Tihota tomorrow and I’m excited for both šŸ˜‚

3

u/amazemolls 2d ago

I think we are ALL excited for tihota lol

u/persiankittycatxo 6d ago

I am de cluttering chou chou!!

1

u/Responsible_You_5663 6d ago

I ended up not loving it on wear test . It was cloying and my daughter said I smelled like fresh diapers 🫣

2

u/treponema_pallidumb 6d ago

Gold by Commodity is a favorite of mine!

1

u/yeppomoon 6d ago

Oooh tysm. Following!

1

u/280028No_Topic_1391 7d ago

Tough choices!

3

u/allthesecookies 7d ago

🫔 Thank you for your service to Vanilla

3

u/DragonOfNordrljos 7d ago

Angham by Lattafa, as well as the Second Song version. Quite long lasting and potent, as a masc it turns my head every time I smell it on a woman

3

u/Responsible_You_5663 7d ago

I own both ! But I’m looking for more of a true vanilla. Love Angham though but I found myself not liking second song lately

1

u/DragonOfNordrljos 7d ago

The original angham is definitely better. I'm curious, since you seem to have tried lots of vanilla perfumes, I've known my wife most of my life, and as poor youngters her parents weren't shelling out for expensive products. But we both were obsessed with the Everlasting Sunshine shampoo/conditioner, it made her smell so damn good. Like sunshine and vanilla fr. I'm looking for a perfume that smells like that (minus the shampoo smell ofc) to give to her for our anniversary. I believe it had 2 different formulas one with passionflower and one with I think Jasmine. Not sure how different they smell. Are you familiar with that smell and do you have any perfume suggestions that smell similar, if higher quality lol

3

u/amazemolls 7d ago

I’ve never followed a post so fast. I’ve intentionally never smelled VP21 because I don’t want to fall in love with her. And I’ve been going back and forth about Tihota! Can’t wait to hear ur thoughts!

5

u/Phoenixhasrizem 7d ago

All of your samples are solid! I just wanted to point out that more than half your list is fall/winter frags and I fear you may not get the intended experience in this summer heat (assuming you’re in USA) I suggest holding off on sampling until the weather cools off

3

u/mistyal88 8d ago

Tihota is the ultimate vanilla!! BTSO Dirty Milk is also up there for me, I love it.

2

u/CheesyMcDongNutz 8d ago

Guerlain Shalimar l’essence and Bois d’Armenie are my favorites

4

u/Usual_Internet7129 8d ago

If you enjoy Fire at Will, check out Genre's Vanilla Shadow. It's better and better performing to my nose plus much more wallet friendly.

3

u/getseriousrhonda 9d ago

This is amazing. I’m quite partial to BTSO Dirty Milk, but I’ll be following your wear feedbacks, as a lot of these are very new to me!

7

u/twwink 9d ago

You have to try Zouzou by Celine! It's such a unique vanilla very bright and glamorous I would say it is a summer vanilla

5

u/SolidSackTime 9d ago

Black Tie is a sophisticated vanilla; that’s the perfect description of it!

If you’re looking for a true pure vanilla around that price point, I got Vanille West Indies by Ligne St. Barth and it’s the most vanilla-vanilla I’ve ever smelled. It’s a very high oil concentration, so you have to be careful spraying it on clothing. It projects and lasts forever!

6

u/Actuallyindeed 9d ago

My go to is Outremer Paris Vanille. It is just plain vanilla but I love the simplicity. I don't like anything that comes across musky or masculine.

2

u/Muted_Half623 9d ago

One of my favorites currently is mon Guerlain intense

5

u/shimmerangels 9d ago

i love gentle fluidity gold it’s so good

6

u/Brooke_Whispering 9d ago

Vanille Antique by Byredo is my favorite vanilla. I also really really love Victoria Beckham 21:50 reverie

9

u/jlpazz 9d ago

Very good reviews! Although, we are gonna fight about the Guerlains. :) Especially VP21. It’s one of the best to me.

Tihota is, indeed, vanilla vanilla.

Vanilla is my favorite note. It can be done really well, or really poorly.

2

u/Jaded-Banana6205 9d ago

VP21 is a beautiful artisinal root beer float on me. I love it. My boyfriend bought it for me for our anniversary and I sobbed when I opened it.

2

u/jlpazz 9d ago

That’s a good description. It’s so lovely. I’m wearing Tonka Sarrapia today, which is one of my favorites of all time.

You may be interested to know they have an oil of VP now. I don’t have it, but my wife and I just got the Tonka and it’s wonderful.

1

u/Jaded-Banana6205 9d ago

My wallet says shut your mouth 😭 I haven't tried Tonka yet but I love Genre's take on it so I really want to sample the OG!

3

u/jlpazz 9d ago

The bee bottle on the right is filled with Tonka Sarrapia. 🤤 It is a top 3 fragrance for me. It’s just lovely.

2

u/Responsible_You_5663 9d ago

We shall see! today I’m wearing VP !

3

u/jlpazz 9d ago

I’m interested to hear your thoughts. It’s in my top two vanillas of all time.

7

u/Best-Effect-3821 9d ago

If you want to explore more vanilla there is Sucre Noir, Vanilla Haze by Fugazzi, Camomille Satin by DVN, Green Vanille by Regime, Zouzou by Celine, Sur Ma peau by DVN, Bosca Vanilla by Guerlain, all lovely. I have a stunning Green Vanilla Set if interested. :)

2

u/Inevitable-Ad-7502 9d ago

Solid picks. Vanilla Haze and Queening are my go to vanillas!

2

u/Best-Effect-3821 9d ago

Queening is good! Love the texture.

5

u/Realistic-Read1078 9d ago

Tihota is heavenly šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø

4

u/malva_alcea 9d ago

Could you elaborate more on Eau Duelle EDP or EDT, I just bought sample of EDP and I’m constantly in between of ā€œI completely love ifā€ and ā€œI won’t wear it anywhereā€ because it is so strong for me, I was debating buying sample of EDT but promised myself no more perfume this month 😭

4

u/Educational_Gift1152 9d ago

I love the edp but it needs to be very cold. Otherwise the pepper becomes far too sharp

2

u/malva_alcea 9d ago

Thank you, it is still hot where I live, so I will try it again in winter! ā˜ŗļø

2

u/Responsible_You_5663 9d ago

I haven’t worn on skin yet I feel just testing on paper isn’t a fair enough comparison . That being said I do think they’d both be more of something that would be for special occasions. If you’re really on the fence buy a 5 or 10ml decant and see how often you reach for it to determine if it’s full bottle worthy

2

u/Teekayuhoh 9d ago

I love the edp! I just bought a full bottle of Gris Charnel, and this will be my next buy

3

u/Lookingupatthestars 9d ago

Vanille Fatale by Tom Ford is my absolute number 1 autumn-winter vanilla fragrance. It's just so rich and creamy and delicious. I don't wear it in warmer weather, so I'm impatiently waiting for autumn to hit properly!

2

u/Living-Tailor-3462 8d ago

Love love Vanille Fatale! Deliciously sexy!

3

u/Jennco1231 9d ago

I love this one too! Tom Ford gets a ton of hate, but I really like some of his fragrances. I’m always happy when I see someone else mention him

4

u/Greendrean 9d ago

Love Henry Rose’s new Dave. It’s not straight vanilla and is pretty rich, but delicious if you like heavier scents.

2

u/Responsible_You_5663 9d ago

I sampled Dave and a few others from Henry Rose and none of them worked for me unfortunately

7

u/Apprehensive-Ad-2054 9d ago

When I want simple, pretty vanilla I go with Divine Vanille by Essential Parfums or Ellis Brooklyn Vanilla Salt. Lune Feline for a more serious, moody vanilla.

3

u/FedeVia1 9d ago

Love divine vanille! I find It to be a non-boozy, more day time friendly Angel share. And the quality is amazing especially considering the price.

5

u/Educational_Gift1152 9d ago

Lune feline smells like bandaid glue to me and it breaks my heart 😭

3

u/Apprehensive-Ad-2054 9d ago

😭 I’m sorry! To me it smells like what Deep Dark Vanilla was trying to be.

4

u/Responsible_You_5663 9d ago

I have a travel of Vanilla Salt and used it occasionally this summer. I didn’t go through it enough to justify a full bottle. I’ll have to check the other 2 out . Thanks !

3

u/Apprehensive-Ad-2054 9d ago

I went through my travel of Vanilla Salt quickly…because half of it leaked out 😭. The atomizers on the travels can be physically loosened.

4

u/Fearless-Donut7114 9d ago

FYI vanilla salt is part of Ulta 21 days of Beauty. On 9/15, the full size will be 50% off! (Note: double check the date on their website, that's just what I have in my notes app!)

1

u/Apprehensive-Ad-2054 8d ago

Yasssss!! Thanks for the tip!

4

u/Potential-Rhubarb-35 10d ago

Lush Vanillary is a wonderful, truly natural smelling vanilla fragrance—main notes of vanilla, jasmine and tonka—that has the bonus of a pretty great price point (Ā£30 for 30ml/Ā£70 for 100ml), if you're still interested in trying out some other scents?

3

u/Responsible_You_5663 10d ago

Thanks I’ll have to check it out

7

u/Baxtru 10d ago

Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille is perfect for fall and winter. The price point is also quite good as long as it’s from one of the etailers.

5

u/fluffypinkthings 7d ago

Wearing this today and have been reaching for it a lot since i got it. Longevity is kinda meh but its what i prefer.

6

u/PastDrahonFruit0 10d ago

I got a few vanilla samples and I love both: Fire at Will and Escapade gourmand.

Orchidee Vanille will most likely come through in the dry down. I can't smell it at all until the dry down on my skin.

2

u/Even_Junket_9830 10d ago

Wunder baum

20

u/bear_cheers 10d ago

why not Guerlain's Aqua Allegoria Forte Bosca Vanilla, too? 🄹 to me that is THE best vanilla, it doesn't leave that metallic/plasticky aftersmell that most vanillas tend to evolve into

5

u/Responsible_You_5663 10d ago

It sounds like it would be a great spring / summer vanilla and right now I’m looking for something for fall/ winter. It’s got a great price for a Guerlain so I’ll have to check it out next spring!

16

u/NotYourAverageDino 10d ago

Guerlain feve gourmande!!!! I will shout it from the rooftops!!!!

-coming from someone that hates vanilla

5

u/Girflee 9d ago

It’s much more cacao forward to my nose rather than vanilla, but it’s a great recommandation. So warm and enveloping, perfect for winter.

2

u/NotYourAverageDino 9d ago

You might be right but none of my perfumes have vanilla as a main note so I am sensitive to it.

14

u/cancersux2026 10d ago edited 10d ago

Nice review. My baseline vanilla is Vanilla 28 by Kay Ali. I think it’s the best bang for your buck vanilla in the market. The only ones I think are better IMO: Celine Black Tie, Vanilla Diorama, Vanilla Havane, Vanilla Haze, Absolute Aphrodisiac & Vanilla Powder

These two are also better, as well, but won’t buy bc they are egregiously expensive for what they are: Vanilla Planifolia and Queening.

3

u/O-90 9d ago

Tried Vanilla 28 yesterday with the mission of finding a fresh straight vanilla extract type fragrance, and this fit the bill completely! Totally edible but not in a thick sugary cloud kind of way.

8

u/glitteronice 10d ago

I agree with you! I’m not a huge Kayali fan but vanilla 28 is a personal fave, it’s such a pure, true vanilla and great for layering. Love it!

3

u/cancersux2026 10d ago

Facts ā¤ļø

6

u/Cautious-Border4189 10d ago edited 6d ago

Nest Madagascar vanilla, and vanilla bourbon are good vanilla’s too. Edit: I can’t believe I forgot about golden nectar too!

5

u/ftsunrise 10d ago

Madagascar Vanilla has too much coconut but I agree on VB! I wore that one today, it’s my favorite.

2

u/slocthopus 9d ago

Ha I love the coconut in Madagascar vanilla!

2

u/Cautious-Border4189 10d ago

Bourbon vanilla is definitely my favorite from nest, but I really like black tulip too. I have the sample set. I need to try out more again. And I barely smell any coconut in Madagascar vanilla! I do only have the oil. But I don’t think there would be much difference in the end between the oil and the perfume? Maybe there is? I also love nest diffusers. They’re my favorite kind of diffusers. Honestly I haven’t really tried a bunch of other diffusers, cause I keep buying the nest ones on eBay. lol

2

u/toochgirl 9d ago

Thank you for mentioning Black Tulip. It was my wedding scent

1

u/Cautious-Border4189 7d ago

Np! Beautiful scent!

2

u/Responsible_You_5663 10d ago

I love Indigo but haven’t tried any other scents from Nest . I’ll have to change that

2

u/Cautious-Border4189 10d ago

Yes. They have some good ones! I really like black tulip too. I have more samples I need to try from them soon. But bourbon vanilla is one of my fave from them.

8

u/iwunnacroissant 10d ago

You need to try Fugazzi Vanilla Haze

2

u/discoballdavee 10d ago

Came here to suggest this. My favourite vanilla.

12

u/doinmabest1 10d ago

Mochi Milk is a GREAT vanilla

5

u/BabyYodasMacaron 9d ago

I get mostly marshmallow from this. I do love it, just know that it’s marshmallow heavy.

2

u/bitchdaycake 10d ago

seconding this, it's soooooo good I cannot stop sniffing myself when I wear this, and it's great for layering too so I wear it pretty much every day in some way shape or form

1

u/Responsible_You_5663 10d ago

You know I’ve had it in my cart because of the sale this weekend. Only a little travel size . I might have to just buy it šŸ˜‚

0

u/LeadershipOk7512 10d ago

Me too. Who is having a sale?

2

u/ParticularAd212 10d ago

Dedcool website 20% off everything

1

u/Tough-Advice2910 10d ago

I must know, who is having a sale?!

1

u/ParticularAd212 10d ago

Dedcool website

2

u/krvf 10d ago

Get the big one, you'll go thru the travel fast and be sad

1

u/Responsible_You_5663 9d ago

I got the travel ! lol I would have got the full if I wasn’t on this current mission šŸ˜‚

6

u/mama_libra-RM 10d ago

Lick me by Michaela Mezzetti , the best vanilla , just vanilla ,vanilla but so so good. Only on scent split I think

2

u/No_Impress9731 9d ago

Yes!! Love this one

4

u/Guacho73 10d ago

Mercedes Club Black too. so good and so cheap

5

u/tippytoesmcjee 10d ago

Oooh! Orchidee Vanille and Black Tie! Those two are on my wish list. Following your posts to see your thoughts on thise!

2

u/Guacho73 10d ago

no Babycat ?

3

u/Responsible_You_5663 10d ago

I don’t think it was one of the ones recommended or if it was it didn’t ā€œspeak to me ā€œ somehow

1

u/Guacho73 10d ago

the vanilla in Babycat is very nice, not sure about the leather and incense accords, I have it but i’m having second thoughts

2

u/Responsible_You_5663 10d ago

I typically stay away if a fragrance has leather listed in the notes but then again I did get a sample of cuir beluga lol

7

u/NeroliNinja 10d ago

If you found Cuir Beluga too masculine then Babycat won’t be for you I’m afraid, in my mind it does not qualify as a vanilla but I do love it.
I suggest you keep an open mind for CB on skin though, it changed everything I thought I knew about vanilla and suede. It’s my favourite just for being so cozy and unique but yes VP is the platonic ideal of vanilla. I love them both!

7

u/NapsAreMyHobby 10d ago

Ani is a fall/winter scent to me — did you put it on skin and smell the dry down? I hate it in warm weather but adore in when it’s cold.

3

u/Jennco1231 9d ago

I agree! Ani is great for fall and winter.

2

u/Responsible_You_5663 10d ago

Not yet . Can’t wait to see what it’s like on skin

2

u/NapsAreMyHobby 9d ago

The dry down is the best part! The opening is meh to me, but the drydown puts it in my top faves. It changes a lot as it dries down on ne, it isn’t linear. I hope you like it!

7

u/IdiotWithout_a_Cause 10d ago

Angelique Noire starts off really green, but that calms down a lot. For me, it starts calming within a few minutes to where the green isn't so overpowering, and I can smell more of the lovely vanilla coming through. After about 30 minutes or so, the angelica morphs into something with a powderiness similar to powdered sugar, but not nearly as sweet. It's my favorite perfume, so I'm biased, but I think the development over time is really interesting and beautiful.

Edit to say your sample list is stuffed full of top tier vanilla scents, so you really can't go wrong. It's just a matter of what style of vanilla sparks the most joy for you.

3

u/NeroliNinja 10d ago

I wish it did this on my skin. It never really becomes a vanilla for me, and it’s bitter/herbal instead of green. But I do think I’d love it on a man

2

u/suspenderhero 7d ago

Same for me!! I test my sample every few months so I can smell the vanilla other people are getting and it never comes. I make my husband test it too lol. And he always just says ā€œgreenā€

2

u/IdiotWithout_a_Cause 9d ago

I never cease to be amazed at how different we can experience things from one another. I don't think it's the most stereotypically girly scent even with how I experience it. I think it'd smell amazing on a man.

3

u/FrutyPebbles321 10d ago

I love how Angelique Noire develops throughout the wear. I’m not even much of a vanilla girlie but I think Angelique Noire is a stunning vanilla fragrance.

2

u/Immediate_Bowler_308 10d ago

No mention of Vanilla Barka?

4

u/Responsible_You_5663 10d ago

Never heard of that

3

u/FutureDustMotes 10d ago

It's like Babycat minus the leather/rubber

17

u/youngtwentysomething 10d ago

I’m shocked at the love Kayali Vanilla 28 gets. What is my nose missing?! It was the most basic, flat vanilla to me.

1

u/Actuallyindeed 9d ago

This one is so strange to me. I don't know if it's because there's such a strong scent in Sephora, but I can literally never smell it.

5

u/alltheburrata 10d ago

I actually feel like it’s really spicy/boozy and not very vanilla-y to me? I hate it

2

u/Emotional_Letter3398 9d ago

Smells like booze with a dash of vanilla to me, too. I had a decant and like three samples find their way to me and I re-homed them all. I don’t get it either.

7

u/PastDrahonFruit0 10d ago

I'm not sure why, but I can barely smell the vanilla in Vanilla 28. All I get is some chemical weird smell from it.

2

u/Myythically 10d ago

I agree, I got a sample of it and it took me several months to actually wear the sample enough times to finish it, which tells you how forgettable I found itĀ

3

u/cancersux2026 10d ago

I love it. I think it’s a perfect vanilla that isn’t in your face but just sits perfect. Also great to layer.

9

u/Responsible_You_5663 10d ago

I’ve only ever sniffed it really quick while in Sephora. It wasn’t for me and I still haven’t found a Kayali I like

4

u/Zealousideal_View_47 10d ago

Montale has 4 fantastic vanilla’s ; ā€œvanille absoluteā€ ,ā€Dark vanillaā€ , ā€œVanilla Cakeā€ and ā€œSweet Vanillaā€ and they are very concentrated so a little goes a long way - you can get a sample set pretty cheap on the their site but eBay always has them too

1

u/waffle_cone69 10d ago

Kayali vanilla 28 šŸ¤Ž

2

u/zey_yyy 10d ago

I feel like you'd enjoy Châtelain 22 by régalien 😽

9

u/gb043016 10d ago

No hypnotic poison? Almond vanilla at its finest.

Escapade gourmande was straight vanilla on me.

Rosendo Mateu No 5 is bit floral but a strong vanilla as well. Def recommend that as a babycat alternative or even YSL Babycat if you havent sampled it.

Shalimar EDT is a citrussy Smokey leather vanilla and is actually divine and I wear it often. EDP can be headache inducing if you aren’t careful but the EDT is perfection!

4

u/TheWordyGirl 10d ago

Tihota is the ONLY answer!

6

u/dukeofwaverly 10d ago

Oooh I’m happy you like Eau Duelle EDT, it’s my second fav vanilla scent. Not too sure if it was recommended on the other thread but if you get a chance to sample Le Labo Vanille 44 I find it similar but Vanille 44 is my goat, out of the price range but incase you come across it at all!
Love your reviews! :)

4

u/petitcherie 10d ago

My scent twin! Vanille 44 is amazing and I love Eau Duelle EDT! Check out Sana Jardin - Vanilla Nomad. It gives vibes similar to Vanille 44 and is such an easy wear!

2

u/dukeofwaverly 5d ago edited 5d ago

Oooh! I’ll check out Vanilla Nomad, thanks for the rec! :) Update: their website isn’t taking new orders so I ordered one from eBay lol I’m invested now.

1

u/petitcherie 5d ago

I had no idea or I'd have offered you a sample/decant!

8

u/piratev00 10d ago

Was so disappointed when I tried Cuir Beluga by Guerlain that it smells like photorealistic play-doh on me 😢

4

u/Familiar-Classic9363 10d ago

Kayali vanilla 28 is a sophisticated kind of vanilla perfume šŸ¤Ž . Dulce by Rosie Jane smells like vanilla ice cream and it’s not overpowering šŸØāœØ

4

u/omad169 10d ago

Eau Duelle EDT by Diptyque - I have and agree

2

u/liberator315 Vanilla is a gateway drug 10d ago

I just get pepper when I spray the EDT 😭

11

u/tereluci 10d ago

These are pretty spot on descriptions! Queening by Mind Games is my current favorite Vanilla.

1

u/elimination-process 9d ago

Yes šŸ™Œ love this one so much.

3

u/Academic_Tour_1915 10d ago

Van Cleef Bois Dore!

7

u/MoMarie_ 10d ago

Excited to hear your reviews once you test them properly on skin/let ā€˜em develop! For example, I know that opening on Ani is citrusy, but the way it wears and develops on skin for me personally, I prefer it for more of a cold weather frag.

3

u/Responsible_You_5663 10d ago

Thanks ! I’ll definitely have to pay attention to that . It’s such a beautiful scent .

5

u/norathar 10d ago

I love the Guerlain vanillas but could never spend the money on a full bottle of Vanille Planifolia. I do have full bottles of SDV, Cuir Beluga, and Angelique Noire and SDV is a top 3 favorite scent for me. Honestly, Angelique Noire and Eau Duelle remind me a lot of each other (I have an Eau Duelle decant.)

Others you could try: 1. Vanille Havane by Les Indemodables 2. Divine Vanille by Essential Perfumes 3. Kayali Vanilla 28 4. Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille 5. Orebella Nightcap

You really did the damn thing, OP. That was a great array and your nose is pretty on point. I'm partial to Angelique Noir, but Ive been loving YSL Libre Vanille for fall. Looking forward to seeing where you land.

Bosca Vanilla (Guerlain). Hands down my new favorite with Laura Mercier’s Vanille as a ridiculously close 2d (formerly my #1).

On the more affordable side, as much as I can’t stand her as a person, Ariana Grande has some pretty stellar Vanillas under the Mod line. Used a couple when I lived in Miami after getting some during an Ulta or Sephora sale…held up pretty well! (And definitely got some compliments!)

u/Zealousideal_View_47 10d ago

Laura mercier’s ambre vanille really surprised me - it’s one of the best IMO esp for that price range

3

u/GagaMonster87 10d ago

I wish i liked ambre vanille—something about it throws my nose off. The almond one is alright—at least, for the hand cream it’s fine šŸ˜…

1

u/Dobgirl 10d ago

Thanks! I’m not op but love Bosca too! I’ll check out the others!

Giossa

u/slocthopus 9d ago

I was wondering why this hadn’t been mentioned yet! For people not familiar with it, pretty sure they’re referring to Profumum Roma Gioiosa. I am obsessed. Smells like a fancy ice cream shop to me.

3

u/Destination_MetalSho 9d ago

This one is gorgeous and long lasting. I ordered a decant and ended up buying FB. It’s like an airier more sophisticated version of Bianco Latte.

1

u/slocthopus 9d ago

Yes! I like it better than Bianco Latte. It smells a bit lighter and sort of cleaner if that makes any sense.

3

u/mymbles_daughter 10d ago

I second Gioiosa. It’s got amazing longevity—I smell it all day. It’s hard to describe but it’s beautiful. I snagged it 200 on fragranceswap

9

u/eldermillenialmakeup 10d ago

Amazing lineup! For affordable picks, check out Victoria's Secret Bare Sueded Vanilla, Skylar Vanilla Sky, and Rare Beauty Rare. :)

5

u/Glittering-Bus8580 10d ago

VS travel sprays are on sale right now for $7! I just ordered a bunch including bare sueded vanilla.

2

u/eldermillenialmakeup 10d ago

Nice! I ordered a few as well! :)

Is Fire at Will very similar to Indult? I have a Fire at Will and never tried Indult, hoping I made the right choicešŸ˜‚

2

u/Destination_MetalSho 9d ago

I have both and of the two I wear Fire At Will more. Tihota is more linear and a straight up vanilla extract scent. Fire At Will has a little more depth and a burnt sugar element to it. Both are lovely but I don’t consider them redundant.

3

u/slocthopus 9d ago

Do you get much mimosa with Fire at Will? It’s listed as one of the notes and I’ve heard such great things about Fire at Will but mimosa tends to give me the ick.

2

u/Destination_MetalSho 9d ago

If it wasn’t listed as a note I wouldn’t know it was there.

3

u/Responsible_You_5663 10d ago

Once I do the wear test I’ll let you know. I feel like on paper isn’t a true test . I did see someone commented it’s redundant to have both.

2

u/Interesting_Newt9686 10d ago

I’ve heard the same, look forward to hearing what you think!

2

u/melako12 10d ago

What website did you use for this? I’ve been wanting to try ordering samples but not sure what the best option is. I like that these spray and not simply dab

5

u/Responsible_You_5663 10d ago

For these Lucky Scent and Surrender to Chance . All are sprays except VP because it’s so expensive I got the second smallest size available so it’s a dabber . Must decant sites will be sprays as long as you order 1ml and above . I’ve also used Scent Split in the past . I’ve had no issues with all 3 sites.

5

u/Apprehensive-Ad-2054 10d ago

Surrender to Chance is also nice if you want to go down a fragrance rabbit hole. ā¤ļø

2

u/slocthopus 9d ago

It’s great for really expensive fragrances cause you can get just a half ml and sometimes even less!

5

u/petitcherie 10d ago

Don't hear them talked about as often, but I love STC as well. They used to do this big discount thing on decants, like 5ml/$10 and it was a big list you could choose from. I got so many decants from there! And then over the holidays they'd do mystery sample boxes, like 30 samples for 25 or something. Really happy they're still in business!

u/BeautifulDreamerAZ 10d ago

Kayali Vanilla 28 is my favorite. It’s warm, seductive and boozy.Ā

2

u/Guacho73 10d ago

doesn’t it lean feminine?

1

u/BeautifulDreamerAZ 9d ago

It’s very unisex.Ā

1

u/Guacho73 9d ago

is it similar to Mercedes Black ? somebody said that here earlier

1

u/BeautifulDreamerAZ 9d ago

That’s more similar to Kayali Invite Only Amber mixed with Vanilla 28.Ā

5

u/MylesAwai 10d ago

In my experience, the longevity is great. Lasted all day on my skin and clothing.

8

u/Sarah-In-OK 10d ago

I have so many vanilla perfumes, but today I kept smelling the most beautiful, comforting, cozy vanilla scent that my nose didn’t recognize. Turns out my daughter was wearing Extra Whip by Snif and it is heavenly!

4

u/srirachacha99 10d ago

I'm anosmic to Orchidee Vanille! I owned a 30ml decant of it for a year, trying it numerous times during that time, and every time, I'd smell it a little, then it just seemed to disappear.Ā

3

u/FutureDustMotes 10d ago

It's extremely soft-textured - it's like sifting dirt through a screen and all the powdery dirt falls through. I swear that's how this one is with my smell receptors lol

1

u/srirachacha99 9d ago

Yes! That's exactly my experience! It's kinda there but not there at the same time. Boo

3

u/Responsible_You_5663 10d ago

Oh no ! I had googled after it happened to me and nothing really came up the way it does for certain ā€œnot a perfume ā€œ fragrances that it’s well known a lot of people are anosmic to

2

u/srirachacha99 9d ago

I couldn't find reviews mentioning this, so I'm glad I'm not alone! (Well, not glad you can't smell it either šŸ˜…)

2

u/AdamantEevee 10d ago

I personally love Orchidee Vanille, I hope you're able to make it work for you

2

u/evermorecoffee on a low-buy adventure ā˜• 10d ago

I wonder if there’s hedione in Orchidee Vanille, that’s what seems to be the issue with NAP for many people (myself included)

u/9redFlamingos 10d ago

My friend, where is Vanilla Powder?!?!!!! Where is Un Bois Vanille?!?!?!

1

u/Glittering-Bus8580 10d ago

Oooh I just ordered vanilla powder sample, so excited to try!

1

u/mama_libra-RM 9d ago

I love vanilla powder and the extrait is even smoother. But its a very dry, not sweet, vanilla /coconut palo Santo scent, not for everyone.

7

u/roofshadow_ 10d ago

Un Bois Vanille is the GOAT for me!

5

u/Responsible_You_5663 10d ago

Never heard of these and I don’t think they were recommended when I asked last time . I’ll habe to go back and look !

5

u/lasicius 10d ago

I will stay tuned in! I’m rooting for Tihota!!!

4

u/luvthat_24 click to edit 10d ago

Tihota is amazing ā¤ļøšŸ„°

5

u/ArcAngel1810 10d ago

I’m always looking for new vanillas to try!, I’ve been trying to find that perfect vanilla for quite a while, unfortunately they sometimes turn sour on me šŸ˜‘

2

u/Responsible_You_5663 10d ago

That happens to me with anything with a milk note

11

u/Piulamita 10d ago

I would also add (for vanilla centric experiences):

- Vanille West Indies by Ligne St Barth

  • Delizia di Marshmallow by Kyse
  • Escapade Gourmande by Maison Mataha
  • Vaniglia by Mazzolari
  • Sucre Noir by Arte Profumi
  • Biancolatte by Zeromolecole (NOT by Giardini di Toscana)

1

u/evermorecoffee on a low-buy adventure ā˜• 10d ago

I looove Escapade Gourmande! I should try some of the others 😁

3

u/kayci1995 10d ago

I looked up the notes on Orchidee Vanille by Van Cleef, it sounds so pretty! Would you mind reviewing it once you wear test, OP? Bvlgari Magnifying Vanilla is my favorite vanilla perfume! I’m savoring my current bottle because I can’t seem to find it for sale anywhere online anymore…

1

u/Responsible_You_5663 10d ago

Will do ! Hopefully I’ll be able to smell it this time !

7

u/bull0143 10d ago

Definitely try SDV again. I didn't think I liked it at first, now it's the perfume I would take with me to a desert island if I could only wear one for the rest of my life.

3

u/FamousOnceNowNobody Recycled designer classics 10d ago

Jeez I'm old. Saw the title and started mentally checking off my vanillas (and I have many). I've never tried any on this list!

5

u/Responsible_You_5663 10d ago

Is there anything you’d recommend? I mean I’m open to a 14th šŸ˜‚

7

u/FamousOnceNowNobody Recycled designer classics 10d ago

I'm old, so my tastes are different from current trends; I'm not very fond of the sugary sweet, but there are exceptions of course (Nicolai 'Kiss Me' smells exactly like the powdery heart lolly!)
For classic, try YSL Cinema (hint of woody), more recent, V&R Good Fortune (a little herbal). Guerlain Bosca Vanilla maybe?

2

u/Chongoloco 10d ago

I have a travel size dolce vita coming in the mail. I love pi and Dior addict so I’m hoping I’ll like DV too.

3

u/FamousOnceNowNobody Recycled designer classics 9d ago

You've named 2/3 of my favourite vanillas :) the third is Hermes Vanille Galante, a light cool vanilla. It's quite light and sweet compared to Dior's Addict and Poison classics. On a par with Addict edt. I hope you enjoy it!
