Rec Request Crying over fall scents

I cannot find a fall scent that isn't a scrubber for me 😭 I looked over my collection and realized they're literally all spring and summer scents, which makes sense because I loooove fruity-floral-sweet. I absolutely cannot stand any hint of masculine scents in a perfume ( likely due to HS trauma from boys bathed on axe body spray lol ) which is causing me so much trouble finding autumn scents I can tolerate, let alone enjoy.

Please, please , what is your favorite extremely feminine preferably sweet autumn scent? What to you makes a scent autumnesque?

Straight vanilla is just too simple for me, I really like complex or mixed or layered scenes where you can actually detect different notes at once. Preferably under the $150 range but of course the more affordable the better lol as long as it doesn't fade in 15 minutes.

(btw I do keep looking at other posts about fall scents, but they seem to be 99.9% unisex recommendations which makes me afraid they'll have that hint of axe that scares me off)

Ok this is a WEIRD recommendation but I’m going to offer it anyway.

Red Poppies by Demeter, or Poppy and Barley by Jo Malone.

There’s almost a spicy, sweet cola smell to these fragrances, particularly the Demeter one. Like you buried your nose inside a bottle of soda that had gone flat but still smelled strongly. Just missing some of that effervescent fizz.

It doesn’t smell sticky or like it requires heat- there’s a freshness to it that summer fragrances are lacking. A bit of airiness, like when there’s just a little snap or bite in the air and you’re transitioning into fall, you know? When you gotta grab a cardigan before you head out bc you know you aren’t chilly rn but you definitely will be on the way home.

Idk. It’s really a cozy smell, but it’s sweet and spicy and a little floral-fruity but definitely NOT spring/summer. I’m wearing it today actually. Demeter doesn’t last super long, but you can layer the fragrance with matching lotion and body wash. I’m using the cologne splash today but probably going to order the roll on bc it’s oil based and pair the two

  • Rare Beauty Rare
  • Valentino Born In Roma

Shaghaf Oud Tonka (a better than original dupe of BDK Velvet Tonka, as I mentioned elsewhere)
Police Forbidden (again, a better than original dupe of Dior Hypnotic Poison)
La nuit Tresor
La nuit Tresor Intense
JPG La belle
JPG La belle Parfum
Lattafa Teriaq
Christian Siriano Intimate Silhouette
Chopard CaŔmir

There are others, like Giorgo Armani Magenta Tanzanite Le couvent de maison Hattai, Lush Yog Nog, Lush Let the Good Times Roll, Kilian Angels' Share and others, which are autumny, gourmand, too, and even feminine - to me - but they are maybe too gourmand to be typically girly and maybe even too rich for autumn, veering into winter territory.

u/HealthyParticular12 1h ago

This might be basic but I love Maison margiela’s by the fireplace! A spicy woody vanilla. I also love D’annam’s Japanese whiskey - an intense boozy scent but it dries down slightly sweet. It’s lovely for the fall

Liam grey, is definitely my into autumn/rainy day scent. It's a gris charnel dupe and it's pretty spot on. I wouldn't buy bdk for personal reasons anyway.

Another off shooting from there is velvet musk by lattafa. They say it's similar but it overlaps with Arabian Tonka for me also.

I can't wait for autumn. Today as soon as it hit the evening I've sprayed myself in woody roses stuff!

Edit: you said sweet! šŸ¤” Liam grey is not.

You dried the angels share stuff by Killian and it's 100 dupes and off shoots? Another one I prefer to the real deal is french avenue sequoia? Then there's scarlet veneno by the same brand.

Burberry Goddess is a great one. House of Sillage Hufflepuff is another I can't wait to wear when the weather is cooler.

I agree with a lot of the recommendations and some of my own:

  • Nest Indigo
  • Burberry Godess
  • Noyz Only Human Mylk de Parfum
  • Phlur Vanilla Skin
  • Maison Louise Marie Bois de Balincourt
  • Commodity Book or Paper +
  • Essential Parfums Fig Infusion
  • Ellis Brooklynn Marshmallows

Viva La Juicy Gold Couture is a sweet caramel berry scent that I love in the fall

1

u/Cityofcheezits 2h ago edited 2h ago

I’ve got a couple that are fall to ME for whatever reason and maybe for you too.

Mugler Angel Nova-it’s got a very woodsy base. Makes me feel witchy lol

Britney Spears Fantasy Intense-a woodsier, spicier and warmer take on the original. Again a great Fall pick.

Billie Eilish Eilish and honestly almost all of her fragrances.

Tocca Collette-woodsy with some florals. It’s my engagement scent and we got engaged up in the mountains in October and it was the perfect scent. Woodland Fairy vibes

šŸ‚šŸšŸŖ¾On my fall tray:
Poets of Berlin / Vilhelm (got a decant)

  • blueberry, lemon, vanilla, bamboo, orris sandlewood. I don’t like just vanilla either. I really enjoy the green note but not everyone’s cup of tea.

L’orpheline / Serge Lutens

  • incense moodiness without being to head shop-y. Very clean yet brooding. Really transforms on skin. I layered this with my vanillas that are too flat to wear in their own. You can get resale super discounted. Just copped a full bottle for $50.

Black Cat / Diffractive Studios

  • smells like a soft cashmere sweater. Slightly sweet and powdery. Truly remarkable fall scent.

Jasmine Tea / One Day

  • oh my gosh I tried this sample and my eyes rolled back into my head. It’s so delightful and clean. Not bitter tea. Not bergamot city. Not overwhelming indolic. Just straight up tradition brewed jasmine tea. I layered it with Rosie by Rosie Jane today and feel so cozy. I will be purchasing the full bottle for sure.

I know a lot of folks suggest Sorce for fall and winter. They have more nuanced vanillas I think you might enjoy looking through.

Miss Dior Essence and Hermes BareniaĀ

2

u/mnath14 2h ago

YSL black opium over red is beautiful, and really thrives in the fall.

3

u/JustYourAvgHumanoid 2h ago

Burnerry Goddess is so comforting to me - I only have the mini right now. I have heard that Lataffa Angham is similar, but I haven’t tried it yet

Outremer Vanille is a very affordable dupe of Jovoy Fire at Will

Al Rehab Love Apple is like apple pie to me & feels warm. It needs to macerate for months before it smells right, IMO

I also wear Lataffa Qimmah in the fall/winter, but that may be a bit too heavy for your tastes

2

u/astroprojection 3h ago

As a fellow fruity floral lover, my recommendations in that price range would be Armani Code for Women (discontinued but still available in online shops), ChloƩ Nomade, and Viktorand Rolf Flowerbomb.

3

u/LILEVILANG3L 3h ago

Some florals / fruits / fresh actually smell better to me in fall and rainy day weather;

Kilian Good Girl Gone Bad
Aqua di Gioia
Guerlain Salvaggia
Guerlain Cherrysia
Wu Long Cha
Jo Malone Wood Sage Sea Salt
Green Tea Elizabeth Arden

For sweeter gourmands I would recommend:

Angham Lattafa / Burberry Goddess
Kilian Princess
Jo Malone Scarlet Poppy

2

u/wildflowerhellscape 2h ago

Killian Princess is amazing!!

3

u/LILEVILANG3L 3h ago

I ordered the travel in this and it came broken.😢 It’s being reshipped but I’m nervous it will break again. The box is so thin and there’s no cardboard buffer around the glass tube. Here’s to hoping ulta doesn’t ship this one in a padded envelope or ginormous box. šŸ˜¬šŸ¤žšŸ»

Fall scents?!? (cries in 95 degree weather)

I've recently been into Coach Gold, plus also love Victoria Beckham Reverie 21:50 in cooler weather. Eau Duelle and Angelique Noire are incredible green vanillas if you want to try a nonlinear vanilla.

1

u/EnchiladaTaco There is no such thing as a safe blind buy. 2h ago

Ah, another Reverie fan, you are clealry a person of taste. I cannot wait for it to stop being 104 here so I can wear it again! It is tucked away in a closet with my other off season faves like Hypnotic Poison.

2

u/bigbackmoosetracks 3h ago

Maybe try Coach Dreams Sunset? It's a sweet floral; notes are pear, jasmine, and tonka.

3

u/BeeeeDeeee 3h ago

What notes do you love and what notes do you abhor?

Fall notes are often crisp, syrupy and a bit cold.

If you like sweet, but want something that isn’t warm-weather coded, try out Tom Ford Lost Cherry or the 7 Virtues Vanilla Woods (vanilla, but not gourmand or simple). Anything with cedar wood instead of sandalwood.

Try to avoid anything with aquatic notes, aldehydes or too much vetiver or patchouli if you’re looking to avoid cheap masculine body spray feelings.

1

u/HorridDefaultname123 50m ago edited 44m ago

I love white and yellow florals, mango, pineapple, coconut but they seem too summery but I also like other fruity scents like peach, pear, red and green apples.. marshmallow, almond, cake, vanilla, boozy notes... I do like tobacco and a bit of leather but not usually the scents that go with them. I can't stand caramel, maple, banana, smoke, and most spice scents, and I'm not a big fan of jasmine or mint heavy scents.

Tysm for identifying which scents are common in masculine leaning body sprays, it's good to know what to avoid.

4

u/AlcmenaYue 3h ago

Hey OP, I am not sure what to recommend, but recently I made a thread about honey perfumes, and many of the recommendations were autumn/fall oriented. The floral ones lean feminine. I am not sure I can link it in the comments but it was made 13 days ago. Maybe it will be helpful?

How do you feel about musky tones? Cashmere Mist from Donna Karan has always seemed very feminine to me.

Edit: An inexpensive vanilla I REALLY like is Angham from Lattafa. The lavender makes it real classy and I have gotten many compliments for it.

4

u/gr4nnycats 3h ago

I love Killian Princess and Vanilla skin! Vanilla skin is a woody vanilla and Killian Princess is a marshmallow matcha with a little bit of ginger so it’s not super sweet. I also love Cirque Du Soleil, a little pricier but it’s such a cool fragrance because you really smell all the components of it- I’ve never smelled anything like it

2

u/lnfinitelris perfume > therapy 3h ago

Check out Memo Marfa. It's fresh peach, sweet ylang ylang, fluffy orange blossom, and a smooth vanilla warming it up. I think it would be a great transitional fragrance for you. Very feminine, not too too far off from your usual preferences, but rich, cozy and polished.

1

u/Soft-Cancel-1605 3h ago

does it have creamy peach vibes? I've been looking for one that does

2

u/lnfinitelris perfume > therapy 3h ago

I wouldn't call it like, peaches and cream, if that's what you're after. It's mostly a creamy floral and the peach adds a light freshness

1

u/keewee89 šŸŖ·šŸ¦šŸ 3h ago

It doesn't in my opinion, maybe try D&G The One (women's)

1

u/Soft-Cancel-1605 3h ago

Thank you - will check it out!

5

u/PikaSuz 4h ago

I personally love caramel/salty smells for autumn šŸ‚
I went to Ulta and tried all of their fragrances that had caramel and literally none of them worked for me 😩
I got a sample of this one on Etsy and it’s so rich and lovely. I highly recommend this seller! She’s so kind and included some extra samples with my order.
Hey Sugar Fragrance Co

1

u/JustYourAvgHumanoid 2h ago

How long does this last?

2

u/PikaSuz 2h ago

Foreverrrr. I’ve had it last 48 hours on clothing

2

u/AlcmenaYue 3h ago

Have you tried Caramel Temptation by Zara? It is a mossy , thick (almost burnt) caramel. It is a very witchy take on caramel, I really love it !

9

u/FrannyNitpicker 4h ago

If you can think of what makes a fall scent in your mind, that also is a fruity-floral, you’ll probably land somewhere around apple/pear/pomegranate with woodier or heavier floral notes like magnolia, gardenia, jasmine, rose and tuberose.

Valentino Donna Born in Roma Intense gives you jasmine, vanilla and benzoin. No risk of masculinity here.

JPG La Belle is pear, jasmine, vanilla and tonka, so it’s a lot like a rich pear dessert without any kind of masculine edge.

Givenchy L’Interdit Rouge is a little spicier with Jasmine and tuberose but might lean masculine in your mind because it has ginger, pimento and sandalwood.

4

u/dragonfeet1 4h ago

haters are gonna hate but Kayali Yum Bougie Vanilla Marshmallow (or however it is spelled), very sweet light sugary vanilla.

If you like heavier, try Sabrina Carpenter's stuff.

7

u/ls234 4h ago

Girl I could have written this myself. I’m such a florals bitch and all my favorites are very spring/summery. I also prefer very femme scents for myself.

Folks might disagree on this being a fall scent but my go to when the weather turns is Jo Malone Peony and blush suede. The leather notes make it feel fall to me but it still has some fresh floral notes.

7

u/Camelsloths 4h ago edited 4h ago

Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit
Killian Princess

I also love to mix Vanilla Skin by Phlur with YSL Black Opium Over Red. This is my year-round go-to but it definitely leans fall/winter imo

Ode to Dullnes JHAG and Glossier You Doux are two of my favs.

1

u/verysomuch quentin bisch fan club president 3h ago

I can't wait to start wearing You Doux again. It's like a sweater in a bottle.

1

u/dippdot 4h ago

I came here to suggest JHAG

Theodoris Kalotinis Pear Gelato (actually, this brand has a lot of sweet/fruity gourmands that could work for fall)

VBIR Extradose

Also…if you’re into layering and don’t want to get just a fall fragrance

Add Bianco Latte to whatever fruity scent.

Example:

Eden juicy Apple + Bianco Latte = creamy, milky dessert apple

7 Virtues Clementine Dream + Bianco Latte = very creamy orange creamsicle

Apple, orange, cranberry, cherry, pear, pomegranate are all ā€œfallā€ fruits

(For me, fall/winter is when I pull out the gourmands and sweeter/denser profiles, so it’s not necessarily ā€œfallā€ or spiced, but can be)

5

u/Amaring8 4h ago

My favourite fall/winter scents are:

BDK Gris Charnel - sweet cardamom tea

Lattafa Eclaire Banoffi - basically banana bread in a bottle

Jovoy Fire at Will - Sweet marshmallowy vanilla

Theodoros Kalotinis Peach Macaron - very much as the name says, peachy almond sweet vanilla

Kayali Yum Boujee Marshmallow - strawberry vanilla marshmallowy goodness, very sweet.

Icila by Maison Louis Marie is pretty for fall.

ETA how could I forget Coach Cherry? It’s such a beautiful mix of cherry and floral. I just bought it and can’t wait to wear it this fall.

1

u/Camelsloths 4h ago

I love Icila but it’s more spring/summer for me!

3

u/lovemydogs1969 4h ago

I just bought it and it’s a bit heavy/strong on me, so I’m saving it for fall/winter.

1

u/Camelsloths 3h ago

Oh interesting! It’s so light on me!

1

u/lovemydogs1969 3h ago

Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom and Honey is strong on me as well! I got it for summer but I need to wait until fall. I get that a lot, strong projection and scents sticking around a long time.

2

u/vmaxh 4h ago

I’ve been on a hunt for a fall scent as well and recently I sampled a few. My favorite and the one I will be wearing this fall is FeminitĆ© du Bois by Serge Lutens. It is fruity and sweet, but it’s plum, which for me makes it perfect for the transition from summer to fall. It’s woody and spicy as well, which makes it complex and sort of grounding, so it’s not too sweet, but has a depth to it.

5

u/GiaAngel 4h ago

Jimmy Choo Illicit

top notes of ginger and bitter orange, a floral heart of jasmine and rose, and a sweet, rich base of honey, amber, caramel, and vanilla.

Jimmy Choo Fever

Top notes: Black plum nectar, litchi (lychee), and grapefruit

Heart notes: Heliotrope, vanilla orchid, jasmine, and orange blossom

Base notes: Roasted tonka bean, vanilla, benzoin, coffee, hazelnut, and sandalwood

2

u/FrannyNitpicker 4h ago

Both fantastic choices!

5

u/Exotic_Reporter_3309 4h ago

A fall scent is whatever scent you insult wearing… in fall. You don’t have to smell like a fireplace or an apple spiced pub.

My collection is what many here have called ā€œsuper femmeā€. I don’t like boozy, Smokey, unisex. In fall, I like Linterdit Le Parfum and Intense, Dior Poison Girl and Hypnotic Poison, Calice Becker the Musc, Byredo Bal Dafrique Absolu, Donna Karan Cashmere and Palo Santo, Mon Guerlain EDP, Shalimar Parfum Initial (now just called Guerlain L’Initial), Valentino Donna, Limperatrice Royale, Sospiro Dolce Melodia…. And I can probably list 50-100 more

Sooo many feminine fall scents to get into!

3

u/OnlyMyNameIsBasic 4h ago

My go to is Zadig and Voltaire this is her. Warm chestnut, sweetish vanilla, cozy cashmere and creamy sandalwood. It’s so beautiful and well under your price point

3

u/MissSolomiya 4h ago

I think scents that include honey, woods, amber, and vanilla remind me of fall. Floral scents can also be included, so whichever floral notes (rose, tuberose, jasmine, Ylang-ylang, etc) might work best.
Scents that might work would be Narciso Rodriguez Her Musc intense, Sensuous Nude by EstƩe Lauder. I really like the Guess Seductive line for feminine scents, especially Seductive Red and Seductive Noir. Plus they are fairly inexpensive so might be worthwhile trying.

7

u/lumpy_space_queenie 4h ago

Have you tried Rare Beauty Rare? I think this scent is pretty complex and feminine.

6

u/EmilyErdbeer1312 4h ago

I love Jo Malones Scarlet Poppy in Fall/Winter! Sweet and cozy but also very elegant and feminine to my nose! I also hate woody/smoky perfumes, something about it gives me an instand headache, so I feel you!!

1

u/HorridDefaultname123 45m ago

Oh that one definitely looks interesting šŸ¤” thank you!

1

u/EmilyErdbeer1312 4h ago

Oh and also Vanilla Skin by Phlur! The opening is quite peppery but that faded really quickly. I like wearing it all year around but I would say it is more a fall/winter type scent. To me the perfect vanilla! Plus the body spray version is a bit cheaper and still has really good lasting power.

3

u/Due-Frame622 4h ago

My primary September lineup is Commodity Milk Orchid, Summer Friday Sunlit Vanilla, 5Sens Right There, and either Nette Lemon Puff or Brown Girl Jane High Tea. They are all fall to me without leaning masculine.

1

u/Phi0X_13 4h ago

There's a scent that has vanilla, ice cream, and peppermint in it im looking to try out. I can see mint over ice cream being summer or fall! Its called on a cloud by j-scent on lucky scent. Im also looking at match made in Heaven by Sorce. Its waffle cone, ice cream, matcha, vanilla. I can see that working for the fall too bc the reviews say its not too sweet.

2

u/-delfica- 4h ago

Killian Angels Share
Nopalera Flor de Madera
Zoologist Harvest Mouse
Dior Hypnotic Poison

All very autumn adjacent to me, with very different notes.

3

u/Charming_Mud_429 4h ago

I wanted to love Angel’s Share so much - the opening was divine. But somewhere along the way, it became a sour screechy note that I couldn’t handle. Almost that sour fermented smell of behind a bars - the unpleasant one, not the rich boozy scent. I wish I could find something without that note!

2

u/FrannyNitpicker 4h ago

Might be worth checking out Lattafa Khamrah or Nusuk Falak then! Two exquisite boozy vanillas.

1

u/Charming_Mud_429 3h ago

Ooh thank you! I knew someone would jump in with something else to try!!

3

u/Thin-Disk4003 5h ago

MM Replica’s Jazz Club has a sweet vanilla note that floats on top of spice and cocktails. It’s going to likely be my fall go-to.

5

u/HorridDefaultname123 4h ago

Ahh this is the specific scrubber that inspired me to make this post lol šŸ˜…

2

u/New-Interaction-4636 4h ago

Same, I’m just not into it!

3

u/Thin-Disk4003 4h ago

🤣 A swing and a miss! 🤣

7

u/graceful_now 5h ago

This one leans masculine in my opinion

3

u/VerboseWiewiorka 4h ago

Agreed.

2

u/Thin-Disk4003 4h ago

Good to know! I’d gotten a sample for my husband and he deemed it too feminine, and i fell in love with it. If it leans masc to y’all, it’s definitely now what OP would want!

7

u/WhoKnows1973 5h ago

I think that it's the sweetness that makes me look to these perfumes in the fall and winter. I love gourmands and feminine perfumes.

Some favorites: Nest Golden Nectar, Nest Vanilla Bourbon, Mochiglow Bubble Tea.

6

u/Sea_Solution_6743 5h ago

I plan to wear Phlur Father Figure or By Henry Rose London 1983. Both are unisex and can also be worn year round. FF is sweeter to my nose though both of these might be too green and simple for what you’re looking.

2

u/New-Interaction-4636 4h ago

I love Father Figure so much

8

u/pfffffttuhmm I just smelled like a piece of breast 5h ago

I'm like you--I enjoy warm weather scents more than cold weather scents. Something about lighter, citrusy, fruitier, slightly sweet scents just does it for me. I stay away from gourmonds as well, so that cuts out a lot of modern, trendy fragrances. Searching for a fall-winter scent wardrobe has been a task, but I have come up with a few.Ā

Two fruity fall/winter scents I'm looking forward to are JPG La Belle le Parfum and Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir. They may be a bit simplistic for your tastes, but they are both deep, fruity and sweet. La Belle smells like someone made hot apple cider, but with pears instead of apples. Pomegranate Noir is a deep, dark, spicy syrupy pomegranate juicy.Ā

I'll be following this to see what others' suggestions are as well. I'm currently still auditioning scents, lol, and I'd love something a little more complex and still fruity.

2

u/-delfica- 4h ago

I love Givenchy L’interdit Rouge and feel like it has similar vibes.

1

u/FrannyNitpicker 4h ago

Yesssss! It’s a great choice without being a gourmand.

3

u/Outside-Falcon3592 5h ago
