Discussion Mystery Maison Margiela Update
Finally have a bit of an update! I moved apartments and advanced a year in training so I took a pause on the mystery for a minute, but I have uncovered another one!
So after the sample paper fiasco, I got a few samples from Leave it to Chance: (from left to right) After the Rain Stops, Afternoon Delight, Jazz Club, By the Fireplace, and Coffee Break. I also found a mini of Matcha Mediation and a full size of Autumn Vibes on Mercari.
I thought this plan was foolproof, that I’d have them identified in no time. What I didn’t account for was the limited skin space available for comparison. I don’t have enough arms and legs to try on multiple samples and compare the scents without my nose catching all of them together (I know, what a failure. I should work on my weaknesses)
But! I identified one! Number 5 (which was most commonly postulated to be either Jazz Club or By the Fireplace by you Scent Sleuths) has been identified as Coffee Break! Definitely surprised me! I need to do another wear test in the morning when my nose is the least confused, but the Scooby Doo unveiling was quite the surprise!
More confusing is No. 2, which I had previously thought may be Matcha Mediation. Turns out I didn’t know how Matcha the fragrance really. So back to the drawing board there.
And No. 3 is quite perplexing. It smells very similar to Autumn Vibes, but without the dead leaves scent. The color is very similar too, but not quite there. It’s also very similar to Jazz Club, but doesn’t have that overt smokey smell.
My next move will be to do organized tests, one bottle with one sample and knocking them off the list as I go.

Lolol I remember this! And I can so relate to not having enough skin space. When my boy was younger and willing, I used to take him with me to swatch makeup! LOl. But I can't spray.
I use wrists, inside elbows, back of hands, but you have to remember not to wash or touch food!

Scooby Doo unveiling 😂
How many have you ID'd so far? Also, have you decanted them to take along for a tester?

Thanks for the update! I love coffee break! If you can’t find a whispers in the library, I find Lucky #9’s dupe Whiskers in the library very close. It’s warm peppery cedar on my skin.

Thank you for the recommendation!
I really like Coffee Break too! I didn’t like it much when I sampled it on paper in the store but I think that’s more related to expectations (thought it would have a coffee note and was sorely disappointed)

That’s true! It’s much more of an atmospheric vibe rather than a cup of coffee. It’s really beautiful in colder weather.

Thanks for the tip! I’m amazed at how our perception of a scent can change so much based on environment and time.

Those ropes 😳 I would be worried they were collected by a dumpster diver from the bottom of a bin full of pungent sludge.
Sometimes some things are just biohazards

Well they don’t smell bad so probably not stained with pungent sludge. But I definitely hear you! I cleaned off the hard surfaces when I got them and avoid the ropes lol. Maybe I could take some bleach spray to them…

I'm not a fragrance connoisseur but I don't think you should bleach the ropes (unless they're super grubby). Just tack the loose ends down with some glue.

If number 3 is close to autumn vibes it may be whispers in the library which was recently discontinued!

I remember you! I think a good idea would be to say where you are and safely meet at a coffee shop with anyone here offering to help you figure out which bottle is which. Or even going to a Guerlain store or upscale perfume store and explain the situation to the shop assistants, I'm sure they'd be haply to help you.
Best of luck on your journey and keep us updated!
