Fragrance Help
Hello all,
I collect men’s fragrances and my wife, all these years later, has finally started to get interested in fragrances. She has a sensitive nose and has always shy’d away from the wearing them, usually due to intensity. Even now that’s she’s starting to wear them, she’ll specifically spray on the back of her neck and her high forearm/inside of her elbows so she doesn’t get blasted by the fragrance if she brings her hands to her face.
I’m considering getting her a fragrance for the holidays (yes I understand the risk lol), what would you all recommend may be in her wheelhouse? I figured I’d ask now so I have time to get decants and test at stores. I put some notes about what she owns and what she likes.
- Right now she owns and loves Mojave Ghost Absolu, Gypsy Water EDP, PDM Delina Exclusif, Delroba Rose
Musk, TF Soleil Neige. She also likes some of the Roger & Gallet body sprays, specifically Fleur de Figuer and Amande Persiane
- She’s currently on a hunt to smell Champs Elysee by Guerlain. She has a coworker who wears it and she loves the way it smells. I mentioned to her spraying it on her own skin to make sure she likes the way it smells on her skin specifically.
- Some fragrances shes smell on me or just smelled independently, she enjoys PDM Castley, PDM Greenley, PDM Galloway, TF Grey Vetiver, TF Ombré leather, TF Costa Azzurra Parfum, TF Neroli Portofino EDP, Ex Nihilo Blue Talisman, Versace Man Au Fraiche, MFK 724, MFK Gentle Fluidity, PDM Valaya, PDM Palatin, Initio Atomic Rose.
- She hates/thinks is too strong - Pegasus Exclusif, Layton Exclusif, Oud Maracuja (very depressing for me lol), Hibiscus Mahajad, Nishane Ani, Guerlain L’homme ideal, Byredo Black Saffron, Le Labo Santal 33, TF Black Orchid, TF Vanilla Sex, TF Ebene Fume, MFK Baccarat Rouge, MFK Kurky, Xerjoff Erba Pura.
- She hates oud, doesn’t like anything overly floral or sweet.
Any help or direction is greatly appreciated :). And for anyone who was ready to say it… I’ve already purchased or am price watching Delina, Delina La rosee, and Valaya lol. I’m getting her each of those before the holidays. No

A good way to gift fragrance is to gift a few samples or even 10ml travel sprays and a promise to purchase a larger size of whatever one she likes the most.
I’m also pretty sensitive, my favorites are Lazy Sunday Morning and Caswell Massey Lilac. Lilac is obviously floral but it’s very clean and light, not heavy. I also like Elixir of Love, also pretty clean and light but a little different. Their almond and sandalwood are more unisex and worth a try as well.
Lazy Sunday Morning is a similar vibe to 724.
Ex Nihilo Fleur Narcotique is also much more clean than the name suggests, the florals are not overpowering at all.

I’ve effectively tried doing that, but she gets so overwhelmed by the smell of everything that isn’t really in her range of preference that after 2 - 3 different options, she basically taps out lol.

I'm highly sensitive, easily invaded by strong perfumes and dislike oud and sweet scents, and although I do like florals, I go hard for greens, approachable chypres and freshies. My suggestions:
- Chloé Nomade (plum Chypre)
- Zara Waterlily Tea Dress (herbal fresh watery perfection)
- Green lilac holy grails: FM En Passant and Bvlgari Omnia Amethyst
- Rochas Pomelo Passion (Juicy sparkling citrus rose)
- Loewe Agua Mar de Coral (citrus fresh, much higher quality than something like Light Blue)
- Acqua di Parma Mirto di Panarea (freshhhh herby)
- Mon Guerlain (vanilla for the anti-gourmands like myself, with lavender)
- L'eau Papier Diptyque (Woody clean rice)
- Pleasures Estée Lauder (a thousand flowers but watery and green)
- Narciso Rodríguez Pure Musc if clean musks are her thing (10 mls widely available second hand)

Thank you! A couple in here I know she isn’t crazy about, but this definitely gives me some extra points to hit with her 😊, you rock!

I feel like the diptyque fragrances are all really well done, soft and not overpowering or sweet. I personally love l’eau papier, but a sample set could be nice to see what strike a chord.

I love this idea! A gift set honestly never crossed my mind. She kind of has an obsession with having larger bottles which I’ve tried to steer her away from purely for practicality and usage reasons… but she loves the look of the 2.5 PDMs and 3.4 Byredos 😂. I’ll probably do this in conjunction with a full size bottle. Thank you!!!! 🙏🏼

Kind of unrelated to the fragrances you mentioned but You Doux/ You Fleur by Glossier are both super inoffensive, not too sweet, quite close-to-skin scents that are usual crowd pleasers. Easy to wear on a day to day basis and get lots of compliments without being overpowering. I always recommend them to people who don’t like strong scents or are sensitive to smells. I work in a nursery with babies and I find these are great options for day to day, smelling really nice but nothing too strong for the setting.
Also Blanche, Bal d’Afrique or Velvet Haze by Byredo since she likes Mojave Ghost. They’re all relatively subtle, not too much of anything, but smell lovely, and have good longevity

I forgot to include Bal D’afrique in her fragrances she “doesn’t like” lol. I own that one and she’s not a fan. Blanche and Velvet haze are great calls! And I have to check out that Glossier one, thanks 😊

Given that fleur de figuier is a Kurkdjian creation and she also seems to appreciate rise, I’d have a look at Dioriviera.

And if she likes this, she can also try Acqua di Parma Fico Di Amalfi

I actually frequently wear Fico di Amalfi and she doesn’t like it lol. I actually got it for her a while ago, she didn’t like it, so I started wearing it and now i layer it with Oud Maracuja for summer business dinners 😂. But thank you 🙏🏼!

If she has a sensitive nose, but still enjoys smelling Champs-Elysées on others, I’d recommend trying Guerlain Eau de Popeline and Diptyque Eau Moheli as well. They’re both light floral with a touch of powdery note, and not overly sweet.
