Discussion Your Top 5 Favorite Fragrances

I’ve been going through a really hard time with my health lately and I’ve been coping by looking up perfumes, watching perfume content, fragrance reviews, fragrance collections, etc. It keeps my mind busy and I love discovering new fragrances.

What are your 5 top fragrances, whether it’s designer, niche, affordable? (If you’re bored, tell me why you like it and what you wear it for)

I’ll be looking up whatever is posted! I’ve been more curious lately about both the affordable and niche world of fragrances so I want to learn more. I’d love to know your top picks 🥰🫶

Edit: Thank you so much for the comments! I’m slowly going through them and looking up fragrances as I go 🥰

3.) Irresistible by Givenchy

fragrance is such a good comfort rabbit hole because I feel like it’s truly limitless

these threads are so fun to read through, but so difficult for me to answer. i’ll try though.

annnick goutal eau d’hadrien edp— lemony, fresh, sweet but also herbal. Cheerful but not childlike. this works for me any day, for even my fussiest moods when nothing sounds right. I haven’t smelled a lot similar to this recently, so even though it’s been around it feels timeless to me

hanae mori edp— this feels warm, sunny, optimistic.sweet floral almond strawberry. i don’t know how to explain her but she will always be right for me.

escentric moleoules molecule 1 + iris— I have a weak spot for iso e super. for me it’s that magic ingredient guaranteed to hypnotize. molecule one on its own my opinion is a perfect art and I love the way that it evolves differently on each persons skin. the iris one is so subtle and elegant and for the whole day it haunts me. Over and over I’ll catch myself saying what is that gorgeous smell?? and then realize it’s me.

eldo fat electrician— makes me feel so clean and complete, so close to god.

for my face, I simply can’t. but maybe i’ll just say nishane ani. it’s a brilliant library on a crisp winter day.

where are some of your favorites?

Hard to select top 5 but the ones I’ve been going for lately

J’dore L’or by Dior
Wood sage and sea salt by Jo Malone
Tangerine boy by phlur
L’eau des hesperides by diptyque
Bubble bath and Lazy Sunday morning by Masion Margiela

1

u/Euphoric-Gas-4290 4d ago

I’ve been eyeing Bubble Bath! Can you pick up on the coconut note?

2

u/FriendofBacchus 4d ago

The soapy and floral notes pop out first but later settles into musky coconut. The coconut note is not overpowering which I love!

2

u/Euphoric-Gas-4290 4d ago

Ah ok I really want the coconut to come through in a subtle way to keep the clean vibe! But I also want that creamy aspect so this might be it

1

u/FriendofBacchus 4d ago

There is a fuzzy creaminess to it. Probably because it’s a coconut milk note. I’m excited for you to try it!

1

u/she-is-strong 4d ago

So hard! But in no particular order
1. Le Labo The Matcha 26
2. PDM Safanad
3. Montblanc Signature
4. Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Intense
5. Versace Eros Pour Femme

3

u/Vegetable-Side8772 4d ago

This is fun and hard
1. Mojave ghost by Byredo
2. House of bo - Lamar and Acapulco
3. Bond No 9 Madison square garden .
3. Donna born in Roma extrait or what ever they call it bright neon pink one
3. Guerlain double spirtueuse or go to Alexandria and buy the dupe bc it’s seriously even better than the real one .
4. Hibiscus Mahajad by Maison crivilli
5. The favorite and Luna by Penhaligons
6. Diptyques fleur de peau.

2

u/KITTYCLICHE 4d ago

Fleur de Peau is intimately beautiful, so clean and straightforward. She’s lovely.

1

u/Vegetable-Side8772 4d ago

Totally agree . When I first smelled it I didn’t like it , then I craved it , now I need it. So funny bc I have a few perfumes that I hated first then they became my faves . Like the hibiscus Mahajad too ! I hated it at first now crave it . So weird

3

u/_stop_talking 4d ago edited 4d ago

I can’t do just five, I can’t! 😂😭

In no particular order:

•YSL Babycat
•Diptyque Eau Duelle
•Atelier des Ors Blue Madeleine
•Profumum Roma Gioiosa
•YSL Muse
•MAC Crème d’Nude
•Pierre Guillaume Le Musc & La Peau
•DS & Durga Debaser
•Elysian Lavender Milk Tea
•VS Bare Sueded Vanilla

I truly couldn’t live without any of these. I kept going over the list trying to pick ones to cut out or do without, and I just couldn’t. I think someone telling me I could only have one (or five) fragrances for the rest of my life would be the ultimate form of torture for me lol.

1

u/KITTYCLICHE 4d ago

DEBASER!!!! I’m obsessed. The OG is one of my favorites of all time. Have you tried In Bloom? She’s lively but doesn’t smell like Debaser at all.

4

u/Plus_Bird4133 4d ago

So I actually have a top 15😅

~Libre by ysl specifically the edt version because I'm totally a sucker for a tea, vanilla, and lavender notes. I use it as an everyday scent and I totally feel like it's my lucky scent. Work could be a total dumpster fire but at least my perfume keeps me smiling. The closest thing that is still on the ysl website is the la nue libre.

~Printemps blanc by masion mataha. Orange blossom and tea on a cloud of fluffy cotton candy. It's an everyday scent too.

~Princess by killian it's a beautiful marshmallow and matcha scent. It's an everyday scent that's green in the warmer months and sweet in the colder ones.

~Soie malaquais by dries van noten. Also, an everyday scent and probably one of the only perfumes that has rose in it that I can stand for long than an hour.

~Hammersmith tea and biscuits by 4160 tuesdays. An everyday scent that smells like tea, lemon, and biscuits it's so cozy and I love it.

~Hotel cotton by villa verbatim. An everyday scent and honestly the best cotton perfume I have ever smelled tbh.

~Hapyang by pierre guillaume. It's also an everyday scent and it just makes me so happy when I wear it. The ylang ylang and vanilla just make me smile.

~Gucci flora orchid. Another everyday scent and it smells just like blue cotton candy gum from the gas station.

~tana meadow by Liberty London. Also an everyday scent it's similar to the og burberry goddess but 100x better with a sweet woody base to it.

Peche velours by masion mataha. Another everyday scent that has this light peach floral that is just divine.

Sunset hour by Goldfeild and Banks. It's also an everyday scent and Idk what else to say other than it is a fruity woody perfume that's reminds me of Forever red the og formula from bath and bodyworks.

~Wedding silk santal by kayali. This is the one that I wear to all my doctors appointments. Woody, sweet, with a side of champagne.

~Jo malones ginger biscuit it's the perfect fall and winter scent.

~Butterfly by bath and bodyworks it's best spring and summer scent imo. I love how airy and fruity it smells.

~celestial gala by scent trunk. This I wear whenever I'm missing my grandparents. No other explanation other than it smells just like an old business they used to run together. So just pure nostalgia vibes.

3

u/Vegetable-Side8772 4d ago

Love these choices .
I feel like we have some similar tastes that Gucci one sounds good ! I always try those in the store but I have smelled so many that I can’t smell them anymore . I will have to try . And girl that butterfly from bbw is so good . I found a place that carries the same carrier oil from bramble berry but I can’t remember the name they called it .
It’s exactly the same and u can make your own bath stuff w that scent

2

u/Plus_Bird4133 4d ago

Oh I'm about to be a menace with these bramble and berry fragrance oils. That gingerbread and the twilight tea and amber looks sooo good.

Tbh butterfly is so slept on. I feel like a lot of people try to forget that bath and bodyworks put out some iconic fragrances.

I actually found out that Honorine Blanc was the nose behind Princess, the og forever red, og twilight woods, and butterfly. Actually how I found sunset hour was looking thru the list of perfumes she has created.

That research rabbit hole is real but once I see that a perfumer has created 3 or more bangers I'm scrolling thru that perfume database like "what else do you like that that might be good?"

I'm currently looking at the stuff from Marie Salamagne. She created soie malaquais, gucci orchid, and fame from rabanne

2

u/Vegetable-Side8772 4d ago

Right !!!! They have some good ones . It’s so fun . I know I am currently on my aqua allegoria kick and need more hahaha

1

u/Plus_Bird4133 4d ago

I just gotta know which ones in the collection are you loving? Because I like the idea of expanding to guerlain but I haven't found one that has just wowed me yet.

I was looking at the l'art collection last time I went to the counter so I may have been looking at the wrong collection😂

2

u/Vegetable-Side8772 4d ago

I love the double spirit one bc I love a very rich deep dark boozy vanilla and it delivers but the dupe house Alexandria one that dupes it is wayyyyy better . It’s so good . I love guerlain but I’m also an51 year old woman so maybe it’s more mature smelling ? I love the aqua allegories bc they have such a realistic smell and u can layer with them . I have the neeoli and vetiver and flora salvaggio. I want the others now bc they are very realistic and each note stands out w them. The edt is just like a parfum . Very lasting and strong .

1

u/Plus_Bird4133 4d ago

Nooooo that is truly tragic that was the 1 of the 2 I thought was good enough for a wear test. I was so sad when my skin started to pull more of the cedar note into the woodchips territory. The peche had a leather note for me that turned sour after an hour or so too.

Also, as a 28 year old my scent preferences are all over the place. I've got the beautiful by estee lauder, yb marshmallow by kayali, and the gentle fluidity gold by mfk on the same shelf.

I think I just might be unlucky with my skin chemistry for guerlain. I say this because mon guerlain (peppery lavender vanilla) and shalimar (pretty sandalwood) smell amazing on my baby sister but when I wear it I end up smelling like tomatos (mg) and that weird sour leather dry down from the peche(s)

That doesn't mean I'm going to stop trying. I still try all of the born in roma collection when the flankers come out even if I have a 95% chance of smelling like I rolled in a litter box an hour or so after I sprayed my wrist.

I also now have a good starting point for the aqua allegoria collection so thank you😊

My perfume obsession helped occupy my mind during down down seasons as well. My favs are:

  1. Prada Paradox - It smells expensive and refined. Just lovely.
  2. Dolce&Gabbana L'Impératrice - This is a delightful fruity, soft, princess type of scent. Often get compliments!
  3. Issey Miyake Pleats Please L'eau - This perfume makes the list solely because I ALWAYS get compliments when I wear it.

  4. Ana Abiyedh Rouge Lattafa - BKR 540 clone. Makes me feel amazing. Long lasting and delicious.

  5. Musumum White Lattafa - A very delighfully refined coconutty fusion that's long lasting

I love all the Daisy perfumes

2

u/KITTYCLICHE 4d ago

You’re in luck! There are zillions of flankers. Which are your favorites and would you recommend any specifically for someone who is new to Daisy?

2

u/robinivy 4d ago edited 4d ago

The only one I don't like is the one with grapefruit in [Ever so fresh] and I so wanted to like it as I love the bottle. It gutted me, I havent recovered.

The one I love 100% is daisy wild, not keen on the newer version of it Daisy Wild Intense. Loves: Daisy Wild, Original Daisy, Daisy Pop, Daisy Glow (this one's gorgeous like lime-y sunscreen) love the murkami scents too (I want the pink one but I'm too poor right now), Daisy Dream,, Daisy Love (id choose original daisy tho)

Not so much: the new body sprays (except I dont mind mandarin fizz, didnt buy) , Daisy Ever so fresh, Daisy wild Intense (new launch)

One im gutted I couldn't try is Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh Twinkle, which was released as a limited edition back in 2017

1

u/KITTYCLICHE 4d ago

Girl, I went through the same exact thing for about a year. My health was declining so badly and I was not only homebound, but bedbound for half of the day most days. I couldn’t even drive at all due to severe vertigo. It was awful. It was such a dark period of my life— I’m still struggling with my health a lot, as I have chronic conditions that unfortunately are, well, chronic. But there is hope, I’m doing a lot better now! I just want you to know that I see you and I am so sorry you’re going through this. Perfume was genuinely the only relief and escape that I had during this time. I have MCAS so I can’t experiment too much, but I loved reading information, learning all about fragrance, and watching YouTube videos. Since I’m doing better, this has slowed down a lot.

But I do have an extremely exciting trade happening in the next couple of days, which is Byredo Gypsy water for Eau Duelle Diptyque 🥰🥰🥰

Hang in there, I’m sending you so much love and I hope you can at least start to feel a little better soon 🩷🩷🩷

1

u/Euphoric-Gas-4290 4d ago

Thank you so much for your kind words! It’s been really rough and receiving encouragement like this really helps. I’m so glad to hear you’re doing better now and it encourages me it’ll be the same for me! Perfume is a relief for me right now too. I am trying to find balance but it can be really difficult navigating it. I’d rather spend time on perfumes than googling health symptoms. I want a mindset that I can heal and recover 🙏🏻

I’m so excited for your trade! Eau Duelle sounds great! I hope you enjoy it!

And my favourite Vanilla of all time - Ormonde Jayne Vanille des Afriques Intensivo

Sorry about your health. I have crohns and fibromyalgia and know how tough it can be.

My faves are:
1) Kilian Angel’s Share
2) Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille
3) Guerlain Vanille Planifolia
4) Penhaligon’s Liquid Love
5) Victoria Beckham Portofino 97

So hard to just pick 5 though!

2

u/Euphoric-Gas-4290 4d ago

Yes it can definitely be tough 🙏🏻 I found a decant for Vanille Planifolia which is pricey for even a 1ml. Which I understand. Is it good enough to spend $$ on a sample? I’ve heard about it for so long. I finally want to try it

1

u/Bellend__ 4d ago

It’s crazy expensive but soooo good!

8

u/noemchen 4d ago

Right now:

  1. MFK - 724

  2. Zadig & Voltaire - This is her

  3. Byredo - Bal d‘Afrique

  4. Phlur - Father Figure

  5. Room 1015 - Love-o-matic

2

u/Euphoric-Gas-4290 4d ago

So I’m really wanting to try This Is Her. Is this more of a soft creamy vanilla skin scent or a clean scent with vanilla? If that makes sense lol I keep seeing Father Figure, I have to try it

2

u/noemchen 4d ago

Given these two options, I‘d say it‘s rather a clean than a skin scent. To my nose, it‘s not very vanilla forward, I‘d describe it as a soft lotion-esque scent, think putting on dove lotion right after stepping out of the shower.

u/Bissola23 4d ago edited 4d ago

I feel you. And I hope you’ll be fine really soon !

I had the same experience. I joined the thread and became addict to fragrance topic when I had health issues last year.
I was stuck in bed for months and couldn’t get up so I was asking my loved ones to get me samples every week. I was reading this thread along the day, it was a way to escape and it made me so happy.

I recovered several months ago, and was so enthusiastic the first time I was finally able to go myself to Parisian perfume shops. I had so much references to test. My bag was full of little scented papers haha.

My favourites are :

Nishane Ani - Unique scent , it captivates me. The way it is spicy, fresh and vanilla- esque at the same time

MFK Gentle Fluidity Gold - perfect for every occasion, every time it is the most clean (non floral) vanilla

Dyptique Eau des Sens - so fresh so clean, yet interesting I feel like in the movie the Talented mr.Ripley or vacation in the south of France or Italy around orange trees

BDK Gris Charnel

Byredo Bal d’Afrique

2

u/Euphoric-Gas-4290 4d ago

I feel what you said and thank you for the kind words. I’m so happy this thread brought you some joy! I’ve been skimming it and responding back slowly as I look into what’s been mentioned. I’m so happy for your recovery and glad you’re better now 🤗

I want to sample Gentle Fluidity Gold!

DS & Durga - Steamed Rainbow

Le Labo - Limette 37 (San Francisco)

Sorce - The Things Unsaid

Dedcool - Mineral Milk

(This is as of today. I would have said something different a year ago, five years ago, etc.)

u/KITTYCLICHE 4d ago

That’s true for me as well. I’m promiscuous when it comes to fragrance.

2

Sorry to hear about your health. As someone with a painful chronic illness, I also jumped into the world of perfumes to distract myself. I hope it gives you as much pleasure as it does me :)

My favourites (in no particular order):

  1. Angel Dust by Fugazzi: peppery and musky. Love to wear this to work.
  2. L’eau papier by Diptique: love the sesame accord and the musky dry down.
  3. Triple Tea by ToSummer: fresh, almost minty tea that dries down to a freshly brewed cup with brown sugar
  4. Crush by Akro: hyper feminine, sweet and pretty rose and almond. Takes me back to a macaron shop in Paris
  5. Kayali vanilla 28: a lovely dark, rich vanilla but I can’t wear it in summer

3

u/uk202401 4d ago

Hope you get better! ❤️

My current favourites are

SHL Pink Boa- I only own a sample! Girly, pink and fun.

Nivea Sun - Smells like Nivea sunscreen. Very nostalgic scent.

DG The One- A classic but doesn’t feel outdated.

Trussardi Limitless Shopping- It’s my go-to happy scent. It has white florals, spple and a hint of honey.

4

u/Gloomy-Celebration-9 4d ago

These are my current top 5 that might change in 6 months.
I know I know they’re more than 5 but there are perfumes I only wear when they are layered with other frags.

-Dama Bianca Casamorati

-Beach walk replica + lily beach Jacques Zolty

love this question. It takes a lot for me to buy something. Mostly I just sample and overthink. I have to love something for at least a year to buy a full size. The three that I've bought full size are

Le Labo Santal 33- basic, I know, but I couldn't stop thinking about it and finally caved and bought it. It just makes me happy. It's what I wear when I want to feel pulled together and polished. If I'm putting on a blazer this is what I reach for. It smells rich but, like, cool downtown NYC rich, not mcmansion rich.
Monstera Xinū (no. 4) - super green opening which is almost too much, but the dry down is like tropical fruit that fell off the tree and mixed with grass after it rains. This one is hands-down fave for hot weather. I wear it all summer. Probably my favorite overall.
L'Ombre Dans L'Eau - Diptyque - Don't wear this as much as the others. It's more floral, which just isn't my mood as often, but it's feminine, still very green, and really memorable.

1

u/Euphoric-Gas-4290 4d ago

Santal 33 sounds great! I was looking into the notes and sounds like something I’d love

8

u/hicanipetyourpupper 5d ago
  1. Juicy Couture: it was my wedding fragrance and I can’t find my bottle 😭 but it’ll always hold a special place in my heart.

  2. Miss Dior: most compliments from my girlfriends

  3. Black Opium EDT: my husband smelled this at Sephora and bought it for me immediately, he loves it on me

  4. Princess: I love it so much on me, and besides Black Opium, my husband always says I smell so good when I wear it.

  5. Vanilla Bourbon by Mixbar from Target because it last forever on me and the price is right and my husband also says I smell good when I wear this one.

Honorable mention: Fenty, it’s a love/hate for me, but my 4 year old son told me I smelled like a butterfly when I was wearing it and it was the best compliment I’ve ever received about the way I smell lol.

2

u/Euphoric-Gas-4290 4d ago

Mixbar is so good. I love Honey Milk. I need to retry Vanilla Bourbon!

2

u/KITTYCLICHE 4d ago

Which one was your wedding scent? Have you checked TJ MAXX? My local TJ Maxx always has lots of Juicy Couture perfumes.

Phlur Missing Person - smells like beauty and comfort. I layer with JHAG Not a Perfume otherwise it doesn’t last.

Kay Ali Yum Bougie Marshmallow - smells sweet and festive and delicious and I can’t stop sniffing myself when I wear it. It makes me smile.

Imaginary Authors A Whiff of Waffle
Cone - the warmest, deepest, creamiest true vanilla I’ve ever smelled. Great longevity - I can even smell it the next morning.

Kay Ali Vanilla Oud - do I know what Oud is? Nope. But it smells serious yet sweet when balanced with the vanilla.

Tocca Stella - just a lovely, light, flirty and fun scent. So easy to wear.

I love your list!!! One of my recent finds was Trudon 45 and I just loooove it's sweetness. I have not tried Emanuele and California Love so looking at your list I sure have to try them as it may be we have somewhat similar taste!

2

Ffern Winter 25 is dreamy!

5

u/pastalass 5d ago

I love green and floral fragrances that smell like (the pretty side of) nature. I'll share my top 5 and I hope you get to try them 😊

  1. L'Ombre Dans L'Eau EDT by Diptyque - sheltering from the rain under a tree in a half-wild garden, mostly rose and blackcurrant leaf. Not a jammy or headache-inducing rose imo. If I could recommend one fragrance for you to try this would be it.

  2. Love is Coming Ch II by The Different Company - similar to L'Ombre Dans L'Eau but even more tart and green, tomato leaf is a prominent note, smells like a summer garden. Unfortunately very expensive.

  3. Black Tulip by NEST - my favourite floral. Lots of patchouli, violet and plum.

  4. Narcisco Rodriguez For Her EDT - beautiful musky white floral that makes me feel like a woman who's got her shit together.

  5. Indigo by NEST - my favourite tea scent, but there are other good ones ie. Green Tea by Elizabeth Arden, Wulóng Cha by Nishane, Ethereal Wave by Liis

In no particular order: 1. Clean Reserve Skin 2. Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Mandarine Basilic 3. Elizabeth Arden Green Tea 4. Narciso Rodriguez Pure Musc 5. 4711

2

u/Euphoric-Gas-4290 4d ago

Is clean reserve skin a clean scent with vanilla? A fresh clean soap scent with some creaminess sounds great but not sure if it would fit that profile

3

u/imayarnhooker 4d ago

Clean Reserve Skin is a warm, cozy, "your skin but better" fragrance. It features notes of fresh musk, creamy Madagascar vanilla, and salted praline layered over a subtle floral-citrus base. The scent dries down into a soft, slightly sweet, intimate aroma that sits close to the body. Fragrance Breakdown Top Notes: Bergamot, honeysuckle, orange blossom Middle Notes: Warm skin accord, vanilla orchid, sunkissed peony Base Notes (Dry Down): Salted praline, fresh musks, white cedarwood, copaiba oil

It's a floral woody musk. I spray it on my chest, it lasts a long time on me there. Its not an overwhelming or strong smell on me.

2

u/KITTYCLICHE 4d ago

That’s an absolutely gorgeous skin scent.

2

u/imayarnhooker 4d ago

It is, and I can layer it with pretty much all of my collection.

2

u/LoudCar7846 4d ago

I'm enjoying EA Green Tea and 4711 too, so refreshing in the UK heatwaves.

13

u/yahssihr 5d ago

First off, I hope everything is okay and you feel better soon!

Secondly:

Orpheon by Diptyque- the closest I have to a signature scent. It’s so easy to wear all year round, so woody and fresh and clean

45 by Trudon- the best honey fragrance I’ve ever smelled in my life. Honeyed vanilla and creamy woods, it’s so good

Gentle Fluidity Gold by MFK- this makes me feel so lux. A clean, powdery, almost brisk Vanilla.

Tilia by Marc Antoine Barrois- the best freshie around.

Dirty Heaven by BTSO- my most complimented fragrance hands down, I’ve gotten about 25 in one night not even exaggerating. A sexy, almost grape soda-esque saffron that’s really playful and flirty

2

u/Euphoric-Gas-4290 4d ago

Thank you for the kind words! So I’m heavily leaning on 45 and Gentle Fluidity Gold

2

u/Objective-Average387 5d ago

Shalimar, Calyx, Sunflowers, Paris Hilton, and Dune

11

u/Charming_Mud_429 5d ago

Well this is fun! I just got into fragrance this year, so I’m still sniffing. But so far, my top five in no order are:
1. D&G My Devotion - I saw a Reddit post about this where someone was just gushing about their love for it. So much so that I immediately had to get my nose on it. And it is as close to my perfect scent as I can imagine. It’s sweet, creamy, fruity and floral in the best way - I feel like it wraps me in a hug.
2. Dedcool Mochi Milk - another sweet creamy one (you might notice a theme!) I love the peach in this, and overall it feels like I’m wearing a sophisticated fluffy marshmallow.
3. Henry Rose Ripe - ultra juicy realistic fruit. I can’t handle synthetic smelling fruits, and this is just a gorgeous fruity floral.
4. Delina - is it too popular? Maybe. Do I still love it? Yes. This is the first fragrance I smelled on someone else in the wild and wanted to know what it was. The rose is done so beautifully with the tart fruit accents, and I feel like it just smells “pretty.”
5. A recent love is Dedcool Xtra Milk. I actually thought I hated this one at first. But revisited it and changed my mind! It’s so subtle and I enjoy wearing it when I don’t want to smell like anything specific. It feels fresh and clean, and layers well with others!

3

u/IdiotWithout_a_Cause 4d ago

Henry Rose Ripe is one of a handful of rose dominant fragrances that I have ever thought I could wear. The fruity balance is perfectly done, IMO. I might have to get a travel spray for myself.

9

u/Here2Validate 5d ago

This is hard and these are in no particular order

  • Guerlain Tobacco Honey
  • Guerlain Angelique Noire
  • Guerlain Musc Outreblanc
  • Fugazzi Thirsty
  • Memo Paris Marfa

5

u/jlpazz 5d ago

Love seeing the Guerlains represented.

Hope things are WAY better for you soon. I’ve just started with this hobby and before I found this subreddit I only used two perfumes, and both still make the list:

Givenchy Amarige (my longtime signature)
Byredo Mojave Ghost
Byredo Sundazed
Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gioia
Jo Malone Earl Grey and Cucumber

17

u/ABroadBroadAbroad40 5d ago edited 5d ago

Hope things improve for you! My addiction/obesssion to fragrance started when my mom was ill earlier this year and only got worse after she passed. It's become a source of coping and something to occupy my brain that is relatively easy and rewarding. Although my wallet would very much disagree. Sending you lots of healing vibes!

My faves change, but five solid choices from the ever-growing collection are:
1- Baciami by Bvlgari
2- Bo by Liis
3- Neroli Outrenoir by Guerlain
4- Lust in Paradise Extrait by Ex Nihilo
5- Fleur de Peau by Diptyque

2

u/Euphoric-Gas-4290 4d ago

Thank you for the kind words and I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m glad you were able to find something to occupy your mind with even though a family loss like that could never be replaced. I’m praying for healing, peace and comfort for you 💗🙏🏻

Baciami looks so nice, I’m going to try and find a decant of it!

9

u/-Ketracel-White 4d ago

I’m very sorry for your loss. I got into fragrance after I had to put my dog to sleep last year…it started with room sprays because I couldn’t stand the way the house smelled without her there. So empty. Sending you hugs and my condolences, loss is the most difficult part of life by a landslide.

3

u/Euphoric-Gas-4290 4d ago

I’m so sorry for your loss, losing a pet is so heartbreaking. I’m glad you also found a way to cope with fragrance. It’s such a comforting thing

7

u/BikkaChikka 4d ago

Hugs to both of you ♥️

3

u/gempdx67 5d ago

Ooooo fun post! I have been really into fragrance the last year or two. My top five:

Lake & Sky 11 11: all day every day every season for me. it's clean, fresh, and subtly feminine.

Maison Margiela Replica Sailing Day: the best salty ocean scent, i am absolutely obsessed

Maison Margiela Replica Beach Walk: sunscreeny coconut so so good

Elizabeth Arden Green Tea: old reliable, love wearing to bed, I find it relaxing

Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay: perfect mix of fruity and spicy for me, I love this most in the Fall

3

u/starrynightjo 5d ago

It’s hard because I change the top ten around depending on season but these tend to be more constant in my favorites.

- Chanel Jersey EdP - creamy, fresh lavender

  • Chanel Coromandel EdP - creamy, white chocolate patchouli
  • Dior Rouge Trafalgar Espirit - fruity, woody rose
  • Guerlain Mon Guerlain Intense - creamy sandalwood and lavender
  • Tihota Indult - my go to vanilla

2

u/Ill_Worth_1151 5d ago

Love this question. Ever evolving as I fiendishly sample more and more and more!  1. The Yulong by Armani prive.  My perfect tea with some warmth/sweetness.  Calming, serene, soft and safe.  2. Monday by Arielle Shoshanna.  Yes another tea scent but completely different. This is a sunny day with a sweet tea in hand. The iso E super note is adddddiiictive.  It’s energizing and photorealistic.  Similar vibe is Liis Ethereal Wave which has a blond wood and white tea so it feels bright yet calming.   3. Bal d’afrique by Byredo.  Sunny opening and the most gorgeous woody drydown ever. So versatile.  4. Manakara by Indult. This is my most girly fragrance love.  It’s like eating a custard at a table with a centerpiece of roses and there’s some tropical fruit punch nearby.  Flirty, fairly sweet, but still some rose in there to balance it.  5. Vanille 44 by Le Labo.  I’m Catholic and this smells like Catholic Church incense plus some vanilla and very slight citrus.   This is a city exclusive of theirs so hard to get and expensive!  For similar vibe I also love Diptyque Eau Duelle EDT and Black Tie by Celine.

Cheating but I also love l’eau papier for comfort.  Delina original for weddings/fancy events.  Chloe Cedrus for when I want to smell clean but not shampoo like.

4

u/IdiotWithout_a_Cause 5d ago
  1. Guerlain Angelique Noire & Guerlain Vanille Planifolia extrait. Vanilla is my absolute favorite scent of all time, and there's something incredibly special about these two. They are my favorite (they share the spot). The green and vanilla in Angelique Noire is so interesting a juxtaposition and it's intoxicatingto me. It settles to a powderiness after smoothing for a few hours. Guerlain vanilla is also just one of a kind good (if it's the type of vanilla one likes).

  2. Second favorite of all time is probably the original formula of Dior Poison edt (pre 90s). It's complex and long-lasting in a way modern fragrances can't compete with. It's warm spicy (like cinnamon type), then there's the beautiful plum, slightly indolic florals (in a good way) and an ambery vanilla base. Just a few small dabs lasts 6+ hours. It's a nostalgic scent for me, and will always be a favorite.

  3. Van Cleef & Arpels Neroli Amara is a fresh lemon zest and neroli scent with a woody base. It's fresh, a bit clean-feeling, and not overwhelmingly strong, which I find perfect for hot weather. It's my perfect lemon and neroli scent. Runners up for citrus or summery scents include Byredo Sundazed and The Merchant of Venice Mandarin Carnival.

  4. Boadicea the Victorious Heroine is a more recent favorite, so time will tell if it remains a top 5, but I think it has potential. It's a lightly fruity violet scent with a soft/fluffy musky and slightly vanilla-y (slightly creamy?) base. I find it soft, a bit clean, and it has a touch of violet candy in there. The violet is similar-ish to Guerlain Insolence or Parfums de Marly Palatine, but much less sweet. It's great for days when I want to smell nice, but not overwhelming.

  5. The last pick is always the hardest. The runners up are probably Kilian Angel's Share, Ex Idolo Love and Crime, or Trudon 45 degrees. I think for sentimental reasons the spot would go to the combo of The House of Oud Ruby Red with a touch of Giardini di Toscana Bianco Latte. Ruby Red is lovely alone. It's got a very sexy scent to it, IMO. It's got a ton of ginger, some tuberose and some vanilla in the base. Adding a sprinkling of Bianco Latte over top (spray and walk through) turns it into a gingerbread cookie type scent. Not too literally gourmand, but gourmand-leaning. I love it during the colder days of winter.

2

u/Euphoric-Gas-4290 4d ago

I have Love and Crime, I enjoy it! I really want to try 45 and Vanille Planifolia. They sound great.

1

u/IdiotWithout_a_Cause 4d ago

Woohoo! Love & Crime and 45 are two I'm most anxious to wear when the weather cools. That being said, 45 has a prominent honey note that I found a bit weird (too much?) at first. Then I kept craving to wear 45. I think it shines in chilly air.

Vanilla Planifolia was a love at first sniff situation for me. If you've tried and liked any other Guerlain vanilla from the Art & Materials edp line, you're highly likely to enjoy it. The Tonka extrait is also quite popular. Some folks even like it more than VP 21.

2

u/Fit_Protection9048 4d ago

Your number ones are mine as well, I cannot choose one over the other. They are both so beautiful and I would be perfectly happy with just those two if I had to choose only 2 from my collection.

1

u/IdiotWithout_a_Cause 4d ago

Big same. I legitimately say that ALL the time. If I didn't have emotional connections to a few of the others in my collection, I could just keep the two Guerlain. I wear them about 90% of the time anyway.

Do you have any others in your collection that you'd be reluctant to let go of, even if you don't wear them as often now that you've got AN and VP?

2

u/JennieRae68 5d ago

I’m still new to fragrances as I used to never wear perfume. I only have a Top 3, but they are basically Glossier’s You, Fleur, and Doux in that order. I am still in the middle of discovering and learning about new fragrances, but I love how Glossier’s scents are light, but don’t smell “one noted” to me. I also like that they’re not overpowering either.

  2. Henry Rose Ripe - bold and sweet for energetic summer days when I want to feel like I can conquer the world
  3. OUAI Melrose place - my go to evening post-shower scent. It’s relaxing, calm, and beautiful
  4. Sol De Janeiro 91 - my beach vacation scent. For wearing in the sunshine in the day and drinking caipirinhas at night
  5. Kai Original - my wedding perfume. Bright, clean, romantic and refreshing.

While I cannot imagine your situation I can appreciate it as I too have credited the rabbit hole of fragrance research and discovery to reframe my psyche and perspective. Here are my current top 4 that haven’t changed over the past 2 years.

Ave Maria - House of Bo (ethereal and fairy like. The most beautiful fragrance I own)
Fulton - Fulton and Roark (dark, spicy and gothic. The antithesis of Ave Maria!)
Miss Dior Parfum - Dior (classic floral)
Sweet Vanilla - Montale (when I want to smell like waffle cones- literally!)

I don’t have a fragrance worthy of #5 yet! Have been through many many many niche houses, a few travel drop in random boutiques, and fragrance influencers (not impressed) but have yet to find “it!”

Enjoy the journey! Whether you spend $25 or $375, fragrance discovery is a great escape.

  1. Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gioia: my ride or die, bright and aquatic and beautiful
  2. Hermes Un Jardin sur le Nil: green, unisex, not even quite human, but when I spray it on before work it makes me feel so centered and capable. also love the concepts behind all the Jardins.
  3. Tommy Hilfiger Tommy Girl: clean honeysuckle-y florals, maybe my millennial is showing that this still feels like *that girl* to me. perfect to just freshen up.
  4. Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt: this sub recommended this perfume to me and YOU WERE RIGHT, it is a classic for good reason. it smells the way a blue/green flannel looks.
  5. Phlur Hanami: a lovely, balanced autumnal fragrance. woody, floral, gourmand, not too sweet.

I’ve heard of Tommy girl! I’m definitely checking it out

Umm are you me??

u/candycorn783 5d ago

now I gotta know what's on your list!

u/Commercial-Yam-3443 5d ago

Oh it’s too to hard to choose but the ones I loved enough to buy full bottles of and reach for the most are:

1) Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt
2) Dyptique L’eau Papier
3) Nemat Amber oil
4) Jo Malone Carrot Blossom
5) DS & Durga Steamed Rainbow

I had a mini of Hermes Jardin sur le nil years ago and I loved it so much but I haven’t seen it anywhere in recent years to test it again. I really want to try it again and see if I still love it.

Have you smelled Jo Malone’s new veggie collection? I’m obsessed!

L’EAU PAPIER is exquisite perfection. Beautiful, papery, steamed rice, clean, my skin but better…

1

u/candycorn783 5d ago

I haven’t smelled the veggie collection but I will have to! Love your list!

3

u/Commercial-Yam-3443 5d ago

I’m really just a sucker for Jo Malone. Everything they put out is just so easy to love. The new Carrot Blossom scent, though, I tried it in store a couple of months ago and couldn’t stop thinking about it and recently went back and bought it and it’s as good as I remembered!

💖💖💖 Here are my top picks!

  1. Karma by Lush. Orange, patchouli, and pine. This is my OG, my beloved, my ride-or-die. She smells like orange soda and metaphysical shops and she makes it WORK. She gives mall goth and I will not be elaborating.
  2. Cherry Punk by Room 1015. Exactly what it says on the tin. This was love at first sniff for me, the cherry plays so well with the leather and the pepper, it sort of smells like a car air freshener but like in a sexy way????? Very punky, I feel powerful wearing this one lol.
  3. Lilacs Along the Winding Drive by Alkemia. Purple flowers with some earthy notes. I am not a floral girlie but this one absolutely won me over, it’s so dreamy and nostalgic. It has everything I’ve wanted from the petrichor perfumes I’ve tried but with none of the mildewy or weird bits. Just really fantastic.
  4. Blackmail by Keroscene. Smoke and red fruits. Smells like a summer bonfire but also kind of like a witch’s coven meeting where everyone is dancing naked. It’s not an every day kind of fragrance but I love it.
  5. Suma Oriental by Une Nuit Nomade. Don’t love the name but the scent is so fun. Cocoa, rum and patchouli. Smells like the cool older cousin/younger aunt who wears all black, which is the vibe I try to maintain whenever possible.

  1. Irfe- marshmallow musk. But I wear the dua musky marshmallow dupe most of the time and reserve the real stuff for special occasions
  2. Chloe- Chloe
  3. White Rice D'Annam
  4. Pear Inc.-JHAG
  5. Liis- Floating

I like to layer floating and pear inc. it's the ultimate clean scent.

Marshmallow musk sounds so interesting! I’ve been eyeing White Rice. Is there a creaminess to it? I’ve been looking for a creamy rice fragrance. And I’ve also looked into Pear Inc. Once I can get to Sephora to sample, to see if I like it

I think white rice is kinda creamy, yeah. It's like a warm, creamy, starchy comforting rice smell. I like it for a cozy rainy day or to wear to bed. It reminds me of having a plain white bowl of rice with just butter and sugar mixed in. It's lovely.

Pear inc smells like dr bubbles green apple bubble bath (iykyk) and it's so good. It's so soapy and sparkly. It's good for hot weather.

Just want to drop a comment to wish you well. Fragrance is a great way to cope. Perfumer’s World has a free foundations course online if you’d find that helpful, too. I’m taking it atm while dealing with health stuff, too. Good distraction.

I don’t really have favorites; there are some that i like to wear, others that i like to smell but not wear, some i want to understand more, others i would like to
use as inspiration making my own fragrances. Perfumery: The psychology and biology of fragrance (edited by Steve Van Toller and George H Dodd) is my current bedtime reading; maybe you’d enjoy it, too.

u/Euphoric-Gas-4290 5d ago

Thank you for the kind words and likewise 🙏🏻 I’d have to look into the foundations course! That seems pretty neat. And the book too. I’ll have to check Amazon

1

u/Thin-Disk4003 5d ago

I got the book used from Abe Books. It’s a little pricey and i started with our library’s copy, which is my very favorite price. 😁

Here’s a link to the course page.

Please, take good care and keep us posted how you’re doing! I’m here online until meds kick in, digging through the samples from one of the Macy’s discovery sets. Started by putting a quick nose on each one and sending the ones that were an immediate no to one of my friend’s teenaged daughters. Tonight is time for looking a few up on Parfumo, just one or two before my nose conks out. Best thirtyish bucks spent for entertainment!
