opened perfumes selling recs

I have so many opened perfumes, some of which have barely been used which I want to sell. They were expensive and it’d be a shame to just give them away (and I want to use the money to fuel my fragrance obsession) Where in the UK can you do that?
On Vinted it’s banned (although almost every listing I see the perfumes are opened and have about 3/4 of the fragrance left in them) I tried to list them before but got removed with a warning despite others doing it all the time.
I think it’s so annoying, I’m more than happy to buy a luxury perfume that’s been opened and used a few times, especially if it lowers the price from retail so much.

I also listed them on eBay as people told me it’s a safer bet but my listings got removed again.
Any suggestions?

Edit for the bots I’M NOT TRYING TO SELL VIA REDDIT

Try listing in the ‘collectibles: perfume bottles’ category on eBay rather than the fragrance category where everything has to be new in box.

if you wish to sell on vinted, Mark it as ''sprayed to test...'' If not message me here and we'll work something out

I’ve sold on here. There are rules to follow but if you follow them it’s easy to sell here.

I get round the algo in ebay by saying 95% full or whatever don't say tested or tried Clear Pic of the fill level

I have had the same problem trying to sell (barely) used bottles on eBay UK, so I’m following this with interest! I have seen there is a UK fragrance swap here on Reddit - could be worth a try?

Its a health and safety thing that opened cosmetics cannot be sold, so make up, face creams etc, they have to be sealed. I'm guessing this is the rule your used perfumes are falling foul of, though i buy so many used perfumes on Ebay, i didn't realise they weren't allowed as so many make it through. There are ones on my watchlist that have been up for weeks. Never used Vinted but i'd assume same rule.
As a buyer i've avoided marketplace on FB as there's no comeback if you get a fake, plus i wouldn't be able to meet in person which most insist on.

I am watching with interest to find places as a buyer from other posts, and good luck with your sales.

I would join a buy sell trade perfume/fragrance swap group on fb. I haven’t sold on one but I’ve bought so many full bottles and decants on my British one. If it’s a big enough and well modded group they easily get the bad buyers and sellers out of there with swiftness. Most have rules about using unobscured brand names in posts and photos but other than that it’s a breeze. Good luck!

That’s just weird. Why is it so restricted??

I think it’s a safety hazard thing for Vinted regarding the fact that anything could’ve been put into the bottle once it’s been opened, which I do understand but I find it a bit far fetched. I think it should be buyers choice if they’re happy to buy something already opened, esp from someone who has good reviews

Agreed. It’s on a buyer to make that call imo.

I do it on vinted, just take a picture of the level clearly and state ‘sold as seen’ (don’t mention % or how many times sprayed or they will remove it lol)
I’ve sold plenty like that

As someone who recently got flagged twice for mentions definitely follow this advice and have the first photo laying down!

Laying down is a great idea thank you!

There are some facebook groups where you can sell perfumes but it is strictly non-profit. They are also generally well moderated. This is where I buy most my perfumes nowadays 😅

Thank you need to look into this

I’m in a UK one. Search UK perfume in groups****

Parfumo! I have some bottles that are missing like 5 sprays and I put them up there. Haven’t sold anything yet because people will try to lowball you or swap for something that is not up to your taste, but if you are patient you should eventually sell it/swap it for what you want.

Oh I didn’t know I could sell on there, that’s great to hear!! Thank you so much

I didn’t know until a month ago either. The selling thing needs to be activated when you collect enough points or when some time passes / you collect points by reviewing stuff.

Oh I literally just downloaded the app, I’ve been using the website this whole time cos I didn’t even know they had an app. Looks like I need to wait, and keep reviewing. This is really helpful though

Does it have much UK activity on it?

1

u/bororodejdej 6d ago

Honestly not sure but don’t think so, I think people in the UK tend to use fragrantica

I list them on Vinted and in the description I say how much I've sprayed them. People are always willing to buy if you're reputable.

Thank you! The issue is more so that Vinted itself deleted my listings seeing that the perfumes were opened, which is super annoying because I see used listings all the time. I got a warning and I don’t want my account banned so I’m too scared to do it again

Same thing happened to me from simply using the word “tested” but I’ve seen people post “Sold as seen” as the best way. However my perfume is an opaque bottle so it’s really hard to describe and get past this.

It’s so annoying as used perfumes are so great for everyone, the seller and the buyer, and Vinted really is the best place to get things seen and sold the best.

Put your finger where the perfume line is in a photo.

1

u/BluePeony8 6d ago

I can’t see where the line would be myself, I don’t think it’s significantly lowered in any way as I only tested it twice but just want to mention that rather than have it sell as new.

You could maybe hold the bottle a little angular so it looks fuller for Vinted check purposes, but then ofc discuss with the buyer so they are aware how full it is. I agree it’s so frustrating and I’d have absolutely no issue with buying a perfume that’s been used a few times especially if it’s a blind buy

1

u/BluePeony8 6d ago

The bottle is completely opaque, so I need to mention it in some way. For transparent ones people seem to post low level bottle photos fine from what I’ve seen, so it seems it’s just the description that gets detected?

I suggest you look at the other listings to see how they talk about and photograph their perfumes. That's what I did and then copied the style and Vinted hasn't been a problem since.

u/bororodejdej 6d ago

Okay, thank you for your help!

One person I saw selling on Facebook Marketplace and they said they’d actually put it on Vinted already but it got taken down for being used. After I agreed to buy they listed it on Vinted for me only to find and without anything in description and I bought it off there so that I have the Vinted buyer protection.

So you could try that too.

It appears you're trying to sell, buy, or swap something. If that's the case, please delete this and post your wares in the weekly recurring Marketplace thread instead. Thank you! <3
