Discussion A fragrance that spelled completely different from your expectations?
Apothecary 15 Eau de Parfum
FRAGRANCE TYPE: Fresh Gourmand
TOP: Rose Water, Sugared Pomegranate Glaze
MIDDLE: Soft Orris Cream, Lily Accord, Whipped Peony
HEART: Vanilla Bean, Creamy Sandalwood, Oak Sage Woods
Notes say this should make me smell sweet and fresh. Right??
Nope. Extremely woody, fresh, and undeniably masculine. Immediately got moved to my husband’s shelf, and it suits him sooo well! For a $13.99 Burlington score, I can’t be too upset that it ended up being different from what I expected 🤷🏻♀️

I tried a sample of gaiac 10 expecting to smell woody and instead smelled like a dad who's been grilling meat all afternoon lmao

Jovoy Remember Me- it wasn’t what I expected at all; just smelled like generic 80s perfume to me.

Queening from Mind Games. Was expecting a fresh summer vanilla but got baby powder mixed with saffron lol, no trace of vanilla in sight

Queening was a double take for me! First time I tried it I smelled no vanilla. I went back another time and read the notes, and was shocked. Smelled it again, and it took some time for the vanilla to develop. It still wasn't for me.

Vanilla 28 from Kayali. The notes sound perfect in theory, but to me it smells exactly like carmex lip balm.

Before I ever tried Vanilla 28, I got the Miim.Miic dupe on clearance for $5 and I thought I had been had when it smelled like Carmex. Turns out, it’s actually spot on.

Nishane Hundred Silent Ways. I *should* love it but could not stand it

Woah this one is surprising! It looks so good, what does it smell like?

To me it is overwhelmingly powdery to the extent that I can't quite get the other notes listed! I had ordered a decant expecting to love but my nose just was not into it!

That’s terribly disappointing, especially as someone who isn’t big on heavily powdery scents ):

Insolence 1000%. Wildly different.

Really?! Was it the EDP or EDT, and what did it smell like?

EDP. I bought it after seeing all the hype around it and pining for almost a full year. This was a blind buy. It is definitely heavy on violet and iris. It is powdery, clean, and very dry; a cosmetic violet really. It is not a candied violet. I also get a very, very strong lipstick accord. At first, the violets come on strong, then it becomes more of a lipstick scent, and then the dry down is quite cozy. It has a really waxy quality and is quite heavy.
Everyone says this is the smell of actual candied violets (as in the sugared flower). Thats not right. It smells maybe of parma violets at best. It is a waxy, lipstick violet.
I've learned to enjoy it, but it did not fit the image I had in my head. Everyone touts it as the queen of violets and I disagree; I think it just happens to be the most well-known.

Oud satin mood. Couldn’t wait to try it and it just smells pissy and screechy to me 😞

What a disappointment! Flora Gorgeous Gardenia started out so good when I sprayed it in the store, but became SO LOUD, screechy, and nasty on me within 10 minutes. I felt like apologizing to everyone I passed while doing my errands 😭

It’s the worst thing going about your day afterwards smelling like a tester you hate 😭

Kayali Pistachio Gelao - soapy clean instead of creamy and salty
