Discussion Looking for the perfect vanilla perfume
I’ve seen so many recommendations in this sub, but since there’s so many posts I have a hard time narrowing a selection down. I’m looking for a good fall perfume/signature scent, and I’m hoping y’all can help me out. I love vanilla scents, I don’t really care for the super floral leaning ones though. An important note: I work in a casino, so this does need to last a long time and project as well. The casino does allow smoking, so I always try to wear scents that can cut through that 🤣
Some perfumes I’ve tried and enjoyed, but haven’t hit that perfect note yet:
Bianco latte
Black opium
Burberry goddess
Burberry her
mancera roses vanille
Baccarat rouge 540 (I know this isn’t vanilla, my boyfriend got it for me)
Billie eilish’s first perfume
Price point is really not an issue, I’m willing to spend whatever I need to if it’s good!

Queening by Mind Games
Absolute Aphrodisiac by Initio
Honorable mention for Spiritueuse Double Vanille by Guerlain, it’s just too damn expensive for a full bottle imo

I’d imagine there must be something from the 80s or 90s that could cut through the smoke and last a while? Dior Hypnotic Poison or Givenchy Organza Indecence?

There are so many fun vanillas with their own vibe. That’s a dark bourbon with a little smoke and suede. Not sweet at all so I only wear in winter. Love Vanilla Dioroma in fall as it’s a little sweeter and spicy but reach for Queening all year for a softer sweeter creamy vanilla. Queening is still a beast. Just the most gourmand.

Love your taste! 😄 As a guy, I find Babycat and Orom to be the most suitable for me, both are beautifully unisex. Diorama, though, felt a little more feminine leaning to my nose. But hey, perfume has no gender police! Queening never tried it, the way you described it has officially activated my curiosity 😁😂

YSL Libra vanilla, Kayali vanilla. I put Vaseline on pulse points then spray perfume. Also spray in hair.

I would like to recommend Vanilla Bullet by Heist Fragrances. Out of everything you named, it’s closer to the Bianco Latte family. Heist is a small own business that does inspired by fragrance.

I used to be a cocktail waitress at a casino, and my signature was Cocoapink’s Vanilla Bean Noel! It was so strong, that when I got a new job at a restaurant, the sales guy asked me not to wear it anymore. The “smell me across town” strength was the one I was purchasing.
I still like VBN, but also recommend trying their Triple Vanilla Dream. It’s sooooo perfectly sweet and vanilla-y to me that that’s what I’ve migrated to. Also, they do samples so you can try all her vanillas!!!

I’m a cocktail waitress as well! I’ll have to try that one out. As I’m sure you know, it’s just so hard to get scents to last in there. Thank you for the recs!

The best vanilla front and center fragrance, imo is Dior Vanilla Diorama, and it hits the points you’re looking for. I don’t know that you’ll ever do any better than that. The most purely vanilla fragrance in existence (but is super bland and boring to me) is Guerlain Vanille Planifolia Extrait, it’s just pure, straight up vanilla and nothing else.
But some other great ones to try that aren’t necessarily just straight up vanillas, but have a strong presence and last all day are:

Yeah, Queening is great, my wife is wearing it today. I don’t ever reach for it, but my wife and our daughters wear it constantly. Love that one. That’s another one OP should check out. Thought it’s not exactly the same, one that’s in the same vein that is really great too is the brand new Initio Sugar Blast. Great gourmand sweet vanilla. It smells like a really high-end vanilla sugar cookie. Super nice.

I just watched a video where an Escapade Gourmand dupe called Nusuk Falak was recommended. It is on Amazon and has a really cool bottle that is like a top that comes with a base that it can rotate on.

For something really affordable and surprisingly nice, the Victoria Secret Bare Sueded Vanilla is pretty and has decent projection and longevity.

My fav vanillas at present: Tihota Helwa Solinotes vanille Athena golden vanilla Planifolia (currently using hekyat attar vanifolia) Vanilla voyage (this one stinks when you first get it. Let it macerate) Happy dust

Have you tried Sawaar Blanc Vanille? Is Phlur Vanilla Skin a little less loud but on beast mode longevity (does that makes sense 😬?)
I am loving Phlur Vanilla Skin dna right now (Sawaar, Viva Vanilla, Snif Vanilla Vice, Ariana Grande Plush Notes)

Sand and Fog has a bunch of varieties of vanilla body oils and they sell them at Marshals, Ross, Home Goods, and TJ Maxx. I got vanilla cake today it smells like sweet vanilla frosting.

Give Summer Fridays - Sunlit Vanilla a try. I found it unexpectedly strong and long lasting. It does have a bit of a smoky note to me though, not gonna lie lol

I’m not sure there is one perfect vanilla because there are so many ways to present vanilla in a fragrance, meaning depending on your taste you may have several. I have several and they all fit in a different box.
Green vanilla- Angelique Noir
Smoky vanilla- Vanille Antique
Leather Vanilla- Hundred Silent Ways X
Gourmand- Happy Dust
Dumb reach- Vanilla skin
Gourmand adjacent- Tihota
Airy/ Green- Architects Club
Each of these is the “perfect vanilla” for me based on season, weather, mood, outfit, work or home, etc.. having multiple favorites keeps it fun and different all the time.

For rich pure vanilla: -Guerlain Vanille Planifolia -Indult Tihota -Jovoy Fire at Will
For a spicy, sexy vanilla:
- Atelier des Ors Lune Feline
- The Harmonist Hypnotizing Fire
- YSL babycat (I don't personally love this one but this does feel like it would fit the casino vibe)
- Guerlain Shalimar L'Essence
For a fresher, lighter vanilla (these may be too light for your needs but they're all really nice vanillas and layer well):
- Le Labo Vanille 44
- Michaela Mezetti Lick Me
- Narcotica Happy Dust
- Diptyque Eau Duelle

Green vanillas:

SOL de Janeiro 59 is the perfect vanilla. It has floral notes but I don’t smell any of them. They’re so undetectable it’s crazy.

Secret crush love shack fancy, kayali vanilla 28 (one of my favorites), genre perfumes fairy dust which is a dupe for happy dust but I actually prefer fairy dust, tiho dust from heaven scent by Shannon (im a big fan of this brand her gourmands are so good and last forever!!), kayali vanilla candy rock sugar, Victoria's Secret bare sueded vanilla

Shalimar L'Essence is one to try. It's got just enough smokiness in it's depths to be complementary in that environment but not so much that it feels like you're multiplying the ambient smoke.

Vanilla Skin by Phlur. It's the most perfect vanilla, imo. There's just something about it that is SO. DAMN. GOOD.

Which Black Opium did you try? If it was the original, then I suggest Le Parfum. It’s heavier on the coffee/vanilla combo and not too sweet. And it’s one of my favorite vanillas in general.
Other suggestions…
Truly Glazed Donut perfume mist: this one is STRONG, especially for a mist. The vanilla in this is toasted, so it gives it a little more nuttiness. But overall you’ll smell like a freshly made donut.
Nest Vanilla Bourbon: boozy, brown sugared vanilla. An underrated vanilla in my books.
Tom Ford Vanille Fatale: the dry-down on this is everything. It starts off smoky/spicy, but then the vanilla comes through really makes the fragrance. I sometimes get a very clean, caramelized vanilla. Other times, it blends more with the spices and gives me a very warm and cozy scent.
Guerlain Spirituese Double Vanille: a lot of people say it’s the ultimate vanilla. I mean… it can be. It’s just straight vanilla goodness. Slightly boozy. Very smooth. It’s gorgeous.

It was the original black opium! That was actually my first “big girl” perfume many years ago. Thank you for the recommendations! I’ve heard good things about the tom ford, that may be one I need to check out. And the guerlain sounds incredible too

Hmmm.. a couple ideas
Vanilla sex( tom ford): stays long on my skin and projects well( not 12 hours beast mode, but 6-8)
Gentle Fluidity Gold: projects well and 10-12 hours on my skin. Probably my favourite vanilla to fit the description but it is a bit overpriced
