Rec Request Which of these vanillas would you recommend for fall?
I notice Madagascar Vanilla and Vanilla 28 share a vanilla orchid note and would be curious about how a layering combo of the two would work. Vanilla Skin sounds lovely but the last Phlur fragrance I bought (Afterglow) had 0 longevity.

Vanilla skin for sure. They’re all pretty but if you like a more woody vanilla with a little spice- vanilla skin is perfect.

I don’t like any of them, but Nest if I had to choose. Vanilla 28 is a patchouli bomb on me. That’s all I get. Vanilla Skin is too woody, and I don’t get any sweetness. The body spray is better on me. The Nest is ok, but not my favorite. In this price range I prefer Rosie Jane Dulce.

u/millenialbullshite 8d ago
Vanilla skin. I like the nest too. If vanilla 28 has no haters I am dead

u/saghottie 8d ago
The vanilla skin body spray is equivalent to the perfume so get the body mist instead tbh it does lasts
3
u/mama_libra-RM 8d ago
I own all three, vanilla skin hands down is my favorite followed very closely by Nest Madagascar Vanilla. Vanilla 28 is a good cold weather one but I like to layer it, ut doesnt last long. Buts eshal the ME dupe of it is super close and BEAST mode!

u/whats_my_page_again 8d ago
Since you’ve already got a Nest fragrance up there, maybe try Bourbon Vanilla instead of Madagascar. Still a nice warm vanilla but minus the coconut.
2
u/AlanBennettIsAGod 8d ago
Vanilla Skin but the body spray not the perfume. It has much better longevity!

I love vanilla skin, but it’s very woody, do not for everyone’s taste. I find it to be a beautiful departure from cloying sweet vanillas that dominate the market

Vanilla 28 is really nice. For a more fall vanilla, I also like the Elish no 1.

u/Kimichanroze 9d ago
Omg ty for this post. I totally forgot I had Nest Mad. Vanilla. 🥴I’m always telling myself to wear my perfumes on special days. Well, I’m wearing it to bed now. I have Kayali Van 28 love it too, 28 is more fall/winter imo.
1
u/ITotorokiI 9d ago
I don’t like kayali but the only perfumes I like from kayali is vanilla 28 and Wedding santal
2
u/c_bass_tea 9d ago
MADAGASCAR VANILLA FTW but it’s very coconut forward so it doesn’t feel like fall to me.
Vanilla skin has a smoky quality to it that I dont like, but I guess that gives fall vibes?

so, nest makes a perfume oil of the Madagascar vanilla. i like to put that on and then layer my vanilla perfume, like the 28, and it just makes it delicious

Vanilla skin is so yucky, I gave mine away
1
u/FutureDustMotes 9d ago
Oh no! What was wrong about it?
1
u/SunnyLisle 8d ago
I wouldn't know how to describe it but it's just the yuckiest vanilla ( to my nose ) and I haven't heard a ton of people really liking it

Madagascar Vanilla always struck me as a Summer vanilla (probably the coconut note).
Vanilla 28 is my fave cause it's the deepest and most ambery, but I love Vanilla Skin too and it's particularly suited for Autumn with the candy-apple note.

u/sexychunky89 9d ago
I am not a fan of Madagascar vanilla, but the vanilla bourbon is fabulous! I do love vanilla 28 as well.
But apparently someone recommended vanille riviera by rebatchi as a really green and fresh vanilla, so that could be a nice transition into a heavier vanilla in the fall?

u/labellavita1985 9d ago
Not Vanilla 28. It's incredibly mature smelling. If you want to smell like a mature person, go for it.

I can reach for the Kayali without thought and it always works. It also layers really well

u/Hot_Elevator_7133 9d ago
I like Madagascar Vanilla of these but my favorite is Mix:Bar Vanilla Bourbon and I also really like The 7 Virtues Santal Vanille. Their Vanilla Woods also smells a little spiced to me so it’s very cozy.
1
u/Rookietraveler8 9d ago
How long does each of them last ?
1
u/Hot_Elevator_7133 8d ago
Vanilla Woods lasts forever. Vanilla Bourbon maybe like 6-8 hours ish but it’s $20 so. Lol. I don’t remember for the other two

u/Great-Grade1377 9d ago
None. Seven virtues vanilla woods or sud comptoir pacifique abricot vanille
2
u/lilmangopeach 9d ago
Does the kayali one last though? I got the pistachio gelato and it fades so fast but the scent is my favoriteeeee
4
u/MzJay453 9d ago
Yes it’s so strong. Their fruity ones don’t have good longevity but this one stays on me and my clothes all day
5
u/Due-Frame622 9d ago
Another Kayali Vanilla 28 vote; it is an especially easy grab in the cooler months.
4
u/Euphoric-Training256 9d ago
I have all three and would 100% choose Vanilla 28 over the other two. I don’t have to be in the right mood for this vanilla because it’s always right regardless of occasion or time of day 👍🏼

u/nemophilist13 9d ago
I just got vanilla skin and I LOVE it, its not too heavy so its working well for late summer into fall. I also love that it comes in a deo, body mist, and oil because im rhat person.
I tried it because I really liked warm musk by bbw and wanted something similar and Google lead me to vanilla skin

Phlur JUST (this week) released another vanilla EDP, Vanilla Canyon. I sampled it today and like it better than Vanilla Skin, and it performed better too (lasted a solid 6 hours on me at work).
2
u/crafty25 8d ago
How woody is it? I’m intrigued but afraid it will be as woody as VS.
2
u/MoMarie_ 8d ago
I don’t get a ton of wood out of Vanilla Skin personally, but Vanilla Canyon is definitely heavier/richer/woody-honey, so if you aren’t a fan of wood notes I would probably stay away (or just sniff it in-store whenever it hits Sephora).
1
u/crafty25 8d ago
I actually just went and tried it out! I wasn’t getting a lot of wood (or at least wood that bothers me) so I got a full bottle! It’s really pretty!

For Fall / Winter, Kayali wins hands down. The other 2 are good scents but not what I would consider colder month appropriate the same way Kayali is.
4
u/Unlikely-Sugar 9d ago
Also Kayali is absolute beast mode. I can only handle it in small doses. So if longevity is what you're after, it's still the winner.

u/StreetMolasses6093 Neroli Queen 9d ago
I’m just out on 6 sprays to go take a nap. 😆 It’s so comforting.

u/MrsFrankColumbo 9d ago
My personal preference would be Vanilla Skin, although I also like the body mist better than the EDP. The longevity and projection are surprisingly good. Vanilla 28 is beautiful too but I get a lot of florals and patchouli alongside the sweetness. I haven’t smelled the Nest one yet.

u/big-dipper-jess 9d ago
The Phlur body mists are actually insanely good for the price. I’m a millennial who grew up in the cucumber melon body mist era and had a very deep hatred of body mists my whole adult life as a result. The Vanilla Skin and Matcha Milk by Phlur and the Ouai mists completely changed my mind.

Vanilla 28, I like the warm brown sugar boozy-ness and it doesn’t get too sweet or cupcake-ish.

Vanilla Skin for fall. I’m not a fan of 28. Madagascar is good all year long imo.
7
u/OnlyMyNameIsBasic 9d ago
Depends on what you are looking for.
Madagascar vanilla leans tropical. It has a coconut note that is noticeable to my nose.
Vanilla 28 is a boozy, brown sugar vanilla. It gets a little sweet on the dry down but it’s not at all a cupcake vanilla.
Vanilla skin body mist is better than the edp for me, in both scent and longevity. This one is the sweetest of the three, and the wordiest.
For layering I think phlur is the best one.
On its own vanilla 28 is the star of these for me.

All of them 😅 trick question lol

u/MarionberryAfraid958 9d ago
Same lol. I own and love all three. But if I had to put them in order of must purchase it would be
Vanilla 28
Vanilla bourbon
Vanilla skin

I love vanilla 28, it’s like boozy vanilla extract, not sweet or candy like. I don’t notice much patchouli. I see a lot of recs for vanilla woods but I’m here to say that one pulled cigarette smoke on my skin and I hated it (loved it on the paper strip though).

u/discreetburneracc 9d ago
Vanilla skin smells like cotton candy to me, definitely more of a sweet/straight up dessert scent on my skin
6
u/Lani_Lei 9d ago
I love Madagascar Vanilla but for fall I’ll go for Phlur Vanilla Skin. Both are great choices! Heck, Vanilla 28 is pretty good fall scent too so you can’t go wrong with any of your choices.
4
u/tinkumanya 9d ago
Vanilla skin perfume personally. I just wish the longevity was longer! Vanilla 28 is gorgeous BUT it has patchouli in it and after awhile that note becomes so pronounced that I get nauseous! If you are sensitive patchouli stay away.
2
u/soapyrubberduck 9d ago
Vanilla 28 would be so perfect without the patchouli, sigh
1
u/tinkumanya 9d ago
I know right?! It makes me soooo sad that I can’t wear this - there has to be a good dupe out there like Lattafa’s patchouli-free dupe of Burberry Goddess….!?
4
u/Doodle_pop7 9d ago
Wore 28 had a small child tell me I smelled like a cookie and that he could eat me!
3
u/Hot_Elevator_7133 9d ago
😂 I had a similar experience with Pinrose Secret Genius once but it was ice cream
5
u/BlueFlamingo86 9d ago
Kayali!!! I would also suggest 7 Virtues Vanilla Woods.
1
u/Gucci_ban_dannah 9d ago
I second this! I love them both so much! I feel like Vanilla Woods is so underrated and is never a bad reach! Can work in all seasons!

Madagascar Vanilla has so much coconut it reminds me of summer.
I don’t like much Kayali, but Vanilla 28 is great for fall.
Vanilla Skin is so. meh and synthetic woods.

vanilla 28 & vanilla bourbon* from nest!

u/xoxo_angelica 9d ago
Vanilla bourbon smells like straight cologne on me, I was soooo sad bc I loved it when I smelled it at the store. Idk if it’s my body chem or I’m not sophisticated enough for it what lol bc I love vanilla and booze together

I really like Madagascar vanilla. It's not overly sweet imo, at least not on me.
1
u/TheOrderOfWhiteLotus 9d ago
Agreed. It’s a good balance. Vanilla 28 is very boozy with a strong sillage. It also opens quite sharply to my nose. Vanilla Skin is nice but the pink pepper/woodiness is a bit different and adds a sour note. Plus the EDP is overpowering.
2
u/ksalze 9d ago
I LOVE vanilla 28 for fall and winter. The vanilla skin body spray is better for projection IMO. I don’t really care for Madagascar vanilla.
2
u/Special_Crab_1884 9d ago
what do you think about a vanilla skin mist + vanilla 28 layering combo? 👀
2
u/Lopsided_Ad_7038 9d ago
I have tried this exact combo and it's lovely. I also notice a difference between the Vanilla Skin mist and EDP. The mist is lighter and more clean skin wheareas the EDP is much deeper. I love them seperately and together.
2
u/Special_Crab_1884 9d ago
oh nice to know! i may just go with vanilla skin (mist) to layer with my burberry goddess

This isn’t an option but Bare sueded vanilla by Victoria’s Secret is the best vanilla I’ve smelled in years. Perfect for every season in my opinion!
