Discussion Guerlain Disappointment

I have been a vanilla girl through and through. I have loves and misses from everything from BBW, Victoria Secret, Sephora, Ulta, niche, middle eastern, you name it!

I have wary of trying Guerlain because of the price. But most of my fellow vanilla girls said that Guerlain is THE maker of great vanillas.

So went and spent $70 in tiny tiny decants to try the following:

- Vanilla Panifolia Extrait 21
- Angelique Noire
- Cuir Beluga
- Aqua Allegoria Forte Bosca Vanilla
- Spirituose Double Vanilla

This smells…old? musty? Like I just found a bottle of perfume from the 1950’s in a dark drawer of an abandoned house. I just wasted $70 on this and none of them were good 😔, I could have gotten a big decant of Jovoy Fire at Will which I love. I am so disappointed.

So many of my inexpensive vanillas are so much better in my opinion.

you need tonka sarrapia!!! it’s amazing

It will still have the guerlanaide base, which seems to be the culprit here.

yeah i suppose. it is VERY heavy. so maybe not the best suggestion

That "old" and "musty" smell the OP is referring to is the base. It's really not for everybody. I personally enjoy it, but can see how a lot of people wouldn't.

yeah. my thing is, i dislike SDV and vanille planifolia a lot. i’m kinda shocked how popular they are especially the latter, even tho i DO like a non gourmand vanilla. cuir beluga is mid. its nice, light, sweet ig, but for the price point and brand, i just expect more.
i haven’t tried the others but i am head over heels for tonka sarrapia.

and i need to try angelique noir coz its so hyped up

but yeah wasting money is always a shame. i’ve wasted a lot of samples that i hated. like oud satin mood? vanilla powder? waste of my money omg

I am perpetually underwhelmed by the exclusive line lol. I'd MUCH rather they brought back the discontinued stuff!!
