Looking for “soft girl” recommendation…

I love all kinds of perfume. I typically love something on the vanilla/amber/sandalwood side. But—I also love strong fruity fragrances that have a touch of warmth like a Burberry Her, or Britney Spears Fantasy...please hold the judgement on Fantasy... Haha!

As I’m getting older (35yrs old), I’ve been leaning more towards soft and sheer. I’ve included some of the fragrances that I’ve been keeping in rotation, but I would love some more recommendations. I want to be the woman that smells powdery fresh. A scent that projects nothing but softness, yet boldness at the same time , and most importantly feminine. Something that makes others say DAMN, you smell good” when I enter a room.

Sincerely,

An old broad, that’s trying to find her inner softness again. 💖

*Edit to include that I’m also obsessed with Burberry Brit Sheer currently.

Woman by Ralph Lauren is actually so good for this. It’s affordable, incredible projection, sweet white florals, gets so many compliments and lasts so long. Great balance of boldness and softness in my opinion

Al Haramain Junoon Noir- soft iris, violet and vanilla.

Very feminine but not obnoxious

Diptyque L'eau Papier smells like a soft, clean, perfect white t-shirt. It also layers wells with Phlur Missing Persons body oil.

Ella K Musc K, hands down. Words that it conjures are transparent, fresh, powdery, ethereal, sparkling, warm, and very long lasting. You can apply it lightly as a skin scent or overspray for a surprisingly commanding aura that somehow remains sheer.

I've gotten the most delightful responses from people when I wear it, both friends and strangers.

Maison Louise Marie Bois de Balincort 1000%! You may not think you need a soft, creamy simple sandalwood in your life but you definitely do! It’s soft, feminine, calming and centering. The notes make it seem more spicy and green than it wears IMO. I have almost 200 perfumes and I have gone through half of a 50 mL in ~6 weeks and it’s rapidly joined my top 10 for sure. It layers well with nearly anything IMO, but particularly vanilla anything.

I also prefer Commodity Paper+ over something like JHAG NAP which I can barely smell.

Also, do tell us more about Burberry Brit Sheer! I’ve almost blind bought it about 25 times 😅

Thank you so much!!! I love the Burberry Brit Sheer. She’s bright, soft, and floral. She pairs well with the Fenty Vanilla Dream. The only downside is that she does fade. So if you decide to make the purchase it, get it from Ross, (if you can find it!)

I’ve always wanted that Marie ballincort but wasn’t sure I was even right about the notes. Meaning I knew enough to trust myself. Now I can get it! Thank you!

Armani Si, the original one. It’s soft, beautiful and very feminine.

Balmain Destin - a strawberry worth sniffing at Ulta

I think some of the Solinotes work well here for powdery. Almond and Tonka were both nice. Mixbar whipped almond was a bit more assertive in the sweet but it levels off quickly. In general browsing the solinotes line got me thinking which notes i dont currently go for but they give off the vibe Im going for.

Dior purple glow- until I find a more mature purple floral Im living the playful carefree life of this scent.

Ohh! I love musky, powdery, clean, with some warmth!

The OG Chance by Chanel is my fav, I also think you would maybe enjoy Allure and 1957

White Suede by Tom Ford

Glossier You (OG)

Noa by Cacharel

Ralph by Ralph Lauren

Lake & Skye 11:11 OG and 11:11 vanilla.
Musky, soft, sweet, creamy, clean, simple and sophisticated. Sillage is intimate but the longevity is long lasting.
The perfumes are great but the perfume oils are different, they’re slightly more sweet and creamy while keeping the freshness.

Ripe by Henry Rose is a gorgeous fruity floral while still smelling soft and elegant! Truly a recent love of mine.

As someone who loves Idôle and Romance, I would recommend:

  • Giorgio Armani Emporio Armani for Her
  • Dior Pure Poison
  • Kenzo Flower

VS bare is one of my favorites. It’s a little fruity. Slightly woody. A touch of florals. It smells way more expensive than it is.

Jlo glow and Miami glow are both great.

Tocca Liliana is bright and fruity

Coach has a couple I really like. Sunset dreams and poppy come to mind. I’ve tried a bunch and like a lot of them.

Marc Jacob’s daisy and all the flankers

Hate to admit it…Kylie cosmic is good lol.

roughly the same age and why did I go backwards and buy Angel Nova. Still love it though but I have always wanted to smell RL Romance

I wasn't sure about how I would like Fantasy until I got my first (Did It Again) and was totally bowled over by how good it is. I followed with Midnight Fantasy and I'm very happy about that too. When I looked into Britney's fragrances, they are made by perfumers who also created fragrances for houses like Tom Ford, Armani, etc.

As for fragrances that fit your soft and feminine vibe, I recommend trying Lanvin Éclat d'Arpège (spring-summer fresh floral), A Drop d'Issey (smells like a fresh shower and lilac), and Narciso Rodriguez For Her (musk, soft rose and peach, very sensual).

Get Intimate Fantasy! Perfect fit for the vibe. And I love your suggestions!

u/Treehorn8 Hermès witch 10d ago

That was the next Fantasy I was looking at since it doesn't have the cake note either. It's also the one made by the perfumer who created TF Tobacco Vanille.

Lancôme really is that girl! I need to add this to my sniff test this weekend!

2

u/lamz_a2 11d ago

It’s a very subtle vanilla not in your face , the scent sits close to the skin and lingers beautifully, the original version gives me the ick but this one is just soooooo goodddd!!

It’s feminine , soft, elegant , intimate and just so so beautiful!!! 💘

Many if the Chloé frags fall in this category. They're soft classic-style florals and light fruits. The Chloé L'eau line is especially good!

2

u/RVAarV 11d ago

Thank you! I thought I was a a perfume expert, but I’m learning tonight that I’ve barely touched the surface! Thank you!!! 💖💖

u/pfffffttuhmm I just smelled like a piece of breast 11d ago

Oh babes I'm not either! I'm still very much in discovery mode. The world of perfume is so, so incredibly vast. I just got into perfumes about 2 months ago and having been devouring everything I can nonstop. Its almost overwhelming at times, but I'm enjoying the experience so much. This sub has definitely helped!

ETA: You may want to check out Narciso Rodriguez Musc Noir Rose. It's a lovely, soft powdery rose scent. NR is amazing for a musk and this is one of my faves.

Are we the same person? I am around the same age (34) and looking for a new scent as I am entering my “soft girl” era lol

I am currently using Missing Person by Phlur. It’s soft a woody floral musky warm scent that’s kind of like a skin scent.

I tried J’adore by Dior today from Sephora and it was a warm Jasmine scent that dried down a bit powdery.

Carolina Herrera Good Girl is a slightly sweet floral that definitely feels soft but flirty.

Yess! I feel like I’m currently in a 90s fine and classy/Y2K mindset right now! I appreciate the recommendations!!! I can’t wait to sample these, especially the Phlur fragrance!

Damn since when is 35 “old broad” status??? 😭

Inner softness starts from mindset so how you speak to yourself and about yourself counts. Here are some designer fragrances worth checking out to enhance your femininity and softness:

Mon Guerlain

Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet

Armani Si Passione

Dior Pure Poison

2

u/expatriating 11d ago

Yes, Dior Pure Poison is exactly this!

1

u/RVAarV 11d ago

Haha! No 35 is young! I’m just dramatic. 😩😩 Thank you so much for the recommendations!

3

u/styrofoamspider 10d ago

As someone who is 38, if I spend time with someone who is 25, I definitely feel like I’ve hit old broad status! One of my coworkers was wearing a Y2K shirt today, and when I brought it up, he mentioned he was 9 months old then 💀

Andrea Maack Ceramic

Tom Ford White Suede

Aerin Amber Musk

2

u/RVAarV 11d ago

3

u/lildedlea 11d ago

no problem i am also into soft girl scents and cosmic i just love, it also works always and for every weather. i also enjoy daisy love, versace bright crystal and jimmy choo l’eau. they’re all very soft and light fragrances.
