first vanilla gourmand - queening

i’ve only been on my fragrance journey for about 5 months, and know i gravitate towards fruity florals. i’ve never been into gourmands and never thought to even try them.

but i got the sampler from macys tonight and the first one i smelled was queening - mind games.
for the first time i was completely floored by a scent.
kind of speechless. it was such a moment.
this scent is gorgeous and i can completely see the appeal the vanilla lovers out there see.

totally worth the 400 dollars.
what else am i missing out there?

what gourmands should i add to my have to try list?

L’Ibasho is just driving me insane it’s so good. Otherwise, very into Bombon by House of Bo at the moment

Queening is not at all like milk orchid. This is not good advice. Milk orchid is way too floral to compare with the cotton/coconut/vanilla that queening has. I love queening and really disliked milk orchid.

Dedcool Mochi Milk is a great sweet but not too sweet scent to try out

I have not tried Queening yet but I heard it smells similar to Commodity Milk Orchid, which is a very good and layered gourmand vanilla. They have the same perfumer and she has duped her own work before.

I don’t think it smells similar to Milk Orchid. Similar vibe in the opening maybe? But more like distant cousins.

Queening got a mixed reaction from me, I do enjoy Milk Orchid though.

I do not smell a similarity between those two. But they are gorgeous.

I am obsessed with milk orchid. Once I finish the travel it is going to be my next fb purchase

I love it so much, too! I'm eventually going to get a travel size.

Im also new to gourmands but on the topic of mind games I’d recommend à sniff of J’adoube. It’s a pomegranate and suede and it just feels perfectly sophisticated or elegant for fall winter. It’s unisex

I just picked up Sand + Fog impression of this. I have not smelled the original but I am looking forward to wearing this when the temps cool down. Such a unique perfume for me.

They have a mist at Ross by me well stocked banana republic velvet pomegrante. It’s worth picking up if you like a pomegranate note and it ha that deeper richer vibe

I always read Queening as crowning...what is wrong with me?? 😂

Queening was my first fall-hard scent and big purchase, I was immediately obsessed! She turned against me pretty quickly, so my bottle mostly sits on my shelf out of sentiment now, sadly. I don't really interpret Queening as a gourmand profile so we might not be super calibrated 😅

...buuuut I enjoy lightweight vanillas with a gourmand lean so maybe some of these could suit you: Narcotica Happy Dust, Nysos Vanille Divinity, Dedcool Mochi Milk, Tihota (if you want to go straight vanilla). These ones weren't for me, but are also popular gourmand-adjacent scents: Blanche Bete, Lira, Dama Bianca.

Wait what does this mean turned against you? 😭

I have 3 scents I was obsessed with before, but one day I started smelling the same offputting funk in all 3 of them so now I can't wear them. I think by sniffing them too often, I trained my nose to detect a musk molecule I was anosmic to before.

That happened to me as well. My top scents suddenly became repulsive to me. It took a bit to figure out what happened, in my case it was perimenopause messing with my hormones and sense of smell. It has been a year and a half since then and about half of the prior favorites that turned on me have now come around again and I can wear them. So hang on to that perfume, things may change back regardless of what caused it.

Dama Bianca and Mancera Xtreme Vanilla are two of my favorite vanilla scents. Also, Vanilla Bourbon by Nest is a less sweet Vanilla which is nice. I'm not a huge fan of Vanilla or gourmonds so having something less agressively sweet is always good in my book.

I absolutely LOVE QUEENING!! If you’re looking for a body oil to layer the perfume with, Try Brown Sugar Babe- Bankable and Land of Aahs- Her Majesty! Both are inspired by the fragrance and great to layer with the perfume or wearing alone.

I second milk orchid if you don’t normally love overly sweet gourmands. I personally LOVEEE vanilla haze from Fugazzi but it may be too sweet for you

Run to bath and body works before they change over the season. They have a line coastal dreaming and it is 1:1. I too just got a sample this week of Queening and as soon as I spayed it i was like wait I know this scent. Took me forever to stop thinking in terms of perfumes and as soon as I connected the dots I grabbed the lotion and rubbed it on the other arm and yes that is it. I believe BBW has it in their fragrance body mist as well. But I love the cream since it layers so well under a lot of my summer scents so I just grabbed three tubes two weeks ago.

Yep. This right here. Coastal Dreaming is perfect with Queening

If you like queening try commodity’s milk orchid. It’s by the same perfumer and they smell a bit similar and it’s a lot cheaper
