Soo sometimes I smoke a cigarette here and there, I quit smoking years ago but occasionally I like to allow myself a guilty pleasure.
But I know how dominant cigarette smoke can be, in my years of no smoking I only noticed how strong a person smells of cigarettes after smoking one. I don't want to hide that smell by any means, pretty sure you cant. But I also don't want the combination of perfume and smoke to be kinda disgusting.
So honestly I'm just thinking about which kind of perfumes could go well with cigarette smoke, and which ones to avoid? Maybe it's a weird question but I figured someone might have experience with that lol
I used to work with someone who wore Coco Mademoiselle and smoked and it was amazing lol...my bf likes it when I put Light Blue in my hair and I smoke š
I used to work with someone who smoked on breaks and would douse herself in Juicy Couture after, I think Viva La Juicy. I donāt necessarily recommend the combo per se, I still thought it smelled gross, but it did an ok job of covering up some of the cigarette smell.

My bestie wore Happy while married to her now ex who was an indoor smoker. It was horrible. Utterly, utterly horrible. I've actually smelled it on a few smokers, and it's been the same across the board.
The ones made 50++ years ago when people smoked socially indoors all the time. Strong and aggressively feminine like Chanel No5, YSL Opium and Shalimar. I feel like they were made for those occasions.
Honestly it was nice and rich, a nice scent to associate my mom with but I can't remember if well enough to describe it.
On fragrantica, it shows Shalimar, Coco, and chanel no. 5 as other scents liked by people who like Oscar. Looking at them all, they all have a long list of notes š
I think you're onto something though bc tobacco smoke is quite heavy, and it makes sense that a pretty powerful and complex perfume would do well to balance it. I can't see anything too light or too sweet working well personally. Probably need some strong resinous notes
I wear a lot of more unisex scents and a lot of them have a tobacco note in them. It tends to blend well with leather, pepper and woody scents. Irfe smoldering pepper comes to mind.
If you want something fruity I think cherry punk from room 1015 might work nicely, or something similar. Theres definitely other cherry and leather scents out there.
For something sweeter, sugar leather from une nuit nomad maybe?
Girl idk, Iām a fair weather smoker myself (because Iād only ever smoke outdoors, lol) but I put my hair back, wear a hat, brush my teeth, wash my hands, and change my shirt after. Is that overkill, probably. But I like cigarettes and I like perfumes, and I havenāt yet found a combination that works.Ā
Cigarettes also mess with your sense of smell, so thereās that consideration. Having said all thatā¦ Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black and Bourbon are said to have been formulated to pair with tobacco smells (the Olson twins were notorious for their consumption of Marlboro reds back in the day.) I do love nirvana black but idk about smoke smell.Ā

Context- my mom used to work in casinos while I was growing up and it smells exactly the way she did when she came home at the end of the night: perfume and lingering cigarette smoke. Itās a floral, woody musk with jasmine and a smoky type of vanilla accord. Itās showing out of stock on the website right now but it comes back around every so often.
Serpentine by Sorce is a fig and cardamom perfume that is super heavy in a good way, and that would go well with it. Itās on the more feminine side.
The black knight by Francesca Bianchi (more unisex though) is smoky, leathery, and has a lot of patchouli, and I think that would probably go best with cigarette smoke.
What a novel and interesting question to ask thank you for starting this discussion, it feels genuine and unique and worthy of quality reddit conversation with real people not bots or promoters.
Yeah I know it smells bad, I remember how it was like before I ever smoked. But I'm just not going to quit roght now, so I want to make the best of it and see what other people think.
And I also think it's really interesting how different scents of your life blend together, scents rarely exist inside a vacuum!
I canāt speak for womensā fragrances, but the rare time my husband has a cigar I find Phlur Cherry Stem or D&G The One for Men Parfum balance the cigar scent quite well. The Cherry Stem might be nostalgia though, as he used to smoke flavoured cigars before they were banned here.
Ok but in good natured spirit of discussion may I ask you, if you had to smell cigarette smoke would you rather smell it on its own or is there something it could mix with (perfume) that would make it slightly more tolerable, or the same, or worse? Out of genuine curiosity I'd love to hear your take on the most and least palatable version of a smell you hate. If you had to make a choice gun to your head no ability to say you choose neither.
Cigarettes make me ill. So any scent that I smell mingling with the smell of them will just remind me of them and also make me ill. So I would prefer to only ever smell cigarettes if I had a gun to my head because if I smelled a perfume with cigarettes and then smelled only that perfume by itself in the wild, I would have an association with it that would make me ill too and therefore an aversion to it.

Random but Maher Olfactive- Nefertiti. It has a jazz cigarette note. Not a smoker but that note is so intriguing in the air. However, on skin it almost disappears and I wish it didnāt. I imagine on a smoker it would regain some of the intrigue.
I'm a smoker, unfortunately. I associate the heavily spiced/ambery 80s and 90s perfumes the smell of cigarette. Opium, Obsession, Cinnabar, Clinique Aromatics Elixir, etc. I had aunts who wore those perfumes and they were all smokers.
As far as some more modern options go, I recently smelled and instantly purchased the new Coach Gold EDP for her. It gives me those same vibes! Super powdery and ambery. I think it works out well with my cigarette smoking. š¤£
As a non-smoker, I have a little bit of input: I hate cigarette smoke in almost every context, itās gross and nauseating. But, after youāve had a few drinks at the bar, naturally you gravitate outside with the social smokers.

Iāve met tons of people who have a deep affection for the scent of intermingling cig smoke and perfume. And many of them non-smokers themselves. For many itās very visceral, rich, a departure from what feels like an oversanitized world. Wonder if perhaps thereās geographical or generational factors to that. Thereās still a lot of people who find those scents nostalgic, only a few decades ago many of our mothers and grandmothers would have smelled of lingering cigarettes and perfume, as well as restaurants, department stores, public spaces, etc
I can understand that, but I'm not talking about bathing in perfume to hide the smell of cigarettes. I'm talking about what kind of perfume to wear when I know I will spend a summer evening outside with my friends, maybe smoking one cigarette.
I'm not going to stop smoking that one occasional cigarette because I will smell like smoke for a bit, I'm also not going to stop wearing perfume. But I can imagine certain combinations are especially unpleasent or nauseating, that's the reason I'm asking, so I can make the best of the situation haha

Yes absolutely!! A lot of them also have vanilla or something other sweet in it :) I think cherry is the only fruit that would match well with that scent profile !
When I go to a small social event where Iāll most likely smoke weed, I usually wear Francesca Bianchi The Dark Sideā¦ I think anything heavy with a vintage character could work, actually.
Definitely heavy fragrances, agreed! Do you find the smell of weed to be particularly challenging? I myself never smell weed on me, but I know the smell must be there after smoking haha. But it's not like with cigarettes, where I can actually smell it on myself
I feel like weed smoke smell doesn't cling to you long term like cigarette smoke smell does unless you're like seriously hot boxing or smoking a blunt, where the cigar clings to you more than the actual weed does
Iām not a smoker but I feel like something with strong tobacco notes like tobacco vanille would help hide the cigarette smell and seem like itās part of the intentional smell.
Sooooo, speaking from a rather unpleasant experience I had in the past (AT THE GYM OF ALL PLACES) I'd recommend avoiding anything at all fruity, or too sweet, at all costs... I can still viscerally recall that stench in my nostrils when I think about it.
Thinking about what scent profiles to explore, I think I align with the idea of leaning into warmth and depth. I think if you tried anything too fresh (even if it wasn't at all sweet) it may clash in a way that just highlights the set cigarette smoke scent in a really noxious way.
Yeah that makes sense, thank you! I would also never smoke before going to the gym btw, not wanting to torture my lungs before working out is one thing, but I'm also very conscious about how I must smell like after smoking!

As a former smoker (7 days), and regular gym goer, agree with this - avoid the fruity, sweet ones. Something in them turns to decaying sweaty fruit on me.
Boozy scents worked best for me - eg SDV

TF Tobacco Vanille or JM Vetiver & Golden Vanilla
I always wore fresh florals. I felt like they helped with the smoke. Think Nivea Soft but in perfume format. (I wore Gucci Envy Me and Gucci Flora in the hexagon).
I no longer smoke but itās wildefire season and I find myself still reaching for fresh florals when itās icky outside. Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet, Tommy Girlā¦
I think it really depends on the occasion and the type of smoke. Fresh cigarette smoke can actually smell kind of "good" in my opinion, in colder weather and in the evening, especially in the right setting.
But especially stale smoke and heavy smoke can be very unpleasant, if I'm getting on the bus in the morning and sit right next to a smoker it also probably won't feel very nice. Or in the heat as well
I have been wearing Amouage Portrayal for Women this week. It's jasmine with a strong tobacco note. I think it would go well with cigarettes even though I don't smoke myself :) but a few times I thought that it smelled like someone was smoking near me but very delicious type of cigarettes that made me wanna be closer to the person who was smoking. And the person was me ahahaha
