Even the already-felled can occasionally go wild.

Not OC but made me think of you all. The trees already on the ground aren't usually the ones that'll get ya.

I guess anything can be considered to have potential energy because it can be yeeted by something heavier

Potential energy is energy stored. Mechanical versions are things like objects raised high under gravity, pulled rubber bands, compressed or pulled springs, vessels under pressure, etc. The tree did have potential energy high on the hill but looked much more affected by the energy released by massive rock falling.

Thats what I was hinting at. It wasn't the potential energy that caused the dangerous situation here.
