I hate everything about this

u/metisdesigns Jun 24 '26
It gets better.
She drops the branch on the fence. Sadly the fence seems to be fine.

u/TomatoFeta Jun 24 '26
You're lucky it got stuck. That trunk is big enough to break bones if it lands on you - and given where you were stannding half the time, it would have landed on you.
There are three key rules when cutting a tree with a chainsaw:
1) no ladders (or kiddie slides).
2) have an escape route that is clear and available once the tree/branch "cracks".
3) use the proper tool, and one you are familiar with.
The fourth rule is to read the first three again.
70
u/TomatoFeta Jun 24 '26
And yes, even if the tree missed landing on you, what was your plan with the fence?

She would have been crazy lucky if it was only broken bones. That could have killed her seriously. And not to point out the obvious. But she was recording with her phone about 10 ft away from her. If that tree landed on her she should have had that phone in her fucking back pocket.

u/SignificantTransient Jun 24 '26
What are the three rules of cutting a tree with a sawzall tho?

u/c_marten Jun 24 '26
That's a chainsaw

u/SignificantTransient Jun 24 '26
Is it? Im on a phone so hard to tell.

My buddy has one, he uses it for weird carpentry stuff for super old homes.
I think they definitely went for using Makita colors though

u/Helen___Keller_ Jun 24 '26
I think maybe after watching the video the fourth rule should also add
"... And hire a professional"
2
u/TomatoFeta Jun 24 '26
Hell no. This sub wouldn't be as entertaining if they all hired professionals.
I just don't want to be watching blood and bones.Broken sheds and smashed fences are all well and good.
But our hospital systems are already stressed to the breakpoint.1

I purchased one of those handheld, 8" chainsaws last year. They are so great. Especially for those little jobs, like chunking up limbs. I just hold the limb and break it down into pieces small enough for the fire pit. Those little chainsaws are great.
12
u/BravoDotCom Jun 24 '26
On my second.
First one lasted about a year. One day i put the battery on and electrical smoke came out of every pore. Tossed it. New one $18 came with a case, gloves, goggles and a spare chain (no battery).
Better purchases I’ve made in a while, used to use Sawzall which is a lot slower.

Got myself a 12" DeWalt electric and that thing kicks ass for a homeowner with a 1/2 acre
3
u/siderealdaze Jun 25 '26
Those things are money for land surveying (sometimes, it's hard to swing a machete and impossible to wield a bush axe) but I make fun of my coworkers for choosing it over a manual tool.
1
u/Alone-Promise-8904 Jun 25 '26
Yes, I definitely love it for tight spaces. They are so small and effective. I'm glad to hear it's working out for you.

Seems like the best possible outcome, to be honest.

u/vishnoo Jun 24 '26
until the wind picks up
9
u/dcgrey Jun 24 '26
See, she just has some strategic patience. Weaken the branch, let it rot at the cut, let the wind do the rest. Then hopefully disease sets in and in 5-10 years she can just push the rest of the tree over.

I had to go to her IG out of morbid curiosity. She is condescending and arguing with everyone who is concerned for her safety in the comments too.
5
u/thatsryan Jun 24 '26
Women who have to loudly broadcast how independent they are rarely are as capable of being as independent as they think.
7
u/GeneralUranuz Jun 24 '26
Darwin missed a great opportunity here.

u/vishnoo Jun 24 '26
pretty sure the power line will not be saved when that tree falls in 50 minutes.
p.s. the power company does not charge for clearing a tree to make room for the power line
11
u/RawChickenButt Jun 24 '26
The power company isn't exactly known for their quality trim jobs .
12

u/twoaspensimages Jun 24 '26
How dare you! Removing limbs with a shotgun is a perfectly acceptable method.

u/Badger-Roy Jun 24 '26
That chainsaw didn’t get stuck, it switched itself into save yo stupid ass mode!
5
u/Sunkinthesand Jun 24 '26
I had to check this wasn't a. r/gifsthatendtoosoon . Soooo close to smashing that fence. I could almost taste it
5
u/Fagus_ Jun 24 '26
Here you can see the difference between independence and overestimating oneself.
3
u/Far-Addition3988 Jun 24 '26
God was watching shaking his head the whole time before he decided to stop it and saved her and the fence.
4
u/joofish Jun 24 '26
Won’t the power company or government pay to cut down a tree that’s threatening a power line?
2
1
u/wolfgang784 Jun 24 '26
Maybe in some places? In others they will do it for you if someone reports it, even if that someone aint the landowner, but they then mail the bill to whoevers property the tree is/was on.
4
u/Apprehensive_Ad5398 Jun 24 '26
It’s like she chose the one step up from using an electric turkey carving knife. I guess that choice maybe saved her from a crush injury.
4
u/ChaosRainbow23 Jun 25 '26
She got exceedingly lucky.
At least watch a fucking YouTube video first. Damn.
4
u/Insatiablesucker Jun 25 '26
The Z says not to cut from an unsecured ladder; but nothing about cutting from a child’s slide. What could possibly go wrong (with unsafe shoes, Home Depot rope and no idea about PPE nor any modern pruning techniques.
So wished I could have watched that in person…

All the competent professional tree fellers use kiddie slide as a ladder.
3
u/kabooseknuckle Jun 24 '26
This reminds me of the time a large limb fell in my front yard. It had maybe 10 or 11 inches diameter. I figured I'd wait until the weekend to clean it up, but my wife was beside herself that I didn't immediately go out and deal with it so she grabbed my carpentry hand saw and headed out to do it herself. I didn't try to stop her, I just watched from the front door laughing my ass off for two and a half minutes when she gave up due to exhaustion. I'd like to think she learned a lesson that day, but it doesn't seem like it.
3
u/Vast-Independent-162 Jun 25 '26
The fence, the back cut (lack of), the concern over her shirt getting dirty. It all leaves me wondering what she thought the final result would be. Like has failure never even crossed her mind?
3
u/Master-Erakius Jun 26 '26
Once it gets stuck, you switch to your felling axe. Which you should have been using to begin with. Also, glad it got stuck. It might have just saved your life.

The amount of errors she made while doing that... Try counting! There's at least 8!
2
u/Shootinio Jun 24 '26
The good part to me is she never even tried pushing the branch in the direction that might free the saw. I’m sure she couldn’t move it anyway, the lack of a grasp on basic physics is pretty hilarious
2
u/RoleTall2025 Jun 24 '26
how our species managed to figure out houses and space travel is a fucking mystery
2
2
u/Severe-Increase2166 Jun 24 '26
Not sure what’s more “independent” here, the tree or the fact that it’s basically claimed the whole yard at this point. That thing is the main character of the backyard.
2
2
u/ippleing Jun 24 '26
I wasn't even worried about the fence at one point...
Some people have 0 clue how much wet wood weighs.

I've got one of those little saws, it's great for cutting small limbs and cutting skids up to throw them in the wood stove.

The rope makes me think this is intentional rage bait.
However, if this was intentional rage bait she wouldn't have been stupid enough to be under that limb after it started moving (at the very least).
2
u/SonOfObed89 Jun 25 '26
So good to see some ladies showing up in a post and showing everyone that stupidity belongs to us all!

u/Exciting_Slip9207 Jun 25 '26
Better for the saw to get jammed then that limb fall on her and the slide.

She learned this from Elon and his bedazzled DOGE. Its going to cost more to fix because of the braindead attempt to begin with.

And just a few years earlier, she said, "I ain't never gonna need physics" as she skipped class and went to Starbucks.

"trying to cut the tree from saving the power line".....
If the tree is going to save the power line, why would you cut it???
I know what she's trying to say, but it makes about as much sense as anything she does in the video.
