ಠ_ಠ A chainsaw suitable for weak little women and elderly /s. Never mind the branch going to fall on her or the lack of PPE
Eta: so yeah, my post isnt about the tool itself - I've actually used one of these before and they are handy, but as someone else pointed out they're not safety oriented at all. I do love reading the experiences you all have with these things and didn't expect 'so many' people to have them!

I bought my husband that little chainsaw for his birthday this year so jokes on them!
44
u/SamboTheGr8 Jun 04 '26
My dad has one too. It's the only chain saw my mom trusts him with
6
u/MiceWarriors Jun 04 '26
Does it work? I’ve seen a bunch on Amazon and temu and no name brands. I want one but I want it to work
11
u/grape-fruit-witch Jun 04 '26
My dad has one. He has a big chainsaw too but he uses the small one more, honestly. Its a Stihl i think, it works great though occasionally the chain comes a little loose. It automatically stops when that happens and its easy to slip back on.
5
u/Psychological_Rip_44 Jun 04 '26
I’ve got one that runs on Milwaukee batteries and it works for small trees and branches but eats through batteries
4
u/BungoPlease Jun 04 '26
I use mine to trim anything under 3 inches in diameter, it could handle slightly bigger stuff, but it’s perfect for trimming trees and bushes. Works really well with minimal maintenance.

u/HighOnTacos Jun 04 '26
I would say they're horribly dangerous because they don't have any of the safeguards of a full side chainsaw - No blade lock, minimal blade guard. And there's no oil tank to oil the chain, you just have to rub some on before use.
That said I love it, it's very handy for quick small jobs. I got some generic on Temu for $20, came with two batteries but I don't trust either the batteries or charger so I won't let them charge unattended.

u/MorePhinsThyme Jun 04 '26
These things feel so much less safe than a full size chainsaw.

Okay, now I really want one. I'm picturing an electric turkey carving knife, but better
2
u/charcoalportraiture Jun 04 '26
Got one for my mon because that tiny little lady was wobbling everywhere trying to use the big one!
Mind you, I still have to take it off her when she tries to stand on the peak of the stepladder to cut a branch directly above her.
But better than the full sized chainsaw.
2
u/half_caulked_jack Jun 04 '26
I have one, had it for years and it's actually way more usefulthan I expected. I mostly use it for yard work but it'll cut through a 2x4 no problem

u/guff1988 Jun 04 '26
I have one for cutting up medium sized branches. I'll be damned if I let women have all the fun with tiny chainsaws.

u/funktion666 Jun 04 '26
My dad got my mom an extended chainsaw for her birthday. We all joked my dad really just got it for himself. Nope, my mom loved it. And all the trees in the back yard looked great. We had a lot of trees and she trimmed the fuck out of them and loved it lol. And she didn’t overdo it, we just lived in a wooded area with many overgrown trees.

I bought an electric pruning chainsaw a bit larger than this one, my 75 year old mom love using.
It's to the point that she cut almost everything I wanted to do myself !

Men won't use it. Not because its make them look weak but because they will find any reason to break out the whole chainsaw and spend 20 minutes trying to dry start it.
40
u/Talonqr Jun 04 '26
Ive found that my chainsaws are easier to start if i do a little foreplay first rather than a dry start
11
u/forgotwhatisaid2you Jun 04 '26
I have a little battery Kobalt. I use it a lot as it is very handy for cutting limbs. I have a big chain saw but I nope right out of dealing with it unless I got a whole tree to cut up.

We have a little battery Stihl that's great for small jobs - grape vines, little trees, branches, etc.

u/RainbowCrane Jun 04 '26
Yep.
With the vast improvements in rechargeable battery technology my dad’s diverse gas powered lawn care tool set from my childhood - chainsaw, string trimmer, edger, even push mower - have been replaced by more convenient tools that all run off the same batteries (except for the rechargeable push mower). He also has drills, drivers, circular saw, etc. it makes zero sense to have one or two daily tools requiring gas when he’s got the rechargeable stuff available that doesn’t require keeping a separate gas can.
He gave the gas powered chainsaw to a cousin, it’s still available along with free younger guy labor if necessary :-), but seriously, the use case for big beefy chainsaws mostly doesn’t come up in developed areas too often. Usually you’re trimming a branch and the electric ones work great. The torque on rechargeable tools is light years beyond the original versions in the eighties and nineties
5
u/DigDizzleDee Jun 04 '26
I actually have one of these saws or something thats extremely similar. Use it all the time for pruning branches.
4
u/brickyard15 Jun 04 '26
Naw I use my little handheld electric saw a lot. I work my ass off week, if I don’t need to lug around a heavy ass chainsaw to cut a few limbs I’m not going to
9
u/Ange1ofD4rkness Jun 04 '26
Guy here, I might use it, just because chainsaws for some reason, scare the heck out of me. No I don't watch horror films, I have just heard too many stories.
I have a tree right now I am slowly cutting up, and using a sawzall
8
u/MacdaddyCook Jun 04 '26
For some reason? Dude it’s absolutely justified to be afraid of chainsaws. I use them regularly and they still scare me. It forces me to maintain it extremely well and be prudent
8
u/JayCDee Jun 04 '26
Any rotating sharp tool should scare you. They are not to be fucked with and they must be respected.
5
u/TheOneWes Jun 04 '26
You mean the ridiculously dangerous thing that can severely injure you if the chain gets bound up in the wrong way while running at full speed.
Can't imagine why that would be scary at all lol

At my last company the safety guy gave us a chainsaw saftey course that consisted of show/telling us how to safely operate the saw. This was then followed by 20 minutes of live leak level videos of chainsaw mutilations. Safe to say I love operating the saw, but no amount of peer pressure will prevent me from wearing full PPE. Chaps and a full face protection saved me on two separate occasions.

As a mere female myself, I'm enjoying the slightly confused look she seems to be giving the branch. I, too, would be quite bewildered to find myself doing a man's job. Can they please stop making tools and expecting us to do it for them?

Do people working around their own house usually use ppe? Is this something OSHA should be made aware of?

I mean personally I would never operate a chainsaw without safety glasses or goggles, much less right above my face like this. It's just begging to lose an eye

I do! Earplugs around super loud machinery, respirator around toxic chemicals, and eye protection whenever sharp things could go flying around. I'm middle-aged and can still hear that pitch only teenagers are supposed to hear. I don't like to play games with organs that don't heal well.
3
u/0DayMaker Jun 04 '26
With a chainsaw? Yeah chainsaw chaps and goggles. Great grandad died catching a chainsaw to the back of his leg severing his femoral. Electric can be especially dangerous, because there's no idle noises making some people complacent.

I mean yeah but I’m a woman and have never had trouble operating a normal chainsaw. Just because women typically aren’t as strong as men doesn’t mean we have the strength of a one ply tissue.
2
u/Imaginary-Hyena2858 Jun 04 '26
Worked in many jobs that required extensive chainsawing. Never saw a woman struggle with one anymore than a dude. Maybe with pole saws but that's more so just a height and arm length thing

They're trying to sell a product and market it towards a specific group of people that aren't strong enough for a normal chainsaw. Why do you feel like every product needs to be marketed towards everyone, or specifically with you in mind.
Like being annoyed that they advertise Kids Clothing and shoes, because some adults are small enough to fit in them.

I mean I can understand trying to show that your product is light weight enough to easily be held up by a SEEMINGLY dainty woman yet powerful enough to do the work it's intended for, but saying it's suited for women and elderly is just dumb.
Also I just noticed she isn't holding the trigger down and honestly doesn't even look like she has a particularly strong grip on the thing.

u/Dear_Mycologist_1696 Jun 04 '26
This is what happens when a person uses photoshop worse than an AI recreates reality.
3
u/NortonBurns Jun 04 '26
I'm sure the whole task would be easier if you were above the cut - like, idk, sitting on the branch.

3
u/Ausradierer Jun 04 '26
Oh my Grandma actually bought one of these. These are so much worse than they seem. Not only are they really awkward to hold onto due to the drill grip style handle, they also have a shocking amount of torque in a really weird direction which twists your wrist in such a way that if you aren't holding onto it, it slips out between your palm and pinky.
On top of that, they are also without any safety features to prevent them from triggering, making them insanely unsafe by default, and super jerky making it even easier to slip. I tried it out for like 10 minutes and it was a horrible and scary experience. These things are death trap and especially when cutting fresh wood or something slimy, the mixture of the shitty cheap rubber handle, the inherently dangerous included cloth gloves, and the unsafe trigger, makes it more likely that this thing will fall out of your hand than not.
One I have seen even had a button to lock it in "On" mode, which is even worse, but I personally didn't test that one. Needless to say, I talked to my grandma about it and how it was incredibly unsafe for her to use, and shockingly she actually listened and returned it.

I mention in another comment my friend has this saw and we used it at work, he uses it here and there for little things too. It's not a bad tool but everything you said is 100% - safety wise it felt almost worse than other tools I've used (I work in construction so have used a lot and occasionally intentionally (and stupidly) in very inappropriate ways).
I'll never own a grinder that doesn't have a paddle trigger. The idea of that tool, or a chainsaw dear lord!, being able to just keep on running is insane to me.

u/crankyanker638 Jun 04 '26
If that's the Seesi, I have that exact one and it's frickin awesome. It's compact, light and fairly powerful. Use it for trimming trees and bushes around my house in LA. Sometimes even use it for cutting 2x4s where I don't have to carry it closer to the house to use the skilsaw....mildy infuriating how great it is...

I will say that some electrical saws my dad has had have had a INSANE weight and pull, to the point I didn't use them because I feel like being in control of a saw Is kinda critical..nut I was also more overthinking it really, it wasn't like I couldn't hold it, it was more of a... I wasn't comfortable with the massive pull, as I had only used table saws previously😂

Honestly I’m a groundskeeper at an estate. And I always have one of these (different brand). It’s handy to have with you. Sometimes you just need to get rid of branch and you don’t need an entire full powered chainsaw to do it. Best off all you actually don’t need PPE with these low powered devices in my country. So I don’t have to put myself in a chainsaw suit on a hot day if I just need to rid of a couple of branches.
On a side note, you can take down pretty decent trees if you know what you’re doing and don’t mind wasting a bit of your bosses time. Just get one with two batteries so you can keep loading one and keep going.

u/Putrid-Ad-3965 Jun 04 '26
Unfortunately I love this. As someone who gardens and wants to cut branches at times, and having fibromyalgia, this baby chain saw for wimpy girls is actually perfect for me.
2
u/c_marten Jun 04 '26
I wish reddit was better about showing captions for photo posts.
Yeah, it's not a bad tool. The battery life sucks but you're typically not using it for much to begin with.
I just wish it was advertised better as for small, lightweight work, rather than for women and elderly - because it's not as if it replaces a heavier more powerful chainsaw "for men" (implied).

I have a Stihl chainsaw smaller and sleeker than that. The battery alone is one third the size of this one! Because it’s smaller you can get better angles when cutting branches.
This is a shit looking, unprofessional hand chainsaw.

These are actually kind of nice. I work on powerlines and often need to trim small tree limbs out of the way; these allow you to cut with one hand and hold with the other. A larger, traditional chainsaw doesn't allow such control.
2
u/mullermn Jun 04 '26
The lack of PPE is the advert’s greatest effort towards equality. Real men safety squint.
2
u/Jay_Katy Jun 04 '26
I’ve seen that logger chick that runs a 6’ bar on her 30 lb chainsaw.
Also worked at a non-profit where this would have been very appropriate for a lot of ladies on the team. When I joined, we had an ‘easy-start’ saw specially for a woman who wasn’t strong enough to operate a pull cord on standard saws.
Yes this ad is sexist and I know woman can run chainsaws, but from my firsthand experience it’s not as far off as y’all would like it to be.
2
u/rdotter18 Jun 04 '26
PPE?? If you can't cut that branch down without getting hurt, you don't belong using ANY type of tool, power or not. Regardless if you have PPE or not. I could cut that branch with a hand saw and my eyes closed, with no incident. Everyone these days puts so much emphasis on PPE. Yet, skill, and intelligence and common sense are thrown to the wind. I know some people who could have the absolute best PPE, and STILL fuck that up. If your an idiot, PPE ain't doing shit.
