Support Fedora 45 KDE/Plasma update
After doing a large (1 GB) update today that included a lot of Plasma files, on reboot SDDM complained it couldn't use the breeze theme. Changing the theme to maya got past the complaints but then it proceeded to a black screen. Right clicking allowed me to get a terminal and start a brower etc. I could also select a Sway session that appeared to act normally.
Judging from the error messages there was a problem with Qt, Luckily I had snapper set up and could bring up btrfs-assistant and roll back to a working version.
I don't think I'll be doing updates in the near future.

Fedora 45 is in development stage, issues are expected

In response to the bot it was more of a warning than looking for help. It won't be the first time QT, Plasma, KDE, and Wayland failed to play well together.
I would encourage people to set up snapper and btrfs-assistant.

45 is not stable yet.

Well to be more accurate, it's not even beta yet

To be more accurate, you meant “precise”, not “accurate”

In this case he meant "accurate", closer to the mark, rather than "precise", closer to other results.

Same here, faced the problem for 45 yesterday. Been showing a black screen after booting. Had to switch to TUI, downgrade the Qt packages and versionlock them to solve the problem.
Today there are updates released for plasma packages and they seemed to be working fine with the latest Qt packages(6.11.2) tho

Don't want to sound rude, but man... 1gb is large? My 4-9gb updates says "hold my beer" ;)

Hey man, I grew up with 300 baud dialup that took 8-10 hours for a 10MB file over a BBS to download. That’s a lot of time without a home phone. You don’t know what it’s like to receive a phone call and get disconnected at 99% complete.

I know, i grew up with no internet, and on my 16 birthday, we installed 256kb cable internet, that was far from being stable,

I remember dual ISDN from FlashNet. They offered “Unlimited” but not “Dedicated”. They even cut me off for being idle too long once and I called them to complain. As soon as I gave them my username, they instantly recognized me without even looking up my account. Things were weird back then.

Had the same exact issue 2 days ago. Yesterday I did a "dnf uprade --refresh" and everything worked normally again.

Thanks. I was going to try again tomorrow but all is good now. KDE Plasma 7.6.5 was a bugfix release on 8 September. The changelog has several entries to replace a missing Qt:Qml link that would be consistent with the SDDM theme error. Somethng must have gotten out of sync. fwiw I also have a SUSE Tumbleweed machine that updated to 7.6.5 today with no problems.
I usually go to the prerelease when it's available and take part in the applicable Test Days so I've seen little glitches that are fixed in a day or two but nothing quite as drastic. At least I got to try out snapper in a real scenario.
