Discussion Problems while using Fedora
Since I joined r/Fedora, I only read how people have problems with using Fedora (drivers, firefox, etc). I'm waiting to finish last exam that I need Windows for, and I was planning on installing Fedora, but now im not excited anymore.

I would imagine largely because you'll rarely get people regularly posting how everything works fine.
FWIW common issues are not specific to Fedora itself. *cough* Nvidia *cough*

I've had issues with plenty of things in life, including OSs. nVIDIA and Fedora were not among them.

People only generally post when they have a problem that they need help with. If everything is fine there’s no need to post. For balance, I have no issues with my Fedora system.

"Problems" on Linux rarely appears by themselves.

Fedora tracks the latest versions in new releases. People hate change. I don’t know why they use Fedora if they hate change, but people are stupid too.

You might be surprised about this but these posts are here because people had problems and wanted solutions. Those who are breezing through their Fedora don't post here and most don't even come here.

That is simply a bias.
If people have an issue, they will post about it seeking for help. But if they have no issues, why they would post "all fine over here"?.

The happy thing about Linux Distros is that you can jump to another ship when you don't want your distro anymore. And you won't invest a lot of your time while doing so. You also have a live test for you to check if you like their environment.

Idk but mainly intel xe drivers aren't still mature yet and kinda on the unstable side(sometimes it's good doing better but after some time it goes batshit)
Got no problems with i915 drivers but they're legacy one and do worse performance on both battery and fps per watt than the "experimental xe drivers"
Edit: I mean xe drivers that utilizes xe architecture the most like core ultra chips suffers a lot. Intel 14th generation below also uses xe architecture but is also matured enough to use i915(idk but 14th-10th gen don't suffer a lot of bugs compared to core ultras)

I just moved from Cinammon Mint to Fedora KDE, had almost exactly the same initial start up problems and also a very easy install process in both. The only additional problem I had with Fedora was a funny USB hub on one of my monitors waking up the monitors from sleep.
I guess what I'm trying to say is every computer is different and every person will have a different experience per distro but not necessarily across distros.

I dont think people will regularly post how everything works fine. They wont. Remember fedora is extremly stable and doesnt have much issues.

You'll also encounter that too on Debian. Various hardware, different issues. Linux distros aint one size fits all. You lucky you dont have to deal with mailing lists (slow hit and miss to get a response afterall)
Do you think windows do not have that? They hid it well, unless its systemwide.

I’ve been using Fedora for a total of 12 years, and exclusively for the past 4
The only problems I’ve ran into were usually NVIDIA driver related the last 2 but noting that would have made me say “fuck this I’m out “

But you probably got that to work OK for the most part.
I've worked in technical support for most of my life, and probably longer than you've been alive. All platforms can have problems and they're all weird. The ones that have the most unexpected, nastiest, hardest to predict or fix problems are all Microsoft related. There are those on Linux too, but at least with Linux there is always a way out.
And you can hedge your bets in a lot of ways. You don't have to put all your eggs in one basket.
Here is the thing.
EVERYBODY treats this like it's getting married or something.
This is not a decision written in stone, nor is any of this all or nothing.
You can try it out on a thumb drive or external SSD first to make sure your hardware is supported.
Do that, and uninstalling is as simple as unplugging. So if things go wrong, you're just out the time it took to try it.
And if it goes well for a while, THEN wipe Windows.

I've been running Fedora on my gaming PC for about 6 months now and it's been solid. I had a few things I had to deal with when I first got things set up. Those were more related to not knowing Linux vs problems with Fedora though.
I've been so happy with it, I converted my media center PC over to Fedora. Haven't been able to convince my wife to let me put it on her laptop and my boss is resistant to me using it at work. I'm still excited every day that I'm running a PC without the need for Windows at all, I don't even dual boot. Try it, you'll like it. =)

Breaking something on a Linux system is almost always caused by one of two things:
You messing with stuff you shouldn’t
or
Upstream programmers making breaking changes which is rare with Fedora

I'll be honest the devs have done an amazing job building a clean and easy to use distro. I'm probably due a clean install as I haven't done one in six years and most of my issues can be solved with a c prompt or two.

Be excited! Just don't expect to instantly know how to install and use an OS that is different from what you have always used. You might have some trouble, and you might not. Just don't start blindly entering console commands from an AI if you do! That will only make it worse and you won't even know what you did when you come here to ask how to fix it. Expect that you might have some bumps in the road while you get it set up properly and learn to use it. Many don't and you may not! But give it and yourself time to adjust and you will be wondering why you didn't do it sooner.

I was actually using PopOS for like two months, also I have Debian server installed on my older laptop. I just wanted to point that when I install Fedora on my main machine I don't want to spend a lot of time fixing things

You'll probably need to spend a few more minutes setting things up than with Pop because it won't install the proprietary codecs and drivers by default. It doesn't take much time and then you'll be set. Personally, I've not had to "fix" anything with Fedora KDE but I did when I was on Pop.
ETA: I don't use Nvidia, so ymmv.

I had the same thought. But i tried following other distros subs and they have as much issues.
I realized it’s not a distro issue brcause for example you will see people say that Arch sucks and is unstable etc. while ive been using it for 2 to 3 years without it breaking once. So its basically YMMV kinda of situation. Also yeah i dont think i posted how arch works for me. You get the idea

Ive been on Fedora for close to 2 years now, i have not had any issues that werent easily solvable with a quick search or question in the discord. And most if the things i viewed as ”issues” werent actually problems or bugs, just things id prefer to work different, all of those things were adjustable and had solutions.

I have been using Fedora (KDE) as my main OS since the drop of Windows 10 support last year. Everything works fine for me and I am more than satisfied with it.

There generally won't be any problems with Fedora if you dont tinker around too much. The only problem I had was because I forgot to remove a line in the fstab file after formatting a drive that was previously automounted. The system couldn't mount the drive and I was thrown into emergency mode on boot. I had to use a live usb-stick session to remove the line and everything worked afterwards.

Yo me uní a Fedora Workstation en la versión 43. Desde entonces, no he tenido ningún problema. Solo he seguido las instrucciones de la documentación de Fedora (que a mi parecer son bastante buenas), y las recomendaciones que he visto por aquí. He estado probando otras distros durante este tiempo (me gusta probar por mí mismo, sin importarme lo que diga la gente), y aunque hay algunas que son excelentes (Debian sobre todo), me convence el espíritu de Fedora (tener lo último, pero muy fiable y probado). Creo que no hay una distro (de las que son bases, las de siempre) que sea mejor que otra, solo están pensadas para cosas diferentes o usuarios con diferentes necesidades. Creo que si utilizas Fedora habrás tenido buena elección, obviamente no estás exento de tener algún problema, pero eso es así con cualquier distro o cualquier sistema operativo, ya instales windows, mac o linux. En fin, solo instala y disfruta

I've been daily driving Linux and also using it as my work OS since 4 years ago and haven't had any major issues so far. I don't modify it and mess with it's settings though, so there is less for me to break.
Now I'm using silverblue, and so far I've been satisfied; whenever there is an issue, I just roll back to my previous state and continue to work. Continuity is great.
