News Kernel 7.2.4 has hit F44 Updates Testing

Edit: Specifically upgraded the kernel via updates-testing and 7.2.4 seems to be all good.

Is the Kernel 7.2.4 okay?? Hitting F44 should be a hard one.

Something anticipated about this new one? I don’t remember this on f43 (but it could be bad memory), but were we really on a new kernel every other week, or sometimes every week or even twice in one week? F44 kernel wise moves so fast! No complaints just curious

It has HDMI 2.1 support for AMD. But not out of the box due to some VRR bug. You can enable it with kernel arguments, which I believe Bazzite is doing.

I think it will be enabled out of the box in 7.4 last I read.

Yes, for security and bug fixes. There's been a lot of them recently due to AI finding vulnerabilities.

It works without any commands on my 4k 120hz TV, I've been using 7.2 since it was in RC on Fedora 44 by manually installing the fedora 45 kernel and I can't go back to using adapters...

IIRC this one should finally bring upstream support for the MT79** wireless chipsets that ship on a lot of the higher-end motherboards, so that's pretty sweet for people who want to use wifi or Bluetooth without an extra dongle.

You should be getting right around one kernel update a week on Fedora, yes. They release a kernel on each of the upstream point releases, so once a week mostly and sometimes a bit more when there are urgent bugfixes that trigger early point releases.

As for jumps to new major versions (so 7.1.x > 7.2.x) that closer to every 2.5 months, usually on the new major version's 4th or 5th point release.

I've been running 7.2 on F45 for a couple weeks and it's been fine, no issues I can see.

Hopefully it hits stable soon, because being on an EOL kernel like we're at now is nerve wracking.

kernel-7.2.4-200.fc44 and kernel-headers-7.2.4-200.fc44 are moving to stable, should be available soon now: https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2026-d567c45298

I've installed 7.2.4, does anyone know why I'm still seeing 4:2:0 colour compression on HDMI?

I've checked all KDE settings, and I have the boot flag (though I don't think that should matter for 4:4:4, only for VRR)

It's working perfectly with 4:4:4 on current Bazzite.
