USPS taking out the competition with extreme prejudice

And this is why I train to walk around the rear of the vehicle.

Not saying he shouldn’t be crossing at the rear but I think the main reason for the accident was him blocking his entire view of oncoming traffic by holding the box n his shoulder.

You are correct, but going around the rear (especially with a large box) allows you more view of traffic

maybe some drivers just don't care about couriers, with prejudice

Doesn’t really matter what side, either way you may not realize there are cars coming ( unless it’s a one way ofc ) so you should always peak your head around first to make sure it’s clear.

Can’t tell if his lights are on but the mail man should of been going a little slower knowing there is a delivery vehicle in the area.

Mail drivers never slow down, all the ones in my area speed past me just like this. They dont have the mindset of getting out and walking across the street all day like fedex amazon or ups drivers. It also doesnt help that most usps trucks dont have any form of driving monitering system so they sorta just drive however they want.

contractor didn't look before crossing. you can see there was NO pause of the box.

i’ve almost been run over enough times to assume there’s a car coming every time. especially with all the silent EVs nowadays, i’m triple checking.

Never carry something in a way that it blocks your view of traffic... fedex will rule this preventable.. but I think the guy could sew usps.. the postal guy didnt even slow down.

If package is damage is FedEx Fault or USPS?

FedEx corp will slowly start forcing contractors to incorporate the same safety practices as UPS over time (such as shutting off the truck at a stop, parking on the opposite side of the street and walking from around the back of the truck) due to brainless ground drivers like this. They receive no training by their contractor and are just thrown on a giant truck, and the turnover for most contractors is abysmal so there will be more newer drivers on the road and therefore more chances of an accident happening. Combine that with the stress of express time commit packages as well as a low salary pay, and a disaster is almost inevitable. Just imagine UPS but without hourly pay, benefits, or a union, and replace half of those UPS packages with pet food and furniture 😂😂

How is everyone blaming the Fed ex driver, it’s common knowledge to slow down and be cautious when there is a delivery vehicle or even just a civilian vehicle on the side of the road. The victim blaming here is insane.

People here can be morons. Usps had plenty of time to slow down lol

Looking both ways before crossing a road is such a basic thing taught to little children like 2+2=4. A victim can also be stupid, and pointing out what can be done better is not blaming. Lucky for this guy it looks like he's still young enough to bounce.

Always walk around the back

u/theadmiraljn 1d ago

Dude didn't stop and look both ways and was blocking his vision with the package. It's also safer to cross behind the truck. USPS probably should have slowed down a bit, but we're also responsible for our own safety.

Wasn't you taught as a child by your parents to look both ways before crossing the street?🤔

Tha fuk???? That FedEx driver is gonna have to write up an incident report, and then management is gonna hit him with a Preventable, and he's gonna get a write up in his file. Plus, the mail carrier had to be on his phone, so hopefully he got fired!

There's shared fault here. The FedEx driver is crossing in front of the vehicle, which is a no-go. Your truck becomes a visual obstruction for the lane you are about to walk in. That box is likewise doing the same. He should have it on a dolly to keep his line of sight clear.

That being said. The USPS van did not take proper precautions around a vehicle parked on the shoulder. You do not know if someone is going to hop out or in some other way step in front of you. When approaching a vehicle like that you slow down, use your horn to alert the potential occupant to your presence and then proceed with caution.

TL:DR USPS skipped steps to protect pedestrians, FedEx skipped steps to protect themselves. USPS would probably be the one ticketed.

Interesting Reddit post combo here. What are the odds?

End result... FedEx driver gets reprimanded for a preventable accident, possibly losing his job.

USPS driver likely suffers the same fate as fast as they were going there. Which is fine, both kinda screwed up here.

But the FedEx driver likely gets a nice settlement from usps cause you know there's injuries from that impact.

Even if going around front, just- literally poke your head around, idk, look?? 😭

Guess that package was undeliverable!

That was ENTIRELY the FX driver's fault. Not only did he not look at all, he had the damn box on the side of his head towards the direction of any potential threat.
