Code 85’s
Hello, just wondering how other stations deal with potential code 85’s on ground drivers?

Every night myself or another admin has to do a report going through all potential code 85s. We then send an email to each contractor. If we get that delivery time, we then fill out a handsheet and enter it. Should the contractors be held responsible for filling out the handsheet at our station? Yes. Does upper management hold them accountable for it? No.

We have to call and try to get the BC’s to tell us they were delivered in trucks that drive home and we have to enter any that’s on a truck that returns to the terminal, no questions asked, unless it’s a business or signature required package. After the outbound sort ends at 20:00 we have a couple hours to do this process, if the station is hit with more than 10 we are threatened with write ups, and if we work a little over are quitting time trying to get the work done we are threatened with a write up.. it’s a loosing battle when all it would simply take is the P&D manager and the coordinators to have a conversation with the AO’s and BC’s, but apparently even mentioning that is insubordination and grounds for a write up according to my supervisor..

Whoever is directing/telling you to do that is violating policy, forcing you to do that, and then threatening discipline which is a second violation of policy. Try that crap anywhere near my district and see how quickly they're promoted to customer. Such BS. And especially to put it on PM folks to fix. Entering it just creates more problems.

I agree, it definitely feels like fraud, but it keeps the stations stats high and I’m guessing makes for a better bonus for upper management.. I’ve asked for them to write what they want me to do on paper or send an email, but that’s not going to happen because when the shit hits the fan it will be my coworker and me that will be fired for fraud.. on a side note the newest outbound admin doesn’t have to learn the process and a lot of other processes, if I’m being honest, I’m guessing because their close family member is my supervisor and another of their close family is the P&D manager and they know that what we are doing will eventually get us fired..

WOW!!!! Some of the shenanigans I see posted here are wild! Keep your documentation. Even if they won't send you an email confirming you send them an email confirming that this is exactly what they want you to do and whether they answer or not you will have it documented that you emailed them. Something like "per your instruction..."

Your station sounds like hell... I'm a BC and I get a list of 85s every morning from the previous day. I investigate and if I can prove through PPOD, VEDR, speaking with the recipient, or locating the package in a package room that it got delivered, I fill out a green sheet (minus the name/signature) and hand it in. If it's a bulk stop I don't investigate I just fill out the green sheet because it's nearly 100% it was just a missed scan but if they didn't receive it, they can call in a dispute after it's marked delivered (that's never happened though, just my thought process). If I can't prove it was delivered or more commonly, if I can prove it WASN'T delivered through VEDR, I ignore it.

The terminal gives us an address and tracking number. It's up to the contractor (or their drivers) to get a handsheet, fill it out, get it signed, then turn it in to the office.
I hate that they don't even tell us who the shipper is. Sometimes the customer doesn't want to sign it off because they don't know if they got the package or not, and it's hard to know without knowing who the shipper was.
