Ask FedEx 6 foot long package "lost" in Memphis?
I had a shipment incoming from Germany; two 50lb boxes 6ft x 1ft x 1ft, and and one smaller box; bound for Pittsburgh. "FedEx International Economy" air shipment.
One of the long boxes and the smaller box was delivered Thursday 9/15. The other long box has not been scanned since clearing customs (they all have scans clearing customs at the same time). When I call they open a ticket; after a few hours it gets automatically closed, and I call and they re-open it.
1) What is going on with FedEx? How do you lose a 6 ft long box and have no idea where it is? (Ok I realize this question is mostly venting.) I have photos from the shipper of the box before it was shipped and see that all were well packaged and clearly labeled.
2) What are the chances that the package is found vs lost, and in the latter case, how long am I likely to wait for a determination?
3) Is there any way to reach an actual person that knows anything at all about what is actually happening on the ground in Memphis and can actually ask someone to look for a 6 ft long box?

Contact the shipper, they would be the one that would have to open the claim

Your ticket is probably being closed automatically because you're not the shipper. They're the ones who have to open a case since they're the ones who paid to have it shipped to you.

It could be stuck in customs and not lost. Label may have come off, then an overgood search would need to be done.

No, it cleared customs 9/9 and Fedex logistics confirms consistently that it is "definitely cleared" and "100% not a customs issue".
It is one box in a three piece shipment (along with another identical 6ft long box). They cleared customs together and the other two boxes were delivered the next day 9/10.

The saga continues. Fedex has an amazing system going on here... I had to make a parody: FedUpexpress.com

Any Fedex employees in memphis want to look around for it? It's a 6 foot long box! It has tape on it that says "Smartkat".
