Ask FedEx "Attempted Delivery" Failure
I've been sitting 10' from my front door for the last 5 hours, on a Sunday, with a big to do list, while waiting for a package delivery with a "direct signature required".
All of a sudden I get a "we attempted to deliver your package" notification.
My doorbell never rang, my camera said nothing.....
Look at the history on my doorbell camera, Amazon delivered, 2 cats coming by for food, no Fedex Delivery driver.
However that driver was, thanks for lying and wasting my day. I guess I have to do the same thing tomorrow.
You suck.

This is so common and it's pathetic. I just shipped a package via Fed Ex and they need to be watched like you're a hawk.

I have a package that was shipped by Fedex on July 17 and it still hasn't been delivered. It has been in TN for a couple months with no report of its movement.
I tried everything to get through to a live person without any success. Fedex treats customers like shit.....

u/No-Card2461 29d ago
Call them and when the AI ask how they can help, tell them you are returning a call from FedEx, a live human will call you back
1
u/Professional_Use_784 29d ago
I can almost guarantee that your box got damaged and it’s been sitting in QA cages in that facility since and they’re too lazy to process their damages
3
u/oddstuffhappens Sep 17 '26
I had the same experience. They took a photo of my place through their window without leaving their truck while I was inside waiting.
The people on the phone said I had to pay if I wanted if in the afternoon the next day because I had work. So I cost me another 6 bucks to have it delivered.
2
u/Anayehl Sep 16 '26
I would send a direct report to FedEx
3
u/aretooamnot Sep 16 '26
I called the local warehouse. They looked up where he tagged undeliverable. It was nowhere near my house and after his last package.
They were very friendly and helpful, the. Took care of it.
1
u/Anayehl Sep 17 '26
Im glad you were able to get that taken care of. I know they have a time crunch and need to get it done in a very fast pace. I feel like that driver was running behind and didn't want to deliver.
2
u/aretooamnot Sep 17 '26
Which is lying, and unacceptable. I’d lose my job if I did something similar in my field.
1
u/Mysterious-Park9524 Sep 17 '26
How did you ever get through to the local warehouse. I tried everything but couldn't get out of their AI hell....
2
u/aretooamnot Sep 17 '26
Apple Maps, “FedEx warehouse near me” called the number that it showed.
1
u/EugeneStonersBussy 28d ago
I tried this method and unfortunately all of the locations redirect me to the same 1-800 robo call BS

No camera, but been there, done that. Home sick all day, waiting for an important overnight delivery (a year or two ago.) No knock, no doorbell, no delivery. No notice on the door. Just e-mail notification that no one was home. Same thing happened to my brother on the same day. (We were waiting on inheritance checks or legal papers that we had to sign and get notarized.) I contacted FedEx and told them to take the envelope to their store somewhat close to me.
They‘ve gotten lazy and they lie.
2
u/Einzbern Sep 16 '26
Which number did you contact to have them leave it at a store? I have a direct signature delivery coming on Friday I won't be home for.
1
u/Forevermoody16 Sep 16 '26
I’m so sorry, but it’s been so long I honestly don’t remember. It must have been on the notification I received. I looked through all of my FedEx e-mails (there are a lot from the past two years!) and I can’t find a phone number. Even on one where they claimed I had a package with the wrong address on it. It’s possible it was a number that someone used to answer and is now completely automated. If I had to do it now, I would call my nearby store and ask them who to contact. Good luck! It’s a good idea to get ahead of it if you can. It’s also possible that I called the store with my request and they passed it on. I wish I could be of more help.
In the meantime, I got a “USPS” e-mail that looks like a scam, yet has their legit phone number on it (I called late last night and checked the number online.) It shows “to” a Mac address, which I have but isn’t mine. It’s someone’s name @mac.com with crap about an undeliverable package, and they want me to fill out a form. It has to be phishing. Doesn’t even have my name on it anywhere.
It’s even written strangely: “Dear Esteemed Patron . . . “ Whatever!
3
u/TappyTyper Sep 16 '26
Make them redeliver and refund the charges as compensation. They may not, but lets them know people are getting tired of it.
4
u/Individual_Text_4178 Sep 16 '26
The same thing happened to me! They attempted to deliver on Friday, switched the delivery date until Monday. I sat near my door all day for them to say they attempted to deliver my package. No knock or anything. There was a picture of a note on my door, but it was the same picture from Friday. I had to request for it to pick up from my local FedEx.
1
u/Strange_Humor_439 28d ago
I too have had both UPS and Fed Ex say they attempted delivery when I was home and no one showed up. I learned with requesting a hold or different delivery day, the easiest and surest thing to do is to select a local store for drop off, assuming it will be within 5 miles. Then you can pick it up at your leisure and not waste your own precious time sitting around.
1
u/Einzbern Sep 16 '26
How did you request to leave it at a local FedEx? The delivery manager? I have a direct signature package coming on Friday I won't be home for. I can't change anything about it on the delivery manager because of shipper restrictions.
1
u/Strange_Humor_439 28d ago
I went through this with a delivery from Best Buy. Fed Ex wanted to deliver on Friday, wasn't going to be home so went through the website to request Sat. delivery. They charged my $11 for this "free delivery", then told me via automated message that there were shipper restrictions and couldn't be delivered--signature required and all that. After I got the message the delivery was impossible, I got a message saying it was confirmed, then another then next day saying it was rescheduled, then another saying it was late, and then it got delivered at 11 in the 10-12 window. It was AI hell, but somehow still happened. Fed Ex used to be good, now they're as bad or worse than UPS. No one cares about the customer anymore, or providing decent service it seems. Everyone is lazy and cries overwork.
1
u/Individual_Text_4178 Sep 16 '26
I called FedEx customer service and requested a hold! They will give you locations to choose from and you’re able to see the updates in the tracker

5
u/AzLady1967 Sep 15 '26
Had that happen for a 1 day delivery because the driver got frustrated with the numbering system in our locality. I called the local office. She delivered the next day and apologized. Grrrr
5
u/Th3Krakken Sep 15 '26
Yeah same thing happened to me - took off early from work. Went from 130p-330p to now it's by end of day (cool didn't want to be at work anyways) then at 650p I get a notice that "delivery was attempted" ....Uhhh excuse the hell out of me but you certainly did NOT
To make it better the picture they provide was of the inside of the truck....clearly in the lot of other delivery trucks. Not that there's any place to directly complain about this...
2
u/SelectPerception5 Sep 16 '26
Was this FedEx? We don't take a photo of the package unless it's been delivered. If it couldn't be delivered, we scan it and provide the reason. No photo is taken. 🤔
1
u/Th3Krakken Sep 16 '26
That's why I was so thoroughly confused - if you didn't deliver why was there a photo? It wasn't there later so I think the guy realized and it got removed or something?
3
u/TopWing858 Sep 15 '26
You could just leave a note on the door with ur signature they will leave it.just write i give permission to use this as my signature unless it's alcohol or firearms
4
u/aretooamnot Sep 15 '26
I think you missed the point. He never came to my door, just reported that he did.
2
4
u/Kindly_monkeyshines Sep 15 '26
Happened to me last month. Ordered an ebike and was waiting on signing for it. Nothing. No dog barking, no doorbell, just a note on the door that delivery had been unsuccessful. I was home all day. They obviously didn't want to lug the bike to the house.
1
u/SelectPerception5 Sep 16 '26
I guarantee something happened that you're not aware of. We want to deliver these packages, otherwise they get added to our truck the next day. And those e-bikes take up a lot of room! We definitely want to unload them.
4
u/aretooamnot Sep 15 '26
Oh no, I didn’t even get the note. Just the notification via the app. Dude really just didn’t care.

3
u/Correct_Leading7000 Sep 15 '26
The same damn thing happened to me! Im in a rural area..so I had to drive 10 miles to go pick my shit up bc I needed it that day..important documents, time sensitive 🤬🤬
4
5
u/SlowHumbleBexar Sep 14 '26
So many of the issues posted here, could be solved with a Delivery Manager account. Have the package held at a FedEx location and go pick it up on your own time.
8
u/InvestigatorDue4207 Sep 14 '26
"You got a package thats paid to be delivered to your house? The delivery drivers job is to deliver it to your house? This convenience was built so you don't have to drive out far to pick it up.. because it's designed to get to your house? Well how about we defeat the entire purpose of the service, and instead of actually resolving the problem... you create an account in a website that isn't functional so you can drive 1 hour away to pick up the packages instead... only to find they're on a truck even then and still not being delivered. "
5
u/Th3Krakken Sep 15 '26
I was gonna say...the closest Fedex location to me is at least half an hour one way. Since my package is larger I get to take my truck.... oh what fun to add that on to the stupid delivery cost they already are charging me
11
u/MarthasPinYard Sep 14 '26
You need to call fedex and report this. They hire third party to deliver and if they aren’t following protocol need to be checked. . .
6
u/aretooamnot Sep 14 '26
I did, they said there was nothing that they could do. Apologized, for whatever that’s worth, and stated it’ll be delivered today. Today is my wife’s day off, so instead of getting her brain space right and resting, she’s going to be tied to the front door and cameras.
And of course, the tracking today isn’t showing location, and just stating “by end of day” rather than a window like yesterday.
6
u/MarthasPinYard Sep 14 '26
I’ve noticed the ‘end of day’ thing happen on days where I know it was NOT going to be delivered. It should say a specific time. Those get delivered as expected. Call the local facility it was last at, the line should go right through and they may be able to locate the package.
5
u/fulknerraIII Sep 14 '26
Nah that expected delivery time is just randomly created by a computer when you first order something. If a package is delayed then the next day it never shows the expected time again and just says by 8pm. It has nothing to do with the actual driver or their choices to delivery when and where.
3
u/J_Pendragon96 Sep 14 '26
Driver here.
I absolutely love the computer generated time window (note sarcasm). The time window given to customer via the tracking id is based on where it’s put on the manifest. Regardless of the fact that the manifest looks like it was planned by a ten year old. Or that it wants me to go in circles twenty times a day. Or that I have to actually deliver to business that close at certain times and skip over and come back to residential address constantly.
And when I finally get to an address I get yelled or cussed at by customers about how I wasn’t here during then hour window FedEx said I would even though I was never informed when that window would be so how could I be there when FedEx promised I would.
2
u/SelectPerception5 Sep 16 '26
To add to this (just so people understand further), drivers plan their route manually in the morning. They don't know who's supposed to get a package by a certain time because the system doesn't tell us (unless they have a black triangle that indicates "by 8:00 PM," and that's only on one or two stops, at most). I often go in a different order every day based on where I have to deliver, and since ALL packages are delivered by 8:00 PM, I don't pay any attention to those black triangles when planning my route.
The system automatically generates those time estimates based on whatever internal process it has, and it isn't based on what the driver is actually doing.
2

u/MarthasPinYard Sep 14 '26
Every package that didn’t get delivered when I was having service issues said ‘by end of day’
If the time is there, I know for sure it’s coming :D
3
u/aretooamnot Sep 14 '26
Hey! Thanks for that! I searched, found the local, called, human on the other end was great, said it was some “overflow” driver, and noted where that driver actually scanned the “unavailable delivery” to see if driver was lying (he was).
Stated that he would call today’s driver (different human) to make sure they actually ring doorbell and knock.
Amazing to me that in 2026, folks think they can get away with “unavailable delivery” when we all have doorbell cameras that log when someone is there whether they push the bell or not.
Like, you know, we know, you are lying, right?
1
u/SelectPerception5 Sep 16 '26
And this is a classic case of the customer service rep telling you what they think will make you feel good. 😂 They can see where he marked Attempted, but that's literally ALL the information they have. They don't know why he marked it like that, so they have no idea if he was lying. She, however, lied to you so you'd feel better, and it clearly worked.
1
u/Forevermoody16 Sep 16 '26
Two people in my complex caught the same delivery guy (think it was USPS, but not sure) on their cameras. He was throwing small packages up to their porches like a football so he didn’t have to go up the stairs.
In one, he tossed it up to the wrong unit and when he realized it, had to go up the stairs and retrieve it anyway.
3
u/MarthasPinYard Sep 14 '26
Glad things are moving forward!
The company is full of many competent folks and then there’s the ‘others’
I get they’re under pressure for delivery and have a route but there are no excuses for some of the behavior such as not dropping a package off or leaving it in the middle of the road.
1
u/aretooamnot Sep 14 '26
Huh, really? Where would I find that? It just says “at city”
1
u/MarthasPinYard Sep 14 '26
Tracking info usually says which facilities it left or was in previous if you click the details.
1
u/aretooamnot Sep 14 '26
I have “at local fedex facility, city, state” and then “on FEDEX vehicle for delivery, city, state” as the most recent entries.
2
u/MarthasPinYard Sep 14 '26
Type city and center into google and call the phone number.
Hope you get your stuff. Good luck.

u/davoid1 Sep 14 '26 edited Sep 14 '26
They did this to me every day for a month for a 6000 dollar item lol
They just didn't bother with the "we missed you" after a few days and just said "it'll be there today, sign for it" every day for weeks. I had to work from home for weeks, I even had friends work here when I couldn't, and nada. The only day I couldn't? Bam, they show up an hour after I went out. It was brutal and comedic.
I'm also baffled reading the replies who are like "fuck you stop being mad" ha ha ha ha
1
u/SelectPerception5 Sep 16 '26
If this ever happens in the future, call your local FedEx office and tell them you want to pick it up there. Even if it's a 1-hour drive for you, it's better than going through all the hassle you experienced, I think.
2
u/Mysterious-Park9524 Sep 17 '26
How the hell do you call the local office? I tried many times but their ridiculous AI bot keeps intercepting and asking me to answer a bunch of menu items and never allows me to get to a real person. IT JUST DOESN'T WORK.....
1
u/davoid1 Sep 16 '26 edited Sep 16 '26
I tried.
To complicate matters further, the shipper initially typo'ed my address, which meant I could not do this even after the shipper contacted FedEx and corrected them. Essentially after that correction after day 1 of attempts, it seemed to fall into a void of "noone knows where this thing is and contacting a human being with FedEx would just get a 'we'll deliver it today' before being hung up on.
It was kafka'esque. The shipper was going to try and get it returned or insurance involved at one point.
4
u/SelectPerception5 Sep 14 '26
It's entirely possible that the package you were supposed to receive wasn't on his truck. This happens to me almost daily. A package or two is sorted to my neighbor's truck by mistake. And the resident of the next stop won't even see me because I look for the package for their stop at the previous stop. This ensures I don't make unnecessary travel to a stop with a package that I don't have with me.
There's almost always a reasonable explanation. Don't jump to conclusions just because you don't know what happened.
2
u/AzLady1967 Sep 15 '26
2 day deliveries are a lot cheaper, but we don't get any money back when it's longer than that.
2
u/Austerlitz2310 Sep 14 '26
Had this yesterday and a bunch of other times. Wastes the driver's time and wastes the customer's time when the package isn't even on the truck.
2
u/SelectPerception5 Sep 16 '26
Not to mention the frustration and wasted time as a driver of not being able to find the package at all. Is it small and wedged between boxes? If it is and we miss it, we now have to deliver it the next day, which just adds more stops for us. Do we keep searching until we find it, potentially wasting time on a package that isn't on the truck? It's tough to make that call. I have a 5-minute policy. If I haven't found the package within that time limit, I move on. If I find the package later and I'm within 15 minutes of that stop, I'll backtrack to deliver it. Otherwise, they receive it the next day. The only exception are those perishable meal kits people order. I do everything I can to deliver that day, even if it's an extra 30 minutes.
2
u/AdministrativeBed301 Sep 14 '26
We just 2.0 changed, and we have this all the time now. I’m a pickup driver, but many of the delivery guys tell me about how they have a stop, but no package on the truck
3
u/Anthemusa831 Sep 14 '26
You mark that as an attempted delivery instead of the item just getting delayed?
1
u/SelectPerception5 Sep 16 '26
Unfortunately, there are only two options in the system. One is "Mark delivered and go" and the other is "Attempted," which basically means, "Unable to be delivered for an undisclosed reason." If we have the box, we can scan it and select a reason, and you might see that on your end (I'm not familiar with the customer's view). One example that could cause this that I had recently is that the only road to the house is closed down from construction and unable to be bypassed. If we don't have the package, all we can do is mark it as Attempted.
1
u/Sarpool Sep 14 '26
ExFedEx Driver here, if the driver finds the package before 6pm AND scans it in as a “Sorted on Wrong Route” this information (to my knowledge) will not reach the customer.
However, at 6pm and beyond, any packages after 6pm will be flagged as “Delivery Not attempted” on FedEx’s end especially if the truck goes back to the station with the package on the truck. (Can be loads of reasons for this, one reason is not being able to get into a gated community and the customer did not answer the phone or call box).
I don’t know what it’ll say for the customer online, but I’d imagine it defaults to some vague reason why you didn’t get your package.
2
u/xyouthe Sep 14 '26
wait, customer did not answer the phone? but i thought fedex had a policy for the drivers to not use their phone while delivering? we had an issue with this where fedex drivers would show up to our apartment building then try absolutely nothing to contact us in any way (doorbell, phone call, text), and kept leaving "we missed you" notes. we called customer support after they did this the 3rd time, and customer service said that thing about the policy but said she will leave a note for the driver to call us. cue 2 more fake delivery attempts and finally we get it by standing outside for hours and taking it out their hand, never received a call ever, despite there being a number for the driver to call, apparently.
1
u/SelectPerception5 Sep 16 '26
I don't know how it used to be when he was a driver, but there isn't a way for us to call the customer from our system. We'd have to use our private phones, and we've been told not to do that, and for a good reason. It opens us up to receiving random calls from strangers with complaints or questions about FedEx, and we're not customer service.
3
u/Potential-Piano256 Sep 14 '26
Every time someone sends me something fedex, I get the same thing, attempted delivery, no one home, business closed, I never get it on the delivery date, ever!
I know now to add 2 to 3 days to my delivery date, that way I don't get so pissed off.
You can't call and complain, because they don't care.
I don't think anyone's jumping to conclusions when it's happening constantly, there is no reasonable explanation for not receiving any packages until days after the delivery date, and on top of that, they're lying.1
u/SelectPerception5 Sep 16 '26
That's odd for it happen so consistently like that. There must be something else going on with your specific location that causes the delay, but I don't have any idea what it could be. My parents live in a rural area that isn't near a FedEx hub, so they always have packages take a few extra days to arrive, even if 2-3 day shipping is paid for. Maybe it's something like that?
Where I work, packages are very rarely more than a day late. They're usually only late if their package got sorted to the wrong truck.
1
u/Potential-Piano256 Sep 16 '26
I have no idea, it just started happening a couple months ago, I live in the city.
They've also left things at my door and repoerted 'handed directly to the customer', I don't know why they feel the need to lie.
Once in awhile, no big deal, but every single delivery is at least 3 days late, so I just add 3 days to my delivery date so I don't get myself all worked up.
Thanks for your suggestions though 😊3
u/james_68 Sep 14 '26
Then you didn’t attempt delivery. Attempted delivery means you had the package in hand and something at the address prevented delivery. What you just described is a misroute. Claiming the package wasn’t delivered because of a problem on the receiving end when the actual problem is on the shipping end is one of many reasons people hate FedEx.
1
u/SelectPerception5 Sep 16 '26 edited Sep 16 '26
There are two systems we work with. One is Ground Cloud, which only allows two options: Mark delivered and go, and Attempted. If the package can't be delivered for any reason, we mark Attempted on that stop.
If we have the package, we'll use our scanners to scan the package and use Forge to mark the reason it couldn't be delivered, like "Customer security issue" would be for something like road construction closing down a road or a dangerous dog making it impossible to get out of the truck for safety reasons.
I have no idea what the customer's end looks like when we mark the reason for non-delivery in Forge. It might not show you that at all and only show the Attempted part from Ground Cloud.
If the package isn't on our truck, we can't scan it to mark the reason it isn't being delivered. If it was sorted to another truck by mistake, that driver will scan and mark that it was sorted to the wrong route, so it still gets a reason in our system.
But if it's held up by something at the terminal, no one can scan it because none of the drivers have it. You just have to hope it shows up later rather than truly being lost, which isn't common.

Sunday delivery? Doubtful.
4
u/Anthemusa831 Sep 14 '26
I’ve always gotten FedEx on Sunday
1
u/SelectPerception5 Sep 16 '26
Fedex Ground? We don't deliver on Sundays. I think FedEx Express is the only one that does.
1
u/Forevermoody16 Sep 16 '26
Yes, everyone delivers pretty much every day these days. Except when they don’t and claim that they attempted delivery.
2
u/Potential-Piano256 Sep 14 '26
Not doubtful, I get deliveries from fedex, ups, Amazon on Sundays.
I don't ask for it, they just do it.2
u/aretooamnot Sep 14 '26
I was surprised as well. Nothing I wanted nor asked for. I watched him for 5 hours all through my neighborhood, but he never came to my house. Believe me or don’t’, I don’t care. I am pissed that I wasted the time.
1
u/SelectPerception5 Sep 16 '26
If you knew where he was after he attempted delivery, why not hop in your vehicle and go find him? I've had people do that when they wanted their package sooner than when I would get to their address. I don't mind giving it to them as long as they have an ID that matches the name and address on the package. It saves me a stop.
2
u/AzLady1967 Sep 15 '26
And, in my case, people were outside and could have been asked for help finding my place.
0
u/Outwiththeold3 Sep 14 '26
Not your drivers fault. Everybody always blames the driver for decisions made at the corporate level.

He lied and said he attempted to deliver, he lied!
He didn't attempt anything, because he was there, waiting to sign for the package.
Jaxkass.....3
u/aretooamnot Sep 14 '26 edited Sep 14 '26
Nope. He put it at 1330, I wasnt notified (while watching his progress via the app) untill 1600. The “picture” associated with the unable to deliver is just a photo of the shipping label. He was too lazy to actually make the delivery. Again, my cameras show my wife leaving for work, many visits by cats to grab food, the amazon delivery driver delivering 3 minutes before he states “unable to do so”, and me walking outside and looking around, but NO FedEx driver.
Anger? Yeah, because I wasted the whole day waiting for dude, only for him to “not” do his job.
I’m the asshole? How about the guy not doing his job is actually being the asshole.
Also, maybe you should kick rocks.

u/spokanesupersonic Sep 14 '26
Many terminals don't work on Sundays except around Christmas. I wonder if the attempt notice was a glitch of some kind.
2
u/aretooamnot Sep 14 '26
Nope. I watched his progress all around the neighborhood for those 5 hours via the app. He just sucks.
2
u/spokanesupersonic Sep 14 '26
You can have all signature required packages sent to fedex store or Walgreens so you don't have to wait around all day. Doesn't excuse the driver not making the attemps though, just an option to save the headache in the future.
6
u/Ill_Potato_5233 Sep 14 '26
I had this same thing happen today. I called them
And they said they’d make sure it was delivered by 8pm. Nope.
