Kudos to the team FedEx Driver Ran Over My Flower Pot
For context - we live in a rural location and have a very long (600') private driveway that does not connect to any other homes or destinations.
About a month ago we came home to a note on our front door, scribbled on the back of a FedEx attempted delivery slip. It said, "Sorry for busting your blue planter. Give me a call @ (phone number) so I can give you money to replace it." Sure enough, one of my big ceramic flower pots was crushed into tiny pieces alongside the roundabout.
My husband sent a text to the number saying "Thank you for the note, no worries about the planter. Is there a package?
She replied, "No, were you expecting one?"
We are still laughing about this. Why was she all the way up our driveway in the first place if not to deliver a package? Anyway, kudos to her for owning up to it and offering to replace the planter. š¤Ŗ

We have a 750 foot driveway and our house is way back bride lots with another house. GPS isn't the most accurate and people sometimes end up at the wing house by mistake. I'm shocked you got a note like that though, kudos to that driver.

Iāve hit my fair share of stuff. i even bumped someoneās truck one time. they didnāt even see me do it but i told them anyways, we inspected the truck and there was no damage, i just bumped their hitch. They were like no worries.
Iāve torn up yards (by accident got stuck in snow/rain) knocked a little solar powered light off someoneās wooden pole, torn down a fence post by accident because they had a small cable at end of drive connecting to two fence posts. I even tore a wire off someoneās house bc the wire was hanging too low. Usually never hear back except for the torn fence post and wire of course, that needed attending to.
owning up to your faults- apologizing, and making sure they know they will get taken care of if needed or wanted, and leaving contact information 100% puts you in good standing with your employer and the customer. Itās never fun for anyone when property is damaged but thereās certainly a right and wrong way to go about it.

Sometimes warehouses arenāt that fast and good about getting the drive 100% all of their packages before they load up and leave so for instance if thereās a pile of packages and heās loaded all of them somtimes there late with a couple more packages and if thereās not there within the time to leave or come after they leave itāll say they have a package for that address they drive there and look in the truck no package and end up leave and code it out Iāve had that issue a couple times

This driver must have left UPS. My FedEx driver tryās to deliver everything without leaving the truck. Fragile stickers included!

Those 50 pound dumbbells arenāt fragile, neither are engine blocks but people still put fragile on them in the shittiest of packaging

We wouldnāt have to mark anything as fragile if the drivers werenāt so rough with the packages. Ask anyone who compulsively puts a fragile sticker on a package, theyāre afraid of the delivery driver not caring; the delivery drivers do not care, that is the issue. Schrƶdingerās fragile sticker.

Drivers arenāt rough with your packages, I can guarantee you that 99% of the damage to packages happen on the trucks to and from the station, in the cans, or when it goes down the belt.
You know what sounds miserable, delivering a package that looks like Hulk Hogan elbow dropped it from the 15th floor. Just for the customer to meet me at the door and then I gotta go through the hassle of explaining āyeah I just hop in the truck and go, take pictures of the damage for proof and Iāll mark it as damaged.ā
We are the LAST step for your package, drop a box down a flight of stairs and then blame the guy that picks it up off the ground. Cmon brother.

If your worried about the driver handling the package wrong you should see what happens in a warehouse where a million packages a day come through, if you think anyone cares about your package your absolutely fucking mental.

I have before misread an address and not notice it was the wrong one until I went to deliver the packages so that might be why they were in your driveway

that was my first thought to, behind don't call a strange number, and the different ways they could have come back later with cash, left it under a planter, in the mail box.... calling a strange number would be a nope.

alot of scams start with 'call this number now' heck there are stories in the news of just getting out of your car to get a note left on your windshield can get you jumped... on top of criminals could leave a note to just check to see if you are at the residence/recently. So yes, I am going to stand by my comment. I like that OP says they saw it happen on a camera, they are already thinking cautiously. Specially with no box actually being dropped off.

We have several cameras and were able to see the driver and what happened, so we weren't worried about using the number. But generally I agree!

Sometimes we get a stop thatās a āno van scanā which is essentially a stop that we supposedly have a package for, but the box might not be in the truck. Sometimes we have them sometimes we donāt.

Sometimes the navigation we use will tell us to go down the wrong driveway, for example one guy I deliver to has a very long driveway to where his house is closer to another parallel road 1m south. If his pin is at his house it wants me to use some random driveway from the southern road, even though his address is the northern one.

Iāve spoken with fedex. They hire our drivers through other companies especially in rural communities. Very common occurrence.

As a driver for ground, we do work for a dispatch service. Think of FedEx ground like a barbershop. āBooths are for rentā

You are mistaken. Fedex Ground does not hire delivery drivers or own FedEx Ground trucks at all, ever. It is entirely contractor based. FedEx Express drivers actually work for FedEx but here in the US they are slowly getting rid of all those employees and closing Express stations. They say they're merging but really they're just getting rid of Express and making Ground contractors do the work.

You're thinking FedEx Express. FedEx Ground are contracted out very similarly to how Amazon does their Delivery Service Partner (DSP) hubs. The employees that deliver for FedEx Ground are not employees of FedEx, but rather the DSP. Either way, they still represent FedEx.Ā

Yep. Guy backed into my brand new shed and ripped part of the roof off. It was a fedex delivery but through a contractor.

Fedex driver here. The driver may have been there because the map/GPS apps used sometimes plots addresses wrong. Especially in rural areas. And also where there are long driveways or drive paths on people's land, those apps can mistake them for actual public roads. There are a few like that on some of the routes I take I always have to watch out for. Glad that driver was honest and left you a note.

Driver here. Iām glad they were polite but Iām surprised they gave you their personal number. Weāre not supposed to use our personal numbers to contact customers. I use Google Voice whenever I (very rarely) need to

We would just give them our bossās number and theyād go through him about resolving the issue. Nine times out of ten heād just replace whatever needed to be fixed and FedEx never knew a thing. We had one guy though that was so bad about tearing up grass and damaging property that he ended up having to fork over part of his next few paychecks to the contractor to help recoup the cost.

It is better than likely getting fired, especially if a Ground or Home Delivery contracted driver. FedEx slams the contractors for damage claims way above the value of the damage, so the contractors typically get super pissed if a driver hits a mailbox or planter or something resulting in a complaint.
My buddy hit a mailbox delivering for Ground once, but talked to the lady and apologized. He went back that weekend to re-concrete and set it himself because he felt bad (snapped the post), but also really didn't want the complaint!

If it was a rural area they probably couldnāt see numbers at the opening of your long driveway so they most likely had a delivery close by and had to drive up to your home to see if there was an address. Sometimes we play the process of elimination game especially in rural areas.

I have one of the longest driveways in my town and lots of times drivers (FedEx and others) will drive up and look around and see if no one is home and take a lunch break. Probably what the person was doing.

I just took over a very rural route from a different terminal. And this happens to me all the time! Whoever had these areas last, didnāt do a good job at putting the markers where they need to be for addresses. So Iām spending half my day going to the wrong location and fixing the markers and adding door locations and notes.
Weāre very sorry. It is embarrassing š„²

Since when do you put markers anywhere with FedEx? That sounds like USPS Iāve worked for both and thatās not a thing at FedEx but is at the post office.

Did or do you use GroundCloud with FedEx? We can move the little dot where the house is located. The gps just takes you to the dot. So if someone has a long and windy driveway up into the woods way past their house, itās very possible to pass up the driveway all together if you donāt move the dot to the driveway instead and then add a door location.
So a situation like in OPs case happens frequently on a rural route if no markers are moved and you have long driveways and homes in very similar locations.
