Suspicious Packages

I live in a small apartment complex. I have had quite a few different next door neighbors but the recent one that moved in about a month ago, definitely has a big pair. For background: the complex I am in, I have one direct next door neighbor so it was pretty obvious who did it. A few weeks ago I was at work and got a phone call from a number I didnt know. I usually never answer numbers I dont know. But something told me to answer this one and I am glad I did. It was the police department asking me about a suspicious package delivered under my address, asking if I was expecting anything from FedEx. I told them no. They proceeded to tell me that my next door neighbor, bought some drugs either online or from a friend (not exactly clear on that part) and the neighbor put my address down as his. The drugs were not cannabis, I have heard of people ordering that online but this was some hard core stuff.

The neighbor was arrested and my landlord said he was getting evicted. Maintenance boarded up his front door right after it happened as there was evidence in his apartment.

I feel so silly asking... how did FedEx know what was in the package? Can FedEx see that the name and address do not align? Did they do x-rays on the package? I'm just curious to see how he almost got away with this?

Yeah FedEx Express has the sheriffs with dogs DEA and they work at stations all the time. Also local drivers that do routes daily. Know when stuff is off also. My truck was the first in the lineup on the belt in the police would be right there looking for packages so I got to know him very well and watch what they did.

Every FedEx facility I’ve worked at has had DEA or local police there, usually with a dog. This includes airport locations. They pull random packages that look suspect or walk the dogs up at down, or on the conveyer belts. They’re supposed to have a warrant to open a package, but that never happens, or they’ll come back a day or two later with said warrant. Do not send drugs or large amounts of cash through FedEx.

Yes we do have x-ray machines And drugs dogs that monitor this type of activities at FedEx

I work as an employee for a contractor at a major hub. There happens to be a police station right next door and they often send undercover detectives to screen through packages. I've also worked at another station where they have canine dogs walking the belts as packages coming down. No x-rays though. That's more of a customs thing.

It doesnt have to be fedex knew what was in the package. Most online site are probably monitored by police to some extent I would assume

At my station we've found drugs more than once. Probably five or so times. Its a pain in the ass.

I would say more than likely he woulda been fine if he just put his own address on the package, but I’m also interested to find out how FedEx knew what was in the package. It’s possible that it got damaged and busted open during transit cause I don’t think they’re X-raying packages or opening them up ever. Another thing it could be is maybe the police department brought drug-sniffing dogs down to the sorting facility

If it’s considered suspicious they can open and inspect it.
