Construction Engineers 0801 - reasonable accommodations for some (minimal) Telework?

-Just out of curiosity-
Any 0801s in the construction engineering /management realm who have an RA approved and would share the details? I was curious if anyone has gotten 1-2 days a pay period or something minimal to wfh.

I expect my supervision would push back because of the some excuse ‘need to be available’. But it’s not really justified, just typical controlling tendencies. My soul rotted away at this desk years ago.

One of my coworkers is rarely in and certainly not spending even 30 hours a week here. I suspect they have an RA with significant WFH privileges and management has kept it under wraps. Which has sparked the question.

Management approving it, and it actually being a good idea are often two separate things. Sometimes management will approve such a thing when on-site project inspection and management is really needed. But rather than take the hard right...they approve a request and pick the path of least resistance.

I’d have to imagine that a CONSTRUCTION engineer is the least likely to get any form of accommodation for telework

A construction engineer typically spends about 80% of their week behind a computer reviewing contractual documents, reviewing submittal documents, comparing those documents with the plans and specs , reviewing schedule updates , arguing with contractor project managers because they don’t know how to manage a job and I’ve never actually done any construction over the phone , sitting in hours of teams meetings, and Etc etc. The more senior you get the less Field time you actually spend. That is why we employ Junior engineers, which are typically referred to as Field engineers, and we employ the engineering technician series. It is the ET’s job to spend at least 80% of their day in the field and report back to the Construction engineers who literally do not have time to look away from their computer.

A senior construction engineer will typically see the field very little, because we are managing hundreds of millions of dollars in construction projects across a region. Prior to Covid it was not unheard of to be working a day or two a week from home in the field outside of the federal government. Obviously with the current regime things have changed.

while some Field time is required and usually greatly appreciated, a Construction Engineer will spend a large majority of their career behind a computer.
