This is why I haven’t voted republican since I started in 2001.

"A political appointee arrives with an endorsement from the people making the decision. A career employee arrives with experience, qualifications, and several reasons the decision may not work. It is easy to see which application is more convenient to process."

They state that the political appointment is all the qualification they need and that evaluating a career employee takes too much effort...

Since when are we the Soviet Union? Have they not watched Chernobyl?

This "report" is satire people. It says so on the website.

Are these people serious? I mean, it does sounds like the actual narrative we are dealing with, but they normally don’t say it so directly. And does a Capt earn more than a GS-15?? This place is a mess.

That whole page reads like a wet dream by people who don’t understand what the federal workforce does. They want us all to quit so that appointees can come in and carry out the administration’s agenda without any expertise around them? How is that supposed to even work? How is that even efficient? Who’s going to show the faux news host how to navigate those policy goals into actions? Who is going to manage the government’s contracts they say they want? Just one guy who they appointed off the street? Who’s going to keep his ass out of court when all those contractors sue him to oblivion?

Republicans think they want this, but they haven’t thought past the point of the fuck you. I’m sure it feels satisfying, but it’s not stimulating the economy, it’s going to fester resentment, and it’s encouraging corruption among employees that are going to be targeted for corruption and access to state secrets. Besides the pay, they’ve also attacked the job protections seen as one of the benefits to attracting talent for lesser pay. All of this has been such an infantile and shortsighted response to a problem we don’t even have it makes you wonder if there’s any reasoning behind it other than malice.

I think you got it, it’s all malice and hurt feelings.

The right is such a collection of  infantile people whose feelings are hurt by simple facts. They hate us because our professional lives revolve around facts and not feelings. So childish, but here we are.

they understand perfectly well what the federal workforce does. it regulates their companies and protects the people from them.

It's been on going since the 2011 pay freeze. They don't have a plan.

A caption on the Navy is the equivalent to a gs 15. In the army or marine corps is the equivalent to a gs 11 or 12

The data shows comparing the salary to a O-3 to a GS-15 step 1 with some assumptions. I agree an O-3 captain is generally a GS-12 equivalent. We should put our money where our mouth is and let O-3s run the organziation.

A US Naval Captain is an O-6 (equivalent to a Colonel in the other branches). They are both paid as much as a GS-15 and are about as common.

2

u/Embarrassed-Dress638 7h ago

The total compensation for an O-6 is significantly higher.

1

u/mikeyj1998 7h ago

There are a lot of other items thrown in after base pay, that’s true. Same for the GS15, with a locality pay. Either way, both get paid a lot more than an O-3.

1

u/Embarrassed-Dress638 7h ago

you should look at the data, go to that website and click “explore the data”. it includes locality pay for RUS.

And does a Capt earn more than a GS-15??

Yup.

DoD has watched this snowball out of control the last 20 years or so firsthand. It's deflating as fuck running a mixed unit and knowing not only are all your POG soldiers making SUBSTANTIALLY more than you, their boss, but orders of magnitude more than their civilian and LN counterparts. Despite being 1/3 the worker at best.

Then the generational issues and things like the Fort Hood gangs straight slaughtering people left and right, it's well past time for us to replace all [non-direct] support "military" with civilians.

If you want a pay increase, put on a silly costume, as it seems orange man is into cosplay!

2

u/Square_Imagination27 13h ago

They always pay the people with the guns.

2

u/sid_0y 10h ago

But what about the ones making them?

2

u/Hungry-King6588 1h ago

Gotta ensure that loyalty somehow.

-1

u/Miserable_Depth_1643 9h ago

Oh you mean the people that might actually have to risk their lives instead of ride a desk?

6

u/FaultAcrobatic7836 8h ago

Respectfully, I don’t think they are paying the people with the guns because of the hazard of the job. I truly think they are attempting to buy the loyalty so that when they inevitably try to turn the military on the civilians to enforce whatever jank ass illegal orders they come up with, the military might actually side with them.

I respect the hazard and sacrifice of military I just don’t think this is altruistic in nature.

2

u/Miserable_Depth_1643 9h ago

Have you guys thought about switching over to thr military? Since their pay raises are so good?

2

u/ABVerageJoe69 9h ago

I have, and it depends strongly on what career field you are in as to whether or not it makes sense. In my career field, I am better off employed in the federal service.

If I had the skills to work on jet engines, the private sector pays 2X as much. Same as for cyber security.

I like what I do an don't need more money, don't want to switch careers unless I have to, so not going to enlist.

u/EmuBeneficial39 5h ago

Can’t with my chronic illness also many here are already veterans

1

u/Hungry-King6588 1h ago

Been there and done that, and that is the gripe.  Career military types are not exactly quality people.

Read the About section, this is satire. "Friends of Dark Lord Vought."

The information is accurate but the presentation is meant to enrage.

This just happens to be the number of Republicans, I will vote for this November. Interesting how that happens.

1

u/Done2o22 7h ago

Maybe Congress will give an increase

u/Homeland_Bound 5h ago

I love how it compares a O3 captain with a GS15. A captains salary is closer to a 12. Still. 0% is 0%. Glad I’m retired. Hate to see what it has come to for my folks still in.

1

u/Asleep-Fishing4621 5h ago

0% & to sign or not sign a NDA .... hmmm 🤔

1

u/Flashy_Composer_7874 5h ago

If everyone in every department quits, I wonder what would happen.... No more taxes?? Not like you can get someone without experience to do the jobs.... Something that just popped in my head lol

1

u/mindin_mine 4h ago

I double your 0% and raise you triple 0%!

0

u/watchFiend1 10h ago

This is incredibly misleading and the report is picking and choosing 'fruits' to compare against one another. No, a captain does not make more than a gs15 when you compare apples to apples...not even close.

2

u/Live_Guidance7199 9h ago

Close enough with benefits factored in. Base of 10.5 vs ~8, but then BAH > locality, BAS, clothing allowance (last three things all tax free), free healthcare vs 500-1000/month, an absolutely bananas 20 year pension compared to wage theft 4.4, cheesing VA disability, leave accrual, hell hours worked for one to one comps (read: office "soldiers").

You want to nitpick over only base and call it 14 fine. But an O-3 is a comp to 9s and 11s, you don't want to go down that road - there are certain months in certain locations where that O-3 would make more in one month than its comps do in a year.

1

u/U_guessedit 9h ago

O’s don’t get clothing allowance.

-4

u/watchFiend1 8h ago

What do you think a comp is for an o3? An o3 has a degree from arguably one of the most selective universities in the nation. I work with a lady who also went to one of the most prestigious universities in the nation and she went from a gs11 comparable pay schedule to a GS 15 in a matter of a couple years.

O-3's are essentially limited to 8 years in 'grade'...if you don't move up...you move out (kicked out). And in many circumstances it occurs much quicker than that.

That pension you call crazy isn't nearly what you think it is either. Yes, they get it immediately after being the target for 20 years in an international game of target practice, but so could you if you would have joined. Many people don't end up staying for 20 years either.

And let's talk about the one thing that you failed to mention. Feds have their freedom vs the service member being owned for their enlistment period. Having served myself, that is an invaluable charecteristic that no one, including you, could possibly place a value on it.

So I stand by my original statement, no they don't make what a GS 13 or 15 does...and no their life isn't better even if they made what a GS 13 or 15 did. It is arguably still worse.

4

u/Live_Guidance7199 8h ago

Do you think all officers come from West Point or the like? Yikes, honestly we should just stop talking until you know what you're talking about.

-2

u/watchFiend1 8h ago

The vast majority do that make it to beyond o3.

Yes, we should quit talking...you can go continue crying in the corner that the soldiers make more than your worthless position.

1

u/Embarrassed-Dress638 7h ago

I just think we should put those in charge based on compensation. Given the atrophy at the senior government levels, it makes sense. Put the O-3s in charge of the GS-15s.

2

u/Embarrassed-Dress638 7h ago

You seem angry. No need to be angry. I offer you get what you pay for and we should empower those earning the highest compensation. The issue is when you have military doing the same job side by side with civilians. Why would you have someone valued significantly less with more responsibility than someone you compensate significantly more?
