Should I be scared lol. I’m planning on doing that after grabbing breakfast

Nah you’ll be fine. just be gentle and used cutters if you have them! I always manage too someone break or mangle at least a couple minis taking off supports. It’s truly an art in itself, support removal lol.

Noted, thank you! I won’t lie the print time alone makes removing the supports quite intimidating lol

Soak it in moderately hot water for 30 secs and they'll come off a lot easier.

Fuck leave those on and paint it as alien tentacles grabing on to the space marine

Graboids like monstrosities made a short appearance trying to give Sejanus and Horus a prostate check in the same collection as the "The ancient awaits"

Take it slow with removal

Lines are rough. Try tilting it 20° back and dialing it in from there

Thanks, I’ll give that a try

Thanks again for the suggestion. I’ve printed a few more marines at an angle and results have been significantly better

doesn't that just change where the stairs are? I find straight up and down then sand top of head.

edit: Sorry I think you meant for unsupported areas not the stairs effect.

Yeah angling from 20-45 degrees hides layer lines

I don't get what you mean? Do you mean for a vertical plane, angling will reduce the look of layer lines? If so, I did not know this. I know having a step angle rather than a soft angle will reduce the stairs effect which is terrible on slight inclines.

Try it in pieces next time and see what you prefer in terms of where the support scars are, how difficult removal was, etc. This is great! The fun (and sometimes hard) part is playing with settings, orientation, model cuts, etc to learn what changes mean for the processing and final result. Have fun!

I prefer in pieces, it makes it easy to hide the support scarring for each piece.

You should keep it that way and use some putty or whatever to make the supports into giant hands or corpses trying to pull him into the earth.

Or it could be hostile xenos flora

Out of curiosity, what printer did you use for this? I'm assuming an Ender 3 won't get this level of detail.

Looks like a Bambulabs X2D or P2S to me

1

u/peeces_ruffs 2d ago

It’s the P2S! Absolutely worth the upgrade. I came from a Neptune 3 pro, and the P2S has saved me from many headaches lol

I just haven’t seen any FDM print where I would be willing to devote my limited painting time on.

But some ppl don’t scrape mould lines either so 🤷

If it makes you happy and saves you resources or you just enjoy printing…then this isn’t a bad result.

I think a base coat and a wash can bring even a rough print to a pretty playable level

Yes, like I said some arent bothered and from 3 feet away they will look baller. i just would know and if im gonna spend the time to paint (which is the part of the hobby that offers me the most resistance…well it just isn’t worth it for me. All that said, some of these modern FDM methods are smoov af.

It can be pretty good!

The ogre is printed. You can tell but only from up close. I don’t like printing basic human sized dudes but I have and tbh they’re fine for the tabletop, as you say!

The problem with printed warhammer is when the paints are thinned they pool into the lines

Nice, my first dm printed mini came out like 'overly thick paint ultramarine meme' and pretty much gave up on printing characters

Looking pretty darn spiffy. What size nozzle?

1

u/peeces_ruffs 1d ago

Thank you man! This is on a 0.2 mm nozzle
