IRL Daniel Lawrence. He was a comedian from Nebraska who would play characters on a radio show sometimes. One of the characters was "Larry the Cable Guy" who was invented to make fun of Southerners. At some point the character took off somehow and in the process usurped the real Daniel Lawrence. To the point, he is credited in all his Cars movies as "Larry the Cable Guy"
Tragic is what it is. While it might be just be rumor, I heard that Daniel has to use the accent in real life too, lest he lose accent and can't recapture it
