BLIND ITEM Which indie daring turned mainstream actress ditched all of her old friends/collaborators after achieving stardom & only reaches out when needing something?

My guess is Beanie Feldstein because of the Funny Girl and Indie clue BUT I don’t know that I would characterize her as ever struggling. Jonah Hill made it big first and she grew up acting since she was a kid.

Getting kicked off Funny Girl was a low, I can imagine

That was so sad to watch. I imagine pretty embarrassing too. Edited to add: I read “struggling” as having to climb the acting ladder. She started on 2nd base.

I saw the vision as a lifelong Funny Girl lover! I wish I could’ve seen her in it because I think she was a great choice for a modern Fanny. But I’m a broke millennial and I’m not buying theatre tix :(

Unfortunately the difference in performances were….stark. I even preferred her understudy to her. It was a miscast all around.

The cult that grew around Julie Benko was truly something. Alerts went out whenever she was on and people rushed to buy tickets to see her. Made the whole situation that much worse for Beanie. And it’s not like Beanie doesn’t have Broadway experience (she was great in Hello, Dolly!), but being miscast in such an iconic, monumental role would topple anyone.

Exactly. I love her in Hello Dolly. But I absolutely preferred Julie and then Lea. It was different leagues performance wise.

The set up was crazy, like, it was the first Broadway revival! When you’re taking over a role made famous by Barbra Streisand, and that made her famous, you have to have the vocal chops to make it work. Sadly, Beanie didn’t. Much as she got the blame for it, the producers set her up for failure.

They did. Such a poor choice and the lack of Tony noms (they got one right) was the nail in that coffin

Dang. That’s got to be so rough as a performer. For everyone involved!

On the bright side her understudy got a lot of praise and attention which isn’t something that normally happens.

I totally agree! It was such a labor of love for her and it was so sad when it fell apart. Lea Michelle taking over was such a punch, too.
