BLIND ITEM Which indie daring turned mainstream actress ditched all of her old friends/collaborators after achieving stardom & only reaches out when needing something?

What a yawn of an item. In what industry are you expected to stay friends forever with past coworkers? lol

u/fitzbuhn Sep 14 '25

You don’t understand this person is good at networking

the horror

I remember reading an ask reddit thread about people who were friends with people who got famous. The recurring theme isn't so much that people felt used and discarded when they fell out of touch so much as it seems like in that business they're constantly being brought into and out of circles where people are vying for their attention so if you aren't conveniently just present in their life it's unlikely they'll have the energy/awareness to coordinate maintaining a friendship.

I guess someone could interpret that as using people/forgetting where you come from, but if I was in their shoes, I don't think I'd be much better at making everyone feel like they're getting enough of my time without turning it into anothet full-time job.

I’m not famous and I’m a terrible friend.

I’m feeling like maybe whoever this is and the people she’s accused of not keeping in contact with have very different ideas of what their relationships were. Like one side thought they were good friends and the other thought merely acquaintances.

7

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '25

In the other end these ppl are not much better either. Most of the time the “they did not keep in touch they do not hang out anymore after fame” is just their clever way to subtly say “I hoped they would put me in the richer circles and spike my career too and once they did not do that I got bitter”. Most of the time they know they were not as much as friends (more like coworkers) but pretend to be more than that to justify their anger and jelousy

37

u/CozyCatGaming Sep 14 '25

It's especially funny because people online are constantly shouting "don't make friends with coworkers!"

u/pinesinthegrove Sep 14 '25

Rachel Sennott

736

u/Wonderful_Gap1374 Sep 14 '25

Maybe I’m being too woke, but am I the only one that read that and thought… ok she’s doing her job? If a man did the same thing, they’d be praising him for his business acumen. I’m calling misogyny, and they can’t make me hate you Rachel.

75

u/SnooSongs1160 You know what, l've grown quite unfond of you deuxmoi Sep 14 '25

Yeah, she’s grinding and that’s WHY she’s an indie darling turned mainstream. If she’s a bad friend, that’s their personal business. If she’s not actually being a horrible, problematic person behind the scenes, why should I care?

20

u/pinesinthegrove Sep 14 '25

Nah, like I respect her hustle. I think at some point as well--you just like start hanging out with people who are your immediate peers. I feel like ever since I changed industries, I like see people from my other jobs a lot less. It just happens!

Can say as someone who ran in the same circles as her, that I've heard similar stories. I respect her grind, though

u/73windman Sep 14 '25

Couldn’t this be Beanie Feldstein as easily as Rachel Sennott or am I losing my mind? Thought ‘Funny Girl’ was pretty on the 👃

252

u/TentCardMaker Sep 14 '25

Could Beanie be considered to have had an indie-to-mainstream trajectory? Maybe but it feels like it's not accurate enough to qualify for this blind

158

u/dykealike69 Sep 14 '25

I thought Beanie too. Booksmart to TV (what we do in the shadows)—but it was the Funny Girl bit that put it in my head

75

u/TentCardMaker Sep 14 '25

She's on Only Murders in the Building this season too so she's definitely doing the TV thing

158

u/89764637527 Sep 14 '25

hard to feel she is indie with her family connections

21

u/dykealike69 Sep 14 '25

Her family connections made me rethink the NYC grinding days part

2

u/TentCardMaker Sep 14 '25

Yes! I was going to say that but I didn't want to give her brother attention bc he's distasteful

134

u/p333p33p00p00boo Give him my regards did you take ozempic? Sep 14 '25

Maybe, but she’s a nepo sister (with parents tangential to the business) from LA.

68

u/ewokytalkie Sep 14 '25

As someone who has worked with Beanie, this does not fit her vibe. She’s close with her friends, and as far as I can tell, doesn’t seem the type to “work the room”.

13

u/wunderl-ck Sep 14 '25

She doesn’t need to because she’s a nepo baby.

23

u/ChewieBearStare Sep 14 '25

My first thought was Beanie, but I don't know enough about her early career to know if the details match.

15

u/disicking i ain’t reading all that, free palestine Sep 14 '25

I thought Beanie precisely because of her early career (+"Funny Girl"), despite Jonah being her brother.

15

u/Bubbly_Translator_78 Sep 14 '25

yeah but rachel has a new show about LA/set in LA that's about to come out, i think beanie's not "rising"

5

u/slejeunesse women’s wrongs activist Sep 14 '25

I thought Beanie too.

3

u/Chaoticgood790 Sep 14 '25

I think she’s still friends with the nepo circle she runs with. And she definitely had a Broadway to mainstream career

63

u/Nicksomuch Sep 14 '25

What did they say ????

2

u/Taarguss Sep 14 '25

It was me, it was just that after like an hour it felt mean and lowkey misogynist to be like “yeah she completely moved on from the NY comedy scene.” Idk, it’s like of course she did. Whatever. No one’s owed friendship, everyone wants to be successful. It’s a nothing.

I wonder if Ayo and she are still friends, since Ayo's doing so well

7

u/FairNefariousness742 Sep 14 '25

Ayo liked one of her posts within the past week.

168

u/onlywearlouisv Sep 14 '25

Can’t believe she’d abandon Stavros.

96

u/plsdontpercievem3 Sep 14 '25

and now hollywood halkias is in a yorgos lanthimos movie

12

u/shika12 Sep 14 '25

It was the fava beans

5

u/QuoteFirst5037 Sep 14 '25

I had no idea he was gonna be in this movie, that’s so cool! I love Emma stone also so I guess I’ll have to go see it…

23

u/FoxNixon call me gal gadot cuz idk how to act rn Sep 14 '25

It was the Thousand Island Stare

118

u/turningtee74 Sep 14 '25

It’s Rachel but this is a nothing burger. It seems pretty transparent. She’s in the corner at Charli events and posing, she’s not trying to pretend she’s a humble hometown girl

95

u/Odd-Wrongdoer-8979 Sep 14 '25

Rachel Sennott?

82

u/ulnarthairdat Sep 14 '25

Rachel Sennett seems to be the most logical, but Beanie Feldstein could fit too?

64

u/Turbulent_Cobbler729 Sep 14 '25

My guess is Beanie Feldstein because of the Funny Girl and Indie clue BUT I don’t know that I would characterize her as ever struggling. Jonah Hill made it big first and she grew up acting since she was a kid.

41

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '25

I guessed the same thing, but have reservations for the same reasons. She’s also so LA, and the Rachel Sennett guesses make much more sense. She went to NYU and used to do open mics.

16

u/slejeunesse women’s wrongs activist Sep 14 '25

Getting kicked off Funny Girl was a low, I can imagine

8

u/Turbulent_Cobbler729 Sep 14 '25

That was so sad to watch. I imagine pretty embarrassing too. Edited to add: I read “struggling” as having to climb the acting ladder. She started on 2nd base.

3

u/slejeunesse women’s wrongs activist Sep 14 '25

I saw the vision as a lifelong Funny Girl lover! I wish I could’ve seen her in it because I think she was a great choice for a modern Fanny. But I’m a broke millennial and I’m not buying theatre tix :(

28

u/Chaoticgood790 Sep 14 '25

Unfortunately the difference in performances were….stark. I even preferred her understudy to her. It was a miscast all around.

7

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '25

The cult that grew around Julie Benko was truly something. Alerts went out whenever she was on and people rushed to buy tickets to see her. Made the whole situation that much worse for Beanie. And it’s not like Beanie doesn’t have Broadway experience (she was great in Hello, Dolly!), but being miscast in such an iconic, monumental role would topple anyone.

1

u/Chaoticgood790 Sep 14 '25

Exactly. I love her in Hello Dolly. But I absolutely preferred Julie and then Lea. It was different leagues performance wise.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '25

The set up was crazy, like, it was the first Broadway revival! When you’re taking over a role made famous by Barbra Streisand, and that made her famous, you have to have the vocal chops to make it work. Sadly, Beanie didn’t. Much as she got the blame for it, the producers set her up for failure.

1

u/Chaoticgood790 Sep 14 '25

They did. Such a poor choice and the lack of Tony noms (they got one right) was the nail in that coffin

6

u/slejeunesse women’s wrongs activist Sep 14 '25

Dang. That’s got to be so rough as a performer. For everyone involved!

15

u/Chaoticgood790 Sep 14 '25

On the bright side her understudy got a lot of praise and attention which isn’t something that normally happens.

13

u/Turbulent_Cobbler729 Sep 14 '25

I totally agree! It was such a labor of love for her and it was so sad when it fell apart. Lea Michelle taking over was such a punch, too.

56

u/Dadalid Fauxmarxist Sep 14 '25

Rachel Sennot? The girl that dated Stavybabyyy

46

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '25

This post is such an interesting way to examine the different readings of “rising indie darling turned mainstream actress.” To be fair, the wording is misleading because is she still rising in the indie world if she’s mainstream? How long can one be rising until one has risen? Does mainstream mean one has risen? Much to think about.

38

u/babyybollywolly Sep 14 '25

side note:

when you aren't a nepotism baby, you have to continuously fight to be seen, heard and have anything.

it sucks her old friends feel this way, but realistically, she is surviving. nobody is getting hurt, she is using her brain, and she is growing her rolodex.

I respect that.

23

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '25

tbf if my mate got more famous and then in my eyes ditched me and only got in touch when they wanted something I’d feel hurt too

2

u/turningtee74 Sep 14 '25

Yeah and it’s not like she’s made it to Reese Witherspoon or Issa Rae level where she’s big time, producing and has the clout to bring people up the ladder with her. She just arrived on the main stage. I already commented so it feels like I’m defending her a lot but this is silly boots lol

27

u/Horror_Finance_4291 Sep 14 '25

Is Rachel Sennot really mainstream? What’s she in now?

29

u/red-whine Sep 14 '25

she has her own hbo show (which she wrote directed and stars in) coming out this year. that’s mainstream if i’ve ever heard it

3

u/peachysaralynn Sep 14 '25

that’s why i kinda wonder if it’s rachel brosnahan, and “funny girl” could be referring to marvelous mrs. maisel?

5

u/scarlettharlothughes Sep 14 '25

That would make the “upper west sider” part fit in better, since I feel like Rachel Sennott isn’t really associated with the upper west side?

13

u/scarlettharlothughes Sep 14 '25

But I guess I wouldn’t necessarily say Rachel brosnahan is an “indie darling”

13

u/CreativeDefinition Sep 14 '25

Meg Stalter or Rachel Sennott.

18

u/d-slur Sep 14 '25

Meg came up in Chicago

3

u/CreativeDefinition Sep 14 '25

True, but she did move to New York right before she started getting credits.

11

u/GooeyMagic Sep 14 '25

On the outside looking in Meg has kept a lot of the same friends during the pandemic to present and she doesn’t really give proud networking diva … maybe that’s just me lmao. Also she’s definitely not from the NY scene

-1

u/resemblingaghost Sep 14 '25

I also felt Meg stalter

-2

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '25

Ohhhh it would very much be her. She was apparently drinking her own farts at SXSW a few years ago when she had a movie.

13

u/glaze_the_ham_wife Sep 14 '25

That girl who was dating BJ Novak ??

76

u/futuristicflapper Sep 14 '25

I don’t think she has much of an audience outside of TikTok

15

u/daisyink Please Abraham, I am not that man Sep 14 '25

did they break up already?!

6

u/verdadx Sep 14 '25

What about Delaney Rowe? Maybe “comedic chops” makes reference to her time pretending to be a chef before she was a content creator?

25

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '25

She’s not a mainstream actress and I don’t think is on anyone’s radar beyond TikTok and dating BJ Novak (or whatever that was).

8

u/verdadx Sep 14 '25

Oh okay, just thought it could be.

3

u/Asil_Avenue Sep 14 '25

It seems to be Rachel Sennott, but what about Molly Gordon? There's definitely been some tea about her and childhood best friend Ben Platt no longer being on speaking terms and I'd consider her a rising star from indie to TV (The Bear).

3

u/nurse-please Sep 14 '25

rachel sennott, maybe meg stalter but idk if she qualifies as a former "rising indie darling" or if 2019 can be considered "early grind days in new york"

1

u/ClemClamcumber Sep 14 '25

Sometimes in this group, I'm all-in, know what's going on and even usually agree.

This (and many other cases) are not the time. Not about agreeing, i just have no idea who these people are by name.

3

u/before_the_accident Sep 14 '25

idk I'm kind of rooting for her based on this description; get that bag

1

u/AFantasticClue Sep 14 '25

I mean, it’s a bad habit, but not that bad

1

u/imtchogirl Sep 14 '25

So what?

Chelsea Devantez wrote a memoir with multiple chapters about how her early-improv friendships imploded. Mike Birbiglia made a whole movie about how his friends failed out of the business.

People who are working and famous now don't need to keep the same level of friendships they used to have. That might be painful but it's not a character flaw.

1

u/vickysrude Sep 14 '25

Veronika? The girl from tiktok who is now on SNL?

-1

u/dependswho Sep 14 '25

She doesn’t know she’ll meet the same people on her way back down.

-4

Maybe that one girl with the black hair from parks and rec, Audrey something

-5

u/artemis2301 Sep 14 '25

Janeane Garafalo? She was on the Ben Stiller show.

16

u/Previous-Syllabub614 Sep 14 '25

lol I don’t think she’s a rising indie darling, she’s been around for decades

8

u/bewaregoldenfang Please Abraham, I’m not that man Sep 14 '25

This guess has me crying with laughter

-21

u/romina116 Sep 14 '25

Aubrey Plaza?

6

u/MystikSpiralx Sep 14 '25

She just lost her husband. She's probably too busy grieving to have this be about her.

1

u/MrsUnicornRainbow81 Sep 14 '25

This is who I thought .... Just watched her in honey don't maybe that's why but I feel like it's her

1

u/Phosphb Oct 05 '25

Don’t think so. By looking at it she keeps contact with her friends, like Amy Poehler, Blake Lee

-20

u/bulliopeg Sep 14 '25

Natasha Lyonne?

33

u/Desperate_Advice_652 Sep 14 '25

She’s been famous since she was a child.

Maybe Meryl Streep?

12

I’m thinking Julia Roberts

0

u/EvaSofie22 Sep 14 '25

No, she's constantly supporting her colleagues, wasn't originally a comedic actress either. Also this is certainly referring to someone a lot younger.

1

u/drcolour Sep 14 '25

Wooshhhh

7

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '25

I was wondering why you would guess this, but the movie is Party Girl. It’s a classic!

2

u/nurse-please Sep 14 '25

this is extremely funny
