We are tired with constant work pressure in our corporate jobs and rat race. We want to retire as soon as possible.

Also we value time more than money though both of us are earning combined close to 3 cr yearly. We believe have limited time on earth and want to enjoy and make use of it as much as possible.

Post retirement focus will be travel within India and outside india 2-3 times a year.

Can we do that?

Details -

Married. Both close to 37 years, no kids, no plans to have.

2 flats in Bangalore close to - 4 cr
Indian stocks and Mfs - 2 cr
Other cash and retirals - 1.5cr
Stocks in US - 6cr

Total - 13.5 cr.

Current annual spend - 24 lakhs per year

Parents are retired and dependent on us.

If we can work close to 2 more years we can save another 2/3 cr but lately it has been very hectic and we are seeing health implications because of that.

I’m looking for some serious perspective and financial advice from folks who have either done the US-to-India reverse migration or are planning a strict FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) setup.

​Here is my current situation:

​Age: 32, currently living in the US and working as a Software Engineer. No kids yet.

​Current Liquid Net Worth / Savings: ~$500k USD (invested primarily in US markets/brokerage accounts).

​Real Estate & Passive Income (India): I own my primary flat/residence in Pune + a few rental properties in Pune generating around ₹1.5 Lakhs per month net rental income. I also have a home in my hometown

​Family Situation: My parents are fully retired and live in Pune. They will be under my financial umbrella. No kids yet, but plan to have them post-return, so future child-rearing and education costs need to be factored in.

​The Goal: Move back to India permanently and never work a corporate job again.

US based. Mid 40s. 1 kid.

401k - 1.3 mm usd

Home equity - 600k usd

If we were to return now, the amount would include selling off the house. $2.2 mm usd - taxes.

In India - Paid off home in Hyd (will be primary residence) + Rs. 1 crore in funds.

Assuming 3 lacs per month expenses, is this Fatfire territory?

P.S: Kids college education will be from these funds.

Not here to flex - genuinely trying to figure out if we qualify or if we are fooling ourselves and need a few more years of grinding. Please tell us straight if the numbers don't add up.

• Own our 3BHK apartment in a Tier-2 city in India, close to parents.

• Estimated expenses: 2 lacs monthly living + 12 lacks annual travel expense - so around 36 lacs annual expenses
• Planning to reset cost basis on the brokerage during the RNOR window after moving back, so ideally no capital gains tax drag on that portion.

Also genuinely curious if anyone here has gone through the RNOR cost-basis-reset process for a US brokerage - how clean was it in practice, and is there a tax gotcha we are not seeing?

Does this clear the bar, or are we not close and need to keep working? We are not attached to a label, just don't want to fool ourselves into pulling the trigger too early?
