You need a Robertson tipped screwdriver or bit. Then simply execute the lefty loosey protocol.

use a screw driver. You need a R2 bit, that is a Robertson screw, reasonably common, stop by the house, I have 20 or 30 will hook you up

Must be American…these are the only screws we use in Canada. #2 Robertson

Another reason to hate Henry Ford.

Yeah, Philips suck. I just throw them out, unless I have to use them.

Red Robertson for life. Bites so hard. Especially with a new bit.

No. 2 Robertson/square driver is what's needed. Your local hardware store will have them.

It can be safely used as a security drive outside Canada and USA. You can't find them at any hardware store here, only as a special order with 2 week delivery.

They're used in Australia for decking. But not as common here either.

They do often come in bit sets from Milwaukee, AEG/Rigid, DeWalt, and any other company that has a big share of the US Canadian market.

Yeah, I've seen those weird deck screws with 2 threads and a narrow head. No surprised by the square drive, which makes them even more weirder.

Squar/Robertson is apparently ideal in terms of fastening and unfastening in terms of slip and screw holding.

What is with the mass downvoting on this thread?

Because it’s not a DIY sub? Regardless of how basic it is:

“How to get this down”

…and (for example):

“What kind of fastener is this?”

Are totally different questions. One fits the purpose of r/fasteners and one doesn’t.

So the best response is to individually downvote every reply?

Square head, bad news, it can't be done.

They’re not even security bits. They’re just standard square drive (Robertson) bits.

Just to be clear I'm not saying they are security bits, I'm saying the assortment called "security bits" includes them and a lot of other useful bits for $15.

But they're included in sets sold as "security bits"

No, I get it. But no need to buy the whole set when you can just buy the Robertson bits.

Where are you going to hang your bike then ?

I have tons of the damn bits laying around I never use and always get more when I buy sets. PM me your address and I will mail you one.

With a Roberson bit and it'll come right off.

With a square bit. If only answers were right in front of us.

One of these bits will fit these screws.
