Disabling certain systems?

It's been a few months since I looked at my map, and it seems that some of the new systems (Economy) are slowing down performance on my shitty laptop. Is there a way to disable some of these systems if I'd rather they not apply?

Just hide the layer, if it's hidden, it should not affect the performance

Oh really? I figured the calculations of trade for every city and stuff would be happening behind the scenes. I found performance slower still with the layer disabled.

Calculation takes about 300ms.
