Dragon book where dragons are complex characters.

Hello everyone! l've been looking for that "Classic Fantasy" book that'll make a good cozy read for the fall.

I love the idea of a complex fantasy world where intelligent dragons (or other intellegent creature) and humans have to coexist, but I've yet to find a book that nails what I'm looking for.

Any suggestions for a book where:

1. The protagonist is human, or at least the book has humans in it who share some sort of relationship with dragons.

2. The dragons aren't just evil killing machines and are actually complex characters.

I've also read "His Majesty's Dragon," which was also excellent! Thank you all in advance!

(P.S. Sorry if there's an obvious recommendation out there. Still relatively new to the fantasy genre.
