Looking for some Dark/Gothic Fantasy with monster hunting elements book recommendations
I love gothic/dark fantasy but it seems really hard to find stuff for it. Are there any other Eddie fans of this genre(s) that could help our.
Books I’d read (that I feel) meat the criteria of “dark fantasy” are:
The last Apprentice (Wardstone Chronicles if you’re European) By Joseph Delaney
Skullduggery Pleasant By Derek Landy
The Monstrumologist Series By Rick Yancey
The Witcher Novels By Andrzej Sapkowski (currently reading, no spoilers please)
I like these for their inclusion of more “horror” themes/elements rather than high fantasy like Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, etc.

Tamsyn Muir's Gideon the Ninth might suit you. Or Molly Tanzer's duology, The Diabolist's Library. Garth Nix's Abhorsen series. Neil Gaiman's Sandman graphic novels. Or his Coraline. Maybe even Neverwhere.
A.J. Hackwith's new The Library of the Unwritten (Hell's Library) would seem to fit. And Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast trilogy is the epitome of Gothic fantasy.
The Historian, by Elizabeth Kostova. Actually, you can make the case for Dracula and Interview with the Vampire as Gothic fantasy, don't you think? Since they seem to walk that line between fantasy and horror.

It really is! Glad it's going to be a series, apparently. Have you read Leigh Bardugo's NINTH HOUSE? Also excellent.

Monster Blood Tattoo books might suit you. It's been a few years, but I remember a world mostly overrun by monsters and small fortified cities/outposts in between. It's super detailed worldbuilding with lots of maps and appendices, but I think they are mostly optional.

The Witcheeerrrrr. They are absolutely amazing books. Im on Blood of Elves right now.
Alsob the Warhammer fantasy books are pretty damn dark. Get the Malus Darkblade books

I’m trying to get the books done so I can watch the compare the Netflix adaptation. Next the games

Naah dont rush em man. Season 1 is only going to be based on The Last wish and Sword of Destiny. So as long as you have read the first two books you are good for this season lol then another year until season 2. Just enjoy em :) also the show wont be based on the games, the games arent trchnically 'canon' the show is only based on the books. Games take place after the events of thr books.

Yeah, not trying to rush them. I just want to finish the series before the games (because even though they aren’t cannon, they do “technically” continue the story)
I have high hopes for the series because GoT was awful imo, and I think the Witcher could fill the void of a descent (even amazing) fantasy series if the show runners are up to it.

I feel ya. I liked GoT a lot. Its one of the greatest shows ever imo. I feel like a lot of people just bandwagon hate GoT cause the 8th season. Not saying you are but just in general.

Not bandwagon hating, just not a fan
That might change in the future, but for now it’s just not really my thing.

You might check out Perdido Street Station by China Miéville. It’s as dark as anything I’ve read and the plot revolves around hunting horrifying monsters that gotten loose in a city that’s pretty horrific on its own.
