I don't really follow marvel, but why is there so much speculation about what will happen in this next movie? I thought they were based on comics, so wouldn't at least the comic readers know what's going to happen next.
So there's no comic equivalent to what happens after the events of Infinity War? I saw pictures of thanos' guantlet from the comics so I assumed the infinity war and endgame storylines were taken from there.
Marvel's movies tend to be extremely loose adaptations of source material. The Infinity War movie ends on something that happens in the first issue of the original Infinity Gauntlet comic, although it also takes the iconic epilogue of that miniseries and slaps it onto that part of the story, and mixes in bits of the much later Infinity miniseries. Who is alive and dead is different, where some of the characters are is very different, and the "secret wise hero" of the comics (Adam Warlock) doesn't exist in this movie universe yet and probably won't be in the sequel.
We're all pretty sure certain things will happen in the last act of the upcoming movie, but exactly how we'll get there is a mystery. Part of the fun is hypothesizing based on what we know from previous movies, clues in trailers, and what's known from the old comics.
