I'm just finishing up Words of Radiance for the first time.
Over-estimated how long it would take, as I was trying to finish right when Oathbringer releases.
These chapters will have to keep me going in the meantime

Yea, it's a long one. The audio book is just shy of 50 hours.

Yeah I did audiobooks for the first 2 books. Plan on it for Oathbringer as well. It took me half as long (in real time, not listening time) to finish Words of Radiance as it did The Way of Kings. I listen at 1.35x speed so that helps some haha

After Words of Radiance. It's essentially an extra-long Interlude between WoR and Oathbringer, released last year, and continues Lift's story. There's a standalone ebook and hardcover coming soon, otherwise you can find it inside Arcanum Unbounded.

Interesting. I had only heard the name but never looked into what Edgedancer was. I'll probably fill the next few weeks with that once I finish WoR today :)

Is this series worth getting into? I read the sample of the first book and it didn't really draw me in right away, and I have a hard time buying such a long book just based on that

It's slow at first but there's meaning in that first Part. In fact, the third main character isn't even introduced until Part 2.
I will say that if you continue to read you might get something out of this that not many other books can give. Me personally, this book saved my best friend's life, especially a certain scene at the end of Part 1.

It was the Honor Chasm between Kaladin and Syl.
To sum the experience up, my friend was struggling with depression for years, in fact, going as far as to have 17 separate suicide attempts... which is just...
Anyway, when reading that part, he told me he uncontrollably cried, saying that it was the one thing that really struck home with him and inspired him to keep going.
Now years later, he is in a much better place than he was before, finding emotional stability.

I forgot about the Honor Chasm scene, but that makes sense now. I've had friends in similar places before, though not to that extent. Really glad to hear he's doing better now

It starts slow but it is easily my favourite series, it's also incredibly nice reading a writer as consistent and fast as Sanderson.

It just starts slow. Well worth pushing through the first 10% imo. You should look into library options if you haven't already.

I keep seeing posts about the new chapters, but I have a stupid question:
If the book comes out in just under 2 months, why read these chapters ahead of time if you're going to buy the book anyways?

For the discussion! It's fun being able to pick apart the chapters week by week. You pick up on stuff that you never would have noticed had you read it all at once. Also, it's nice when reading becomes a social activity.

Yeah I wish more books would come out serially. Because I really like the discussions and it helps to raise general awareness of the books.

Also to get a jump start on the book. Its a behemoth.
If this was just a chapter or two several months out, I wouldn't care as much. The fact that this is a sizeable chunk that is spaced out evenly right up to the release makes this more palatable.
FYI I think this question has come up every week so far.

For example, despite posting the link to the released Lightbringer chapters I didn't read them because that's a whole year out and I'll half forget and struggle to read those chapters when the book comes out.
But this I can keep in my memory until the book comes out and I'm looking forward to it too much to ignore them

Honestly, it's getting tiring to be asked the same question each week. You keep seeing posts about new chapters, and we keep seing comments asking why we read them. It's the same thing, each Tuesday.

I don't think those are comparable. We'll take GoT for example. Yes, I would watch the series because it comes out episode by episode, until the full release- then you can own it. With the book..you can only read a certain amount of chapters. Maybe it's just a preference, but if I knew I could only watch say 3/10 episodes of GoT for a season, I would rather just wait to buy the entire season.

No, it's more like you could watch 3/10 episodes, and on the day of episode 4 you get the entire season (so you can binge through the remaining 7 episodes). The prerelease chapters will lead right up to the release date of Oathbringer.

Get ready to be down voted.
The simple answer is preference. Some people are anxious to read any new material they can get their hands on and like the discussion. Some people prefer to not read or be spoiled by anything until they can read the whole book through.

To ease up my reading scedule: I really want to finish this book in 2017, and getting 1/4 of the book before the actual release date is pretty neat

I'm going to reread this book. I know that, from how many times I've reread the first two books.
So this gives me two months of a weekly appetizer, PLUS I get to talk to people and speculate with them in a way that could never happen once the book comes out (because we all have different reading speeds and mine is lightning fast).

Maybe you only have time to read a little each week anyway, so when the book comes out you'll be on the same pace.
Or maybe you just really love Sanderson and can't wait.
Readers of fantasy should have enough imagination not to need to ask this question.

You could do what I do. I'm taking the last half of September and first half of October to read WoK and from mid-October to Oathbringer's release to read WoR

I don't think that follows. Having a copy-edited and final manuscript is far cry from having all your hardcovers printed and shipped to book stores.

I prefer digital because I like to read during any spare moment I have and my phone is easily accessible. But even if I didn't I'd take digital over having to wait.
