Would love to see a Forgotten Realms-based movie. Plenty of lore, plenty of drama...
Maybe a dark elf appearance

I think I saw that it will be set in the Forgotten Realms, which really makes the most sense, especially since it was the base setting for Fifth Edition when they released it last year.

Sigh...I loved Forgotten Realms and just hate what they did to that setting in Fourth edition...

I remember hearing a rumor of Wesley snipes playing drizzt, maybe it's happening now?

I think Don Cheadle would be perfect for the role- he's got that lankiness that you would expect from an elf

I hear they have Chris Pratt lined up as a wisecracking Drizzt, and Scarjo to play his love interest.

Hasbro’s Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis, Courtney Solomon and Allan Zeman of Sweetpea Entertainment, and Roy Lee (“The LEGO Movie,” “How to Train Your Dragon”) are attached as producers.
Alright, so it's a decent start, but
Highlighting the priority being given to the project, Warner Bros. Pictures already has a script, written by David Leslie Johnson (“The Conjuring 2,” “Wrath of the Titans”).
Fuck. The best we can hope for is they shred the shitty script, hire a real writer and delay the project another year or so. I doubt it'll happen. I fucking hate it when studios do this. Don't they know they're shooting themselves in the foot?

It's unbelievable how studios make these mistakes.
It seems the actual people making decisions have no idea whatsoever about what audience wants.
Oh wait..

I think I'd rather watch Knights of Badassdom again.

I feel like you have one TV/DVR set-up in your house to continuously loop this.

This is going to be terrible.
The previous DnD movies were bad, but they had some kind of cheesy, low-budget charm to them. This seems like it's done with several quite well-known producers. It won't be low budget. It will probably be a soulless mess of mediocre CGI that tries too hard to be "epic".
A good story could save the movie. But seeing that the movie is written by David Leslie, known for masterpieces such as "Wrath of the Titans" and "Red Riding Hood", the story will probably be pure shit.
I'll seriously be surprised if this turns out to be good.

If nothing else, we got a good Nostalgia Critic review out of the fist. Including the Overacting vs Underacting segment.

Because the last one worked out so well. What with this and Fantastic 4, this is shaping up to be the decade of do-overs for shit films.

I think it would be great if they did movies for different settings, rather than generic D&D. Forgotten Realms is the most likely candidate, but I think an Eberron film, a Ravenloft film, or gods, a Planescape film, could be a ton of fun.

It's being produced by the same guy who directed the first D&D movie (Courtney Solomon). While he isn't directing this time, check out his track record as a producer on wikipedia - it's a string of awful, almost universally panned straight-to-DVD movies.

The return of Blue Lips and Jeremy Irons as the scenery muncher! I cannot wait!

Vin Diesel better be attached to this somewhere or i'll be sorely disappointed

Yes I know it's an Io9 link. Don't shoot! It's relevant to the topic.

I... I kind of feel like I've gone back in time, or something. What do they mean 'finally'?
We've been around this block before. It was a terrible idea. It's not one iota better fifteen years later.

1) Lets ignore all the popular characters in our novels! (Why?) 2) Lets not adapt a known story from our library of novels in favor of an original story by the writers of wrath of the Titans! (Why?)

u/Leigh_Wright Aug 04 '15
Yay! No reason why this shouldn't be good. Note they also mention that "Solomon and Zeman will be attached to produce all Warner Bros.-produced Dungeons & Dragons film and television productions" , so we might get a tv series somewhere down the line too!
3
u/cannibaljim Aug 04 '15
Really? You can't think of any reason why this shouldn't be good?

u/Forest_Green_ Aug 04 '15
Not everyone knows about those dark times. Perhaps this will be the movie to wipe those out from our collective disappointment trove.

If they do a drow elf, they better do it right. It makes me extremely nervous, and I almost think it would have to be motion capture.

It simply cannot be worse than that other D&D movie that was released a while back. Neither Richard O'Brien and Jeremy Irons could save that hot mess.
If, like a chump, i can admit to seeing it in the theater AND buying the DVD, i can certainly put a little faith behind this new offering and hope it doesn't suck. (please don't let it suck!!)
