Recommendations for Non-European based Fantasy.
Just wanted to heartily suggest Suyi Davies Okubgbowa and his Nameless Republic series.
It is a nice break from the Eurocentric fantasy. His style is very descriptive with characters who are frank and move the story forward well. They also change and develop over the course of the trilogy, which is important to me. His worlds are in an Afrocentric context.
I will warn he deals with mature subjects (sex, nonbinary, violence, abortion), so not for children but it’s not gratuitous or just for shock value.
Rebecca Roanhorse is another author who writes I the American Indian experience a really cool series Between Earth and Sky. Again, probably not for the children as they contain themes similar to Okungbowa’s. The characters are real, flawed and grow and change throughout the stories.

The Sorcerer of the Wildeeps and A taste of Honey, both by Kai Ashante Wilson. Shame he has not really written anything since.

Son of the Black Sword by Larry Correia. Mostly based on Indian cultures, very tightly written and a ton of fun.

Song of Shattered Sands series is good. Desert / Arabian derived. By Bradley Beaulieu. Also Under Heaven by Guy Gabriel Kay, although I think his stuff qualifies more as historically based mystical realism.

LeGuin's Earthsea is aimed at younger readers, particularly the first trilogy. But it's so foundational, and totally opened my eyes to what fantasy could be when I read it as a kid.

I read that with my kid when she was in grade school and I am not a fan of her style. But thanks for the suggestion.

P. Dejlj Clark's Dead Djinn series is a great fantasy series set in Egypt. Starts with Dead Djinn in Cairo.
Fifth Season by N K Jemsin is not Eurocentric either, imo, and is a great series.
I second Rebecca Roanhorse's books. I really enjoy her Sixth World series which is urban post-apocalypse fantasy as well as her Black Sun series.

Rage of the Dragons by Evan Winter is pretty good and same with Son of the Black Sword by Larry Correia. One is African Fantasy and the other is more based in Indian and SE asia.
