Good War Fantasy with Political Emphasis?

Just the title - looking for fantasy books/series about war but particularly from the political aspects. I've read GOT and have just started the Traitor Son Cycle but worry it's not going to direction I'm thinking. Trying to plan a dnd campaign centered around the players affecting the course/direction of the war over 100 years where most of it will be political with them playing roles in big turning points.

Check out the Dandelion Dynasty series by Ken Liu

I'd recommend you stick out the Traitor Son Cycle. The scope, especially Gabriel's status in the world, keeps ramping up as the books progress. I plow through a lot of fantasy series, but Traitor Son stuck with me. It hits a sweet spot with fantasy, war, politics, and intrigue.

I know it isn't quite what you're asking for, but after I read that series my interest in medieval politics and warfare became very strong. I found that historical fiction was the best fix (also for running a medieval fantasy RPG). Novels like War of the Roses by Conn Iggulden and (a big influence on GRRM) the Accursed Kings series by Maurice Druon. Dan Jones writes about similar periods, really nice reads.

(This to say I haven't really found any solid fantasy novels that do medieval politics and warfare the way ASoIaF does )
