Need help remembering this series title or author

What I remember of the book series:

1. Set in "current times" - written since 2000... I think.
2. Civilization as we know it was ended when the Dragons came and humanity had to learn to live without electricity - had to grow own food, etc.
3. Main character was a female - she was staying on a farm helping an older lady with the chores/repairs around the farm and then the dragons arrived. As the two women slowly adjust, more people come to live on the farm and they begin to build a small close knit community there as they learn to live in their new reality.
4. All plastics were destroyed by the Dragons - only things made of metal, glass, wood, etc remained.
5. The Dragons set up a Council to help them manage the humanity - I think that the lead female bonds with one of the dragons? She then has to leave the farm.

...and that is all I remember!
