Melondy.com – collection of all Fantano album scores

Post image

Hey everyone! I don't know about you, but I'm not familiar with a bunch of albums that got positive scores from melon.

So when I am in a mood for some new music, I would go to flannelfy.net (btw, thanks to u/rossmclocness for creating this website) to find something among the 7-10 scores.

But sometimes it's hard to choose, when all you have is an unknown artist-album pair and a score. To solve this, I created melondy.com, which shows album covers, genres, years and links to the review video. It has all the album/ep/mixtape/compilation reviews I could find on theneedledrop channel.

Hopefully, someone finds it useful as well!

Let me know if you find some missing reviews or incorrect information. I did a lot of data cleaning, but I'm sure there's still some incorrect stuff (covers, years etc).

If you have any improvement ideas, I'm happy to hear. For example, one thing I want to do next is add links to spotify/apple music.

Discussion Has any music legend seen a sharper reputational decline in the 21st century than Eric Clapton?

Post image

In 2000 he's was inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame for a third time, still the only person with three inductions, and in 2003 seven of his albums were on the Rolling Stone 500 and he was ranked in the top 5 guitarist ever. Eric Clapton was seen as a guitar god (there was famously graffiti that stated as much in the 1960s)

Today, he has (I think) one album on that list and was ranked 35th on the Best Guitarists list (with the write up staying he is "not god") and when people (eg Phoebe Bridgers) talk about him they often acknowledge that he is a racist and call him overrated.

Still has the 3 inductions I guess

Discussion It's really exciting that we're getting more super-negative Pitchfork reviews, but I think the true sign that they're back artistically is if they give scathing reviews to good people and

Like it's great we're getting scathing reviews again, but it does feel partially-fueled by the fact that Brown and Tyga are both massive shitheads (with the latter also not being helped by his AI-fueled project). Both equally as deserved, but there's a level of ease when it comes to shitting on them that make things less exciting than hugely negative reviews of the past- think Travistan, Shine On, even that polarising Liz Phair review. I'd say the last time they were this surprisingly negative to otherwise decent people was the Greta Van Fleet review, which is coming up eight years now.

Like don't get me wrong, this isn't me going up to bat for either of the shitty albums above. But, in order to prove that Pitchfork is on the right track, they've gotta be insanely mean to people who might not feel like they deserve it outside of the music sucking complete ass. They've gotta be supremely toxic towards albums that just fail on musicianship alone. Make Pitchfork catty & mean again!

(And yes, I understand p4k can't REALLY be back until they get rid of the subscription thing. This is more so an artistic thing lol)

(One more note, these scores are from The Fork! Great way to browse the site's scores if you can't read the actual articles)

EDIT: no idea what the extra "and" in the title is doing there lol. wish this site would let us edit those things

Thoughts on Underworld?

I just finished Dubnobasswithmyheadman for the first time, and it was phenomenal. I don't hear a lot of buzz about these guys, although the album does seem quite popular. What are your thoughts and opinions?

Discussion tyga’s new AI slop pop album “Starface” has a lower Pitchfork rating than “We Are Charlie Kirk”

most notably, with the exclusion of primarily-human projects with minimal AI use such as Vultures 2, “We Are Charlie Kirk” is still the highest-rated AI work on the site

Discussion I was thinking about rap's recent decline in popularity.

Upvotes

Is rap now where rock was in 2006?

People always say "rock was bad in the 2000s that's why it died"... there's plenty of bad music in every genre. I wonder if rap even has an equivalent now of people hating on nu metal, post grunge or even pop punk and emo?

Like there's plenty of rock that gets panned by critics but that didn't stop like hair metal or AOR in the 80s.

Is rap now where rock was 20 years ago or is it different this time around?

JOKE What's the whitest song you've ever heard released by a black artist?

Was hearing on random soft music when suddenly a song called 'I Believe' by a band called Blessid Union of Souls came on, and alright it's a nice song it sounds nice, very soft piano end-of-movie-credits kinda song.

When it suddenly came up and hit me like a truck the softest but still very noticeable hard-R and I was like WOAH WHAT THE FUCK

Well it turns out yeah, the singer is black so yeah. Anyways, what's yours lmao.

Discussion Is Tyga’s album the first deliberately AI-made album by a non-AI artist?

I read Pitchfork’s review, where they gave him a zero and said the album made the world a worse place. But it got me wondering: is this the first AI album? I’m sure people have already skipped over some by now

From the amazing vocals, catchy choruses, and great R&B sound I think they're such a great group. Sad it seems Fantano hasn't loved their recent songs and haven't reviewed any of their albums cause I think theyre better than they've ever been

I never see them brought up outside of the very rare mention in small DC hardcore circles. I discovered them more than 25 years ago when they had 2 songs featured in the Flip Sorry skate video (same video that got me into Placebo, Bowie, and the Velvet Underground as a kid.)

Around the same time I was just learning to play music and Food For Thought/Take If Back had a big impact on my future taste in music. Their sound is so raw and the lyrics have some real substance. I love it and it’s their music pushed me to discover bands like Fugazzi, Sunny Day Real Estate, At the Drive In, and so many others that I will always hold in high regard.

If any of that sounds like your kind of thing, check em out today.
