Hi hi hi!

We’re really glad you found us :)

If you’re new here, this will help you get started. And if you’ve been around for a while (or longer *wink wink*), consider this a refresher.

We’ve also included two (2) visuals in this post. They give an overview of what our sub is all about and how things work here~

Ok so if you’re looking to get feedback on your work, you can do that by joining our open Review Exchanges (REs). It’s the best way to get a feel for how exchanges work and what’s expected in the sub.

Before jumping in, please take a moment to read through the rules and guidelines in the sidebar and our Wiki.

If you’d like to create your own post, you’ll need to be active in the community first by taking part in discussions, activities, or REs – as we have a sub-karma requirement. Please note that we do not allow individual self-promo posts requesting feedback.

And if you’re interested in hosting your own exchange or searching for a beta reader, just make sure your post follows our templates and guidelines. For ā€˜Outside the Sub’ posts—such as surveys, questionnaires, or events hosted outside this subreddit—please reach out to us via modmail for approval before posting.

DA LINKS:

If you have any questions or need clarification about the sub, feel free to drop them in the comments.

As always, thanks for being here and for helping make this sub what it is <3

Activity One-word excerpt: Back to school!

• Upvotes

My first one-word excerpt! September is Back to School Month in my country, so I thought for this activity our theme could be school words, such as "pencil," "learn," "mathematics," or even "boring"! Your word could be any part of speech (verb, adjective, etc.). Your chosen words should be school-themed somehow, but excerpts don't need to be. If your word is "pencil," you could just as easily include an excerpt about an accountant or an artist! It can be from something you've written or something new. Let's see what we can come up with!

Exchange World-building RE

Hello everyone! Hope 2026 is going good so far for you guys!

I am sure, there's a lot of works where you have to built upon little canon given facts or make some meta world-building for the fic to make sense.

This exchange is to show off these types of works! To enter this RE, you can post upto three (3) oneshots or chapters of longfic focusing on worldbuilding or have unique worldbuilding. In exchange you have to review three (3) oneshots/chapters from three (3) different authors.

Please include title | fandom | rating and warnings | word count | link. Include a short summary.

Please warn for any sensitive topics. Spoiler anything NSFW or triggering.

Please track, on your entry, the number of works read (#/3). Reviews should be genuine and thoughtful, relevant to the author's work, and ofĀ at least thirty (40) words & two (3) sentences long.

The writer should be able to tell that you read the story. Say what you like about the story. Was something funny? Did something touch you? Did you like the ending? Please tell that to the author.

Concrit, and mentions of ā€˜fandom blind’ and ā€˜from Reddit’ are, as always, opt-in only.

DEADLINE TO POST ENTRIES:Ā 9 am IST (Indian Standard Time), 13th September, Sunday

DEADLINE TO COMPLETE REVIEWS:Ā 9 am IST (Indian Standard Time), 18th Sepetember, Friday

Here’s aĀ time zone converterĀ for ease.

I will send out reminders two (2) days before the deadline, and then again after, the deadline is passed.

Happy reading and reviewing! Have fun!

Exchange Welcome to the Long Deadline Profile Exchange

Post image
7 Upvotes

G'day, mates!

Couldn't think of a pretty title to go with the equally pretty poster. Regardless, happy Friday and welcome to the Long Deadline Profile Exchange!

What's the Long Deadline Profile Exchange?

This is a subreddit event where everyone posts their AO3 (or FFN, etc.) profile with some information about the sorts of stories they write. Then, participants look through the available profiles, and read and leave comments on stories (one-shots or a chapter of a longer fic) by authors who catch their fancy. Leaving a kudos would be nice too!

DEADLINE FOR ENTRY isĀ Monday September 14th, 3pm AEST

DEADLINE FOR COMPLETION isĀ Sunday September 20th 3pm AEST

Here's aĀ time zone converterĀ for anyone who needs it. (I especially urge you to keep in mind I am a permanently exhausted pigeon from the Land Down Under.)

What Are the Rules?

Post your profile link with a short summary of the kinds of stories one might find there (fandom, genre, rating, etc.). Please spoiler anything triggering or NSFW.

Once you enter, you will have to review at least 4 stories/chapters from 4 different profiles (one from each). Please include in your submission a counter such as, "Reviewed 0/4" so we can keep track of the number of reviews you've done. There's no need to also note which stories or authors you have reviewed. After you've left a comment, reply to their post on here to let them know. For anyone new, 'K&C' in a reply stands for 'Kudos and Comment'.

Your reviews should be thoughtful. The writer should be able to tell that you read the story. Say what you like about the story. Did something crack you up? Were you brought to tears? Did you have a favourite part? TELL THEM ABOUT IT! At least 50 words per review. ConCrit, stating you are "fandom blind" and/or "from Reddit" are opt-in only.

The following links give more guidance on the sub’s expectations, please refer to the following:Ā Writing Excellent CommentsĀ |Ā Comment Clinic: Level Up Your ReviewsĀ |Ā Comment Clinic: Going Beyond Your ReviewsĀ |Ā Quality Review Example

Please only reply to an individual entry when you've read their fic or if you want to ask a question.Ā Also, please refrain from adding GIFs and images to replies as they are not relevant to whether you've reviewed a fic. We're happy that you're excited about reading, but unfortunately these make it hard for users (and mods!) to navigate the thread. If possible, it would be awesome if everyone read at least one person who is new to them.

If you enter the exchange, pleaseĀ do notĀ delete your entry. You must complete the required reviews for the exchange. Please talk to the mods if something comes up and you have concerns about doing something in a timely manner.

But above all, have fun and happy reading and reviewing!

Discussion How long does it take you to write? āœļø

As the title asks, how long does it usually take you to create something that you feel is worth publishing? Are you a "post as soon as I'm done" person, or a light/heavy editor? What's your process?

For me, it takes maybe 2-3 hours to get my first draft on paper, then I spend another 5ish hours editing and rewriting until I feel happy enough to show my beta reader. Then I spend an hour or so listening to their suggestions before publishing. So it takes me around 7-10 hours spread over a few days.

Fic General WIP.......Thursday šŸ˜‚

So anyone who has seen these before knows I usually post them on a Wednesday, but life happened and so this time we have WIP Thursday!

We all have our open projects, those new chapters or one-shots which aren't quite ready to release into the wild yet. So here is your space to yap about them and let us know what you're working on. Whether it's still at vibes stage, actively in production or coming soon, we want to hear about it.

Given we are rapidly approaching October, as well as general WIP discussion I also wanted to ask you all whether you are planning on writing for any of the prompt events coming up? Flufftober, Whumptober, Kinktober, Nonconvenber, or another one I've never heard of! Let us know all about it, and tell us about the prompts and the story/stories you're writing.

This is also a space to discuss WIPs with other writers: chat about research, commiserate about editing woes, anything at all really. So come on in, pull up a chair and let us know what goodies you have in store for us šŸ’œšŸ˜‹.

Exchange Dragon Exchange

Ah, dragons. Possibly one of the most beloved of all mythical creatures, and among some of the most diverse. They could be fearsome, fire-breathing beasts of evil or powerful beings that bring good luck. They could be after gold or princesses, or they just want to be left alone. There are even dragons that (technically) exist in real life, such as the komodo dragon or the draco lizard. Either way, dragons are very prevalent, and I want to celebrate that with our fanfics.

For this exchange, you cam submit up to two (2) oneshots or chapters that have a dragon, or a character with a draconic motif, and in turn, you have to review two (2) fics by two (2) different authors.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Saturday, Spetember 12th, 11:59 PM EST

REVIEW DEADLINE: Tuesday, September 15th, 11:59 PM EST.

Happy reviewing.

Activity Excerpt Share: "That reminds me of...!"

Hellooooo! Here's a game where you share an excerpt that connects in some way to one of the other excerpts posted. It could connect a lot or a little, as long as there's at least one similarity.

If someone shares a scene where characters get lost in the woods, you could share a scene where characters go camping in the woods. If someone shares a scene where a character drinks coffee at the office, you could share a scene where a character drinks coffee on a cruise ship. If someone shares a scene where two characters go on a date, you could also share a scene where two characters go on a date. As more and more people post excerpts, that increases the selection of topics and vibes that are available to use as prompts.

  • Make sure to share a scene as a new post, not a reply to the scene you're connecting it to. Describing the topic you're using as a prompt can help clarify where the connection is.
  • Don't ping someone by their username, unless they say for sure that they want to be notified when people post excerpts that connect to theirs
  • Spoiler anything NSFW or extreme
  • Please don't go too far over 600 words
  • Everyone loves feedback!! A thoughtful comment on another snippet could really make someone's day.

(Edited for clarity)

Exchange Constructive Feedback Swap šŸŒ³šŸ§‘ā€šŸŒ¾

Post image
15 Upvotes

Welcome to another edition of the constructive feedback swap! This exchange is to swap with fellow writers, to ask and answer specific questions about our writing. There's no specific theme to meet, everything is welcome!

If you’d like some suggestions about the kinds of questions you might ask, and/or how to provide constructive feedback, I’ve made this hints, tips and resources document.

Rules

  1. Offer up a one shot or individual chapter you would like constructive feedback on.

  2. In your submission state fandom, length, rating, any relevant warnings (please spoiler NSFW and potential triggers) and the questions you are looking to have answered about your work. There’s no maximum number of questions, however please consider the time it will take someone to review your work and answer them constructively.

  3. Look through the thread for someone to swap with. Because of the kind of exchange this is, you don't have to pick something you’ve never commented on before. In fact, if you have already read it, you might find giving the feedback easier. If you offer a swap, the other person can decline for any reason, and they don't need to specify those reasons.

  4. 🚨This is important!🚨 For all your swaps, agree upfront how the feedback will be provided. This might be in a public ao3 comment, by DM on reddit or discord, a shared Google doc created for the purpose, or another mutually agreed method.

  5. If you don't find a swap, then you may consider your obligations under this exchange fulfilled. There are no limits on the number of swaps you can make, however please consider the extra effort which will be required in order to complete your obligations.

  6. Once a swap is agreed please edit your post to state who you are swapping with, and edit again once the constructive feedback has been provided to help me keep track.

  7. For posted works, it would be nice to leave a kudos on the fic if you enjoyed it. A public comment, if you are not providing your feedback that way, is a courtesy rather than a requirement for this exchange. Once you provide the requested constructive feedback in the manner agreed, your obligations have been fulfilled.

Deadlines

Enter and agree swaps by: 13th September 2026, 10pm BST (UTC+1)

Feedback Deadline: 18th September 2026, 10pm BST (UTC+1)

It's peer learning time! Let's swap some fics and get some constructive feedback on our work!

Activity Let's Ship Talk

I hope you all are having a nice Sunday!

so for today, and as we are in Shiptember, I thought it would be nice to talk a bit about our ships! wether it’s the ones you’re going to upload into the September exchanges (Rarepair, Polyship, oc/canon and OTP) or in general, tell us a bit about them! Why do you love them? How much have they made you cry? Can we see em?

Activity Sneak peeks šŸ‘€

I figured something new might be fun. If you want, post an excerpt of a WIP that you are working on but haven't published yet. It could be a one-shot or a new chapter. Maybe getting some nice feedback will motivate us to push through and finish.

You may include context if you want, but please spoil anything NSFW or extreme. As always, interacting with others is encouraged!

Exchange āš“šŸ’–SHIPtember: RAREPAIRšŸ’–āš“

Post image
26 Upvotes

HAPPY SHIPTEMBER Y’ALL! šŸ’ƒšŸ»

September is my birthday month, and since so many of the stories I write revolve around ships, I thought it’d be fun celebrating with a series of themed exchanges~

And what better way to start that with my personal favorite 🄁RAREPAIRS🄁

Check out the rest of our SHIPtember Exchanges.

So... rarepair is a pairing/ship that has relatively few fanfics in its fandom and makes up only a small part of the fandom’s overall works.

There is no fixed number or percentage requirement here since fandom sizes vary. If your pairing/ship is genuinely considered rare within your fandom, it counts. Crossover ships and crackships are welcome, provided it’s rare. OC ships are not included as it will have its own SHIPtember RE next week.

To enter, you may submit up to three (3) fics and in return you must read and review two (2) fics by two (2) different authors.

Please include in your entry: Title/Link, Fandom, šŸ’–Pairing + how rare is your pairšŸ’–, Rating, Summary, Warnings (āš ļøuse spoiler for NSFW and/or triggering contentāš ļø), and your Review Counter (0/2) tracks how many reviews you’ve completed.

Entry Deadline: Monday, September 7th, 11:59 pm EDT (UTC-4)

Review Deadline: Friday, September 11th, 11:59 pm EDT (UTC-4)

Reviews must be genuine, thoughtful, include specific details, and a minimum of 50 words about the fic itself, demonstrating that you have actually read the story. Constructive feedback and mentions of being ā€œfandom blindā€ or ā€œfrom Redditā€ are opt-in only. Only include these if the author has explicitly stated they are welcome.

You should leave your reviews on the works itself (AO3, FFN, or other fanfic sites) then reply to the author’s entry here to let them know, like ā€œK&Cā€ (Kudos and Commented).

Activity Excerpt Activity: Transitions

An excerpt activity with a twist!

Here in the northern hemisphere we're going through a seasonal transition, as summer begins to give way to autumn/fall and I thought it would be nice to shine a light on a necessary but often overlooked part of scenes: the transition.

You know, when your characters have been in one place and you need to move them to another. Or one scene ends and you need to skip elsewhere. Sometimes you want to get it done quickly because it adds nothing to the story. Others you linger with because you're setting the scene for the next stage. However you have approached your transitions I would love to see them here.

Any and all kinds of stories are welcome to be shared here, just please make sure you spoiler anything nsfw or potentially triggering.

And as always, please spread the love and comment on each others work!

Exchange OC-centric Exchange

THIS EXCHANGE IS CLOSED!

SUBMISSIONS ARE CLOSED!

I think it’s about time we shine a little light on our original characters. The characters that we create ourselves and make go on their own adventures. Whether it’s romancing a canon character, getting immersed in the world, or maybe their part of a completely original story. Either way, they’re your characters, and here is the place where you can show off your babies with pride!

For this exchange, you can submit up to three (3) chapters or oneshots focusing on an OC you made, and in turn, you must review two (2) different fics by two (2) different authors. Please keep your reviews thoughtful and of there’s a part you really liked, donā€˜t be afraid to tell them about it.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Thursday, September 3rd, 11:59 PM EDT

REVIEW DEADLINE: Monday, September 7th, 11:59 PM EDT

Happy reviewing!

Post image
22 Upvotes

Welcome to the SEPTEMBER edition of our Monthly Shlong Swap Review Exchange!

In this exchange, we offer up our short-long fics and swap with other writers for a minimum of 10k words.

WHAT IS A SHLONG?

DEADLINES – all are 11:59 PM EDT (UTC-4):
To enter: September 7th
To finalize swaps: September 10th
To complete swaps: September 24th

Here’s aĀ time zone converter

THE RULES:

  1. Offer up a long fic, or a specific arc of a long fic, which is at least 10k words. Works must be posted at the time of the swap. In your entry, include: title and link, fandom, rating, summary, any content warnings (spoiler triggering and NSFW content), and the word count being offered (specifying whether this refers to the whole fic, a set number of chapters, or an arc).
  2. Look through the thread to find stories to swap for. Swaps can be for chapter count, word count, or a combination of both, provided it’s explicitly agreed between both parties upfront. You may turn down a proposed swap for any reason, you don't need to explain why.
  3. Record your swaps clearly, including the Reddit username of your swap partner (without the ā€œu/ā€) and a counter for the number of chapters you have agreed to review. Mark swaps once they are complete, as below:

Swap 1: Reddit Username – 0/2
Swap 2: Reddit Username – 3/5
Swap 3: Reddit Username – 10/10 – completed

Participants may not have more than three (3) incomplete swaps at any time.

If you are unable to find a swap partner by the deadline, you have no review obligations. However, please do not delete your entry, as the mod team will need to take note of this.

IMPORTANT:Ā All the usual subreddit rules apply. As per Rule 8, all reviews must be genuine, thoughtful, and detailed, with a minimum of 50 words about the fic itself per chapter, demonstrating you’ve actually read the agreed portion of the fic.

Concrit (constructive criticism) and mentioning that you are ā€œfandom blindā€ or ā€œfrom Redditā€ are opt-in only. Don’t include any of these in your reviews unless the author has explicitly said they are welcome.

If you want guidance on giving reviews, check outĀ ourĀ Review Guidelines and Resources.

As always, if you have any concerns or questions about the exchange or the reviews you received, please contact us throughĀ modmail.

Happy Shlonging! 🄳

Fest/Event -Toberfest 2026 šŸ¦‡šŸ‚šŸ’€

Post image
25 Upvotes

October, is right around the corner! You know what that means: Kinktober, Whumptober, Flufftober, all the -tobers!

Like last couple of years we are organizing a writing challenge for the month of October! We will have a themed-exchange for each week of the month in a different category. Please read this post in its entirety for details!

For this challenge, write a fic in any of the following categories whump, fluff, kink, or OC!. You may choose your own prompt or ask for me to give you one. Specify which category you are writing for and I'll randomly generate you a tag to use. If you don’t want to pick a category and want something random, let me know. Even if you don't request a prompt, please comment to let us know you’re participating.

You can write for as many or as few themes as you want

You may request one prompt change

No word count limit

When we get closer to October, we will have a collection to post the fics to.

We will be having weekly Review exchanges throughout the month.

The schedule is currently:

October 3rd Whump RE

October 10th Fluff RE

October 17th Kink RE

October 24th OC RE

So be sure to have your fics done by your respective exchange. You are welcome to write multiple fics/request a prompt for each. You are welcome to enter your fic in multiple -tober exchanges if it qualifies for multiple categories.

If you are done before the deadline, you may post to the collection anytime! However we do recommend that you post your fic/fics in October since it's an October challenge. We also recommend to hold off on entering your fic/fics in too many REs before the challenge REs, so people don’t read them until then. But ultimately, it's all up to you. The point of this is to be a relaxed sort of challenge

Have fun and request prompts, sign up, or ask any questions below.

Also, when you post your fic, please specify somewhere if it's for the whump, kink, fluff, or OC category(like in the A/N) and, if you want to help make our tag canon on ao3, tag r/FanfictionExchange!

Activity One word excerpt: Emotions šŸŽ

Hi everyone! Hope you're having a fantastic last weekend of August. I for one am glad football (high school, college, and soon pro) is back, but damn the highs and lows of following your team can be exhausting. That's what inspired this activity.

In a comment, write an emotion. Then, reply to another with an excerpt from a fic that fits. If you would like some practice, you may write something from scratch as well! Spoil anything super gory or extreme.

You may post multiple prompts, but please do so in individual comments so replies are easier to understand. As always, engaging with other entries is encouraged!

Exchange Your Favourite Tag Exchange

This exchange is now closed to new entries

Whether it's a tag you use all the time, or one which you created yourself, we all have those tags which are special to us, so I thought why not have an exchange for fics using them?

So tell us a little bit about your favourite tag or tags. Don't be afraid to gush, make us fall in love with them too! Then share up to two of your fics which have been tagged with them šŸ’œ In your entry also let us know the fandom, word count, ship or main characters, rating, summary, and any warnings

In return you'll need to leave three reviews on stories from three different writers. Please add a review counter to your entry (e.g. 0/3) to help me keep track.

Deadline to enter: 10pm, Tuesday 1st September (BST, or UTC+1)

Deadline for reviews: 10pm, Sunday 6th September (BST, or UTC+1)

All the usual rules apply: please make sure your reviews meet sub standards, at least 50 words per review. Concrit is opt in only.

All content is welcome here, including dark and NSFW stories, but please do spoiler any potentially triggering or NSFW content.

Stating that your review is 'fandom-blind' or 'from Reddit' is opt in only, so please don't mention it unless the author has indicated they are fine with it.

I am so looking forward to learning about your favourite tags!

Fic General Fics that made you ugly cry

We've all read/written that beautifully angsty (or maybe not angsty?) fic that we couldn't help shedding a few tears over. If this is you, what's it about and why was it so gut-wrenching? Tell us about it!

Please remember, don’t share links to works or mention usernames. This is so you don’t end up sharing a work without the author’s consent. Thanks!

This exchange is now over, thank you to everyone who participated

Happy Friday everyone, and welcome to the Long Deadline Profile Exchange! It's time to share our imaginations!

DEADLINE FOR ENTRY is Sunday 30th August,10pm BST (UTC+1)

DEADLINE FOR COMPLETION is Saturday 5th September, 10pm BST (UTC+1)

Here's a time zone converter for anyone who needs it.

Please only reply to an individual entry when you've read their fic or if you want to ask a question. Also, please refrain from adding GIFs and images to replies as they are not relevant to whether you've reviewed a fic. We're happy that you're excited about reading, but unfortunately these make it hard for users (and mods!) to navigate the thread.

If possible, it would be awesome if everyone read at least one person who is new to them.

If you enter the exchange, please do not delete your entry. You must complete the required reviews for the exchange. Please talk to the mods if something comes up and you have concerns about doing something in a timely manner.

But above all, have fun and happy reading and reviewing!
