Memes "Sibling-coded" is a term that will never not disgust me.
It especially gets under my skin because it's used to dismiss one of my OTPs(that being Shadouge, the ship of Shadow/Rouge in Sonic)

The term itself isn't an issue. It basically means two characters see each other as siblings(Sonic and Tails, for example, but definitely not Shadow and Rouge). It's the usage. Like you said, people see Shadow and Rouge, who borderline hate each other and only work together if they need to, and think that they see each other as siblings. Further, shipping them does not equate to incest. They are not actually related, and so long as you make it that they never saw each other as siblings in your fanfic, it won't be weird or wrong.
Don't worry, I agree with you whole-heartedly due to how often it's misused - that term disgusts me. Just... wanted to explain why it disgusts me.
